When you ask yourself what Yuna is going to do now that she blew up the religion that was her livelihood at the end of FFX, becoming a popstar seems to make a lot of sense. I mean what other profession would someone with such little intelligence but who also saved the world be suited for?

True, although considering her personality in FFX becoming a popstar seems like a pretty weird career choice. Really I think if she were just a mercenary it would not only make much more sense but it would make the game infinitely better.

Syphon Filter Even Rikku becoming a popstar would be a pretty long shot. Her Al Bhed home was destroyed in FFX and she had pretty strong beliefs regarding the Al Bhed ways, so she'd probably either spend her time rebuilding her home or continuing to change society's perceptions of the Al Bhed people/culture.

I'm not kidding. One of the professors at MIT's game lab says this is his favorite game of all time. When I asked why, he got VERY offended at the implication that it wasn't a good game. His argument is that it's a "character study" of Yuna, and if you don't like that you won't like the game.

I mean maybe. It's a bit interesting she had to undergo an entire personality overhaul so she could become the protagonist (although you could make the argument that she is the protagonist of FFX and that Tidus is the just the view point character like Nick in The Great Gatsby). But even then she's still not that interesting a character.

Shit must make sense in context, you can't just go make shit up without explaining it. Then it's not fantasy, it's just random shit. Fantasy isn't real, but it has it's own rules that it has to follow. Also plot holes are not part of fantasy. That's like Tolkien never explaining why Sauron needs the ring or why it needs to be destroyed in mount doom and just going "ye this ring, go dump it in the volcano because reasons, ciao"

@Level_1_Frog10 жыл бұрын
I love this game. Now, hang on a minute- I'll tell you why. I love this game for two reasons: The first is that this was the first RPG my girlfriend ever played, and was a great introduction for her into the RPG genre. It's funny, it's upbeat, in depth but not challenging on the surface (except the optional bosses, holy shit they're hard), and has an all star cast of female personalities. Since then she's branched into "better" RPGs, like the other Final Fantasy games, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age and Mass Effect, but it all started from this game, and for that I am grateful. And the second reason? Well, I think the gameplay is fantastic. Replace the "Dress Spheres" with simple classes. Instead of the J-Pop cheese and girly stuff, insert the theme of a different Final Fantasy, one that you really liked, let's say Final Fantasy VI. Now, isn't that battle system really cool? Swapping classes in the middle of battle, combining the abilities of various classes and customising your party in a surprisingly deep way? I found it just the right balance of familiar and new, and overall really enjoyed the combat segments of the game. It gets a lot of flack, deservedly, maybe, and I didn't like the game overall. But I still appreciate what is good about it.

I think it's a bad execution from the writer's part. Yuna does show kindness, compassion, and maturity she has logically gained from losing Tidus from FFX, but becoming a treasure hunter kind of paints her as a person putting up facade and trying to run away from problems (similar to FFVI's Locke Cole). Sadly, the whole j-pop idol and teen language things make her seem like an overly childish person rather than a emotionally traumatized war heroine. It doesn't help that after Sin, she wanted to be more like Rikku, of all people.
@BetamaxMaan7 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with the bad execution part. The Pop-star Idea did have a strong a Cutscene in the late moments of the game. But had they showed in FF10 that Yuna had a sort of songstress like voice during some of the calm moments with in the game like Garnet had in FF9, it would've worked upon leading up to to this sequel. Still, that's not say it doesn't work, since then gave Yuna a Songtress Sphere to help sort that part of her character out along with Lenne. I think the game's over cheery, bubbly Pop-Girl tone, is what kinda sours most of the game. Still, there are some people who invest in the Vocaloid games. I just don't see the appeal here, nor do i think it suits the Final Fantasy series to present the Sequel to FF10 in an over Feminine way as it did. I have no problem with women, but even girls would stray from this game since it tries to promote Strong female characters while still trying to appeal to a med demographic with some of the Sexualized Costumes. You Can't have your Cheesecake and Eat it man! As for Rikku, I like her as being the sister/cousin that gave emotional support to Yuna, and her Growing up and helping Yuna grow and become more womanly than before helps to that degree. But she in FF10-2, she's pretty much the main centerpiece in this game (as far as eye-candy goes). Hell, her costume(s) are possibly the highest rated pieces of Fan-wank material. I'm not angry, but it hurts her image and the positive aspects of her character. No lady in their right mind would wear a yellow Bikini, Short skirt, and ribbon arm sleeves to a fight! Not unless they want their top to get damaged and fall off in the middle of a monster battle.

