Bell rings early, interesting. Also don't understand why