I don't agree with this review whatsoever. Final Fantasy isn't a dull and predictable series in any way, and he doesn't even offer evidence to support that claim. The plots for I through V may have been cliche/classic, but VI and on have been generally well-done based on the opinion of the entire fan-base, which numbers into the millions. FFX was linear, but I enjoyed the INNOVATIVE touch they put into the series, they strayed away from classic FF. This review places emphasis on innovation and straying from the series. Yet he fails to recognize how different X was from the rest. On that note, I'm not even sure if he described the protagonist (Tidus) correctly. Calling him a whiney bitch, also claiming that all FF protagonists have been dark, emo, and generally on the low-end of the personality meter. While Tidus was actually generally upbeat and human, he wasn't afraid to laugh, talk to people, and his only downfall was his situation, being he was upset considering he was plunged 1,000 years into the future AND only showed it a few times, not letting it disturb his new friends too often. I agree with his review on the FFX-2 portion, it was a cool idea gone bad with fan services. FFX-2 didn't need to exist, lol. It could have been a game in the same universe as FFX with a different story/new characters. Not Yuna gone through incredible transformation that probably isn't possible.

I think he means the lack of a world map, like in every Final Fantasy up to IX you could explore the entire world and go manually to every city/cave/castle, now you just select from a list where you want to go and the game automatically takes you there (haven't played XII so i don't know if it's like that or not), personally i think it's more convenient like this (auto-travel), i'm not opposed to open world exploration, but it would be nice to have an option to just go somewhere instantly whitout having to find it in the world map, i played FFV at least 4 times and i still have trouble finding certain places sometimes in the third world
@BraxBox9 жыл бұрын
True. XII isn't open-world either. You use crystals(save points) to travel from place to place. There isn't even an airship in the game. But yea I see what you're saying with the FFs before FFX.
@Uroboro_Djinn9 жыл бұрын
B.K. Actually FF 12 could be considered open world since every area connects with every other. It's not like you travel to different planets for each dungeon. You can go from point A to point B on foot and these 2 could be on 2 completely different sides of the world. Just check the world map. Everything's interconnected. It's just that the PS2 wasn't powerful to render all that in one go. Hence why it breaks up into subcategories.

SwordOfXealos "Abysmal writng and character development" care to give an example? All this guy does is talk about "plot holes". All of which aren't legitimate as things he talks about are explained in the game. As for character development this whole game also is about yuna developing her personality and changing, now that spira is saved. Paine opening up about her past, letting people in and others mostly through side missions spheres etc. Besides that the battle system imo is one of the best in the series and ridiculously fun (This is a rpg after all), which is like the whole theme of this game to begin with. Yea sorry "I liked the game" guess I can't comment on things I like from now on

Jack Mcslay Are you talking about yuna? Yuna is not that different in X-2. I think people see the starting scene and that's why everyone says this. The opening pop concert isn't yuna which is explained after the first 10 minutes. The real Yuna is still the same compassioniate, generous person she was in X, still going out of her way to put others first. Yuna does develop however through-out the story and not in a negative way. It's more about her learning to not worry too much about what others think of her and hesitating alot less. Just judging her on what she wears (her default dressphere) is such a close minded viewpoint.

A concert in Spira is kind of a big deal, Spoony. First off, the game is set two years after X, so Yevon's teachings no longer hold sway. You may hate it, but the X duology is my favorite in the Final Fantasy series.

I know that a person's beliefs can change over time and finding out your god doesn't exist would be a pretty big blow to those beliefs, but people whose lives revolved around Yevon (especially Yuna, Wakka, other summoners, etc) would have A LOT of trouble finding happiness and contentment in the world if their entire belief system and reason for existing had been shattered into pieces. Spira would have been a mess after the fall of Yevon. I doubt it would have been the happy-go-lucky place that was shown in FFX-2. There would have been a lot of despair, depression, and confusion in Spira over discovering that everything they believed about creation, god, and the planet was false.
@Lobomaru029 жыл бұрын
No. They really would have been that happy. After a thousand years, Sin is gone, and it will never return. They can finally live without fear of it destroying what they endeavor to build.
@DevilfishFace9 жыл бұрын
Amy Santiago I always questioned why Yuna and the other summoners aren't still doing their other job, 'sending'. That magic ritual which insures the spirits of the dead make it to the afterlife instead of becoming fiends. People still would be dying miserably here and there of non-Sin related causes and turning into monsters but J-pop is more important to Yuna.
@Lobomaru029 жыл бұрын
First off, that was Leblanc, not Yuna. Second, there are likely hundreds of people that know how to do the sending. According to the audio book included with the HD Remaster, people can receive training to perform the ritual.

X and X-2 got me introduced to final fantasy which in turn introduced me to KH. I love these games as in I love these more than any other final fantasy that I've played. X-2 has over 200 hours on PS2. but this is the funniest review I have watched in a while.

I admit to playing this game and FFX but I have mixed feelings. The "story" for X-2 was very confusing and I give thanks to Spoony for clarifying many things I never completely thought about, realized, or cared about. The battle mechanism was by far the best part to me. Mix and match dress spheres for various power-ups, lots of abilities to choose from, and pretty fast paced battles. The dress up sequences did get annoying after a while so I was glad to have the short sequence option. "Hey Tonberry excuse us for a few seconds while we change into skimpier costumes to beat your @$$!" But the thing that bothered me the most about the battles was where you go into battle against an omnipotent enemy or "weapon" maybe similar to Nemesis from FFX (disregarding the piss poorness of Ultima and Omega Weapons from FFX ...cough pansies cough) and Riku as a thief, is wearing bright colored beach bikini/thong clothing with barbie doll accessories and a pair of knives????!!!! I thought thieves were supposed to be stealthy and not try to get caught ya know...STEALING! Granted they aren't completely ninjas but dressing up as a bright banana makes it harder to miss you than darker blue colors like Locke's from FF6. I bet even he could figure out what KEY MON really is faster than these bimbos. I know other characters haven't always worn the most battle ready clothes (Selphie, Tifa, mage outfits) but at least they were covering something (yeah fan service probably similar to Sailor Moon and their mini skirts). Still, here it's like I'm going into danger like I am dressed for a day of sun tanning on the beach. You'd need an SPF over 9000 (yes I went there) or preferably 9999 to protect yourself from a Supernova attack.

And, quoted from Nojima: "Yes, actually. After Shinra quit the Gullwings he got enormous financial backing from Rin and went to the Farplane to start extracting the Mako energy used by the Vegnagun. But the system for utilizing this energy could not be completed in his generation, so far in the future when space travel was possible, the Shinra Company was founded on another planet… or something like that. That would be a thousand years or so from this game’s story."

I love both Final Fantasy X games but this review had me in stitches, Honestly though you wouldn't think that FFX-2 would be the way it is after playing the prequel that's for sure. Although I damn near hated nearly every mini game in the first game, I absolutely love sphere break =D.Besides the slutty outfits, sailor moon like transformations and other problems the one thing that drove me insane was how they watched spheres. Seriously how the hell do they watch them? They just hold them up and that's it. Like no holograms are nothing. How is that possible?

*I think I finally got it* These spheres hold emotions and memories/personalities That kid developed a way to harness those memories by turning them into a programm for his dress thingy Since then they nonchalantly refer to the spheres as dress spheres becaused they can be harnessed that way

Every story is inconsitent every story has plot holes shakesperes hamlet and romeo & juliet have plot holes stop bitching about it people anyways i love 10 and 10-2 people cry too much about the past get over it stop comparing everything to the 90's if final fantasy still used that play style everyone would say their repetive and that it needs to become more modern just like what people say with zelda and mario i like final fantasy 13 and its sequels because i judeged them as standalone games instead of bitching on how its not like final fantasy 6 or 7
@PrinceRPG11 жыл бұрын
I dont think you were their when this game came out people were crying saying its nothing like the games its not like 10 or 7 or 6 when most Final fantady games are difderent from each other in some way im just annoyed of how no one sees this game as a standalone wich each final fantasy is since most games dont tie together yes I know this game at time seems like your watching a movie but if you have fun with it why complain

Basically, the name for FF7's planet was retconned in North America, but has never really changed in Japan. There it's just 'the Planet' still. But many fans have taken up to calling it Gaia thanks to official Square Enix products given away in NA. FF7 is tied in by Shinra. Ultimanias don't shed too much light, but one's official statement is that Shinra the kid couldn't make Mako work in Spira, so his lineage went to [The Planet]/[Gaia].

You are aware, aren't you, that that's not really Yuna dancing and singing in the beginning (hence the ? and the later Yuna intro (without the ?))
@killer-ws3lf10 жыл бұрын
True, however not-Yuna's dance at the beginning doesn't rouse any suspicion from anyone who doesn't already know she's an impostor, so I think it would be fair to assume that singing and dancing the way she did in the intro is common practice for her off-screen.

There is indeed a connection between 10 and 7, confirmed by Nojima. Shinra, funded by Rin, eventually develops a way to use Vegnagun to siphon energy from the Farplane which becomes the predecessor of Mako energy. The process is perfected in generations after him and his descendants put the research in effect on a new planet with a time-leap of a millennium between both games... *slowly crawls away unnoticed, feeling like the only one who actually likes 10 and 10-2*

I really wish they would find a different name for these kind of games instead of role-playing games. I'm not really a video game person and when I hear role-playing game I think Dungeons & Dragons and pencil and paper games like that (yeah I'm old) and I get tired of talking to younger people and having them THINK I'm talking about video role-playing games when I'm talking about pencil and paper role playing games. Just a pet peeve. :)

I agree that games like FFX2 shouldn't be referred to as an RPG because you're not exactly playing in a role that anyone wants to assume, certainly not male gamers, much less female gamers... Even the girliest, most effeminate girl gamers I know hated FFX2... Though I don't really know what else you would call western RPGs other than RPGs. I guess it makes sense that games like the Final Fantasy series be titled JRPGs.
@LibraGamesUnlimited10 жыл бұрын
the bonesauce I don't know I just hate having to explain to someone about pencil and paper RPGs and that kind.
@JanoyCresvaZero10 жыл бұрын
Chris McWilliams Chances are, if a person doesn't already know what P&P RPGs are, they probably don't really understand what a role-playing game is. Of course, if you want to get more people into it, you need to explain it to them, otherwise nobody will ever get into them.
@Hearowsify11 жыл бұрын
Also, I may disagree with plenty your points Spoony, but your delivery makes me laugh and you make fair points. You might never convince me that FFX is a crap game, but you will amuse me at least while telling me why, I absolutely recognize it's drawbacks especially after the advent of games like Morrowind and Fallout where NOTHING is linear and it's just such a rich environment, but the FF stories are all special to me, and I played the game for the stories.

Taken from the Wiki: "Gaia, known more commonly as The Planet [...], is the name of the world in which Compilation of Final Fantasy VII takes place." Taken from a website that translated the Ultimania: In August 2012, the official North American Square Enix website published a Series Biography [...] In FFVII’s entry from the article, its world is again dubbed “Gaia.” But also (from same source) All facts and research considered, it is deemed very unlikely that FFVII’s planet has a canon name.

2nd thing it did: Took away ALL the characters I enjoyed playing with. Yuna's summons (makes sense though so that was okay) Wakka was there, even though Lulu was pregnant. Why not make him playable? He settles down? Ok. Fine. Kihmari became a leader, ok makes sense. He's a hero who helped liberate Spira. Auron ascended to the farplane. Yeah makes sense too. Tidus... mysteriously was a dream and disappeared. What's the moral of the story at the end? Dreams do come true?

I figured you were saying that he changed his opinion of the video as you go through the video (which would make my opinion of his review seem stupid), and in which case, he'd say that he DID like FFX in comparison to FFX-2. So to make sure that I didn't miss anything, I watched it. Answer your question?

If Spoony was a furry he might remember a mini series of comics (that got it's own card game) called Tank Vixens (AKA- Lesbian Foxes in Hover Tanks). This mostly T/A pinnup of anthro fox girls comic had a very similar premise in that it was not their tanks and guns but their "uniforms" that were the strongest weapon in the galaxy able to defeat their rat man enemies without a fight with the power of sex appeal. They only met their match when their enemy promoted their own sexy rat chick to a Colonel who was immune to their wardrobe changing tactics. The story centers around a new recruit named Firen who joined wanting to be a good soldier and is told be her Captain and comrades that the real power is in what she wears to distract and demoralize the enemy. It was a stupid but fun comic.

This is true. A LOT of the tropes that have come to define FF started with 7. The term "open minded" was there for some degree of satire. By that, I had meant, open, yes, but RELATIVE to his/her own mind. The loaded question he had provided gave the grounds that VI was INHERENTLY bad, that that you are actually different if you DID like it. The bit about "can you start debating with me again xD", well, for that, just look at the recent comments on the video :|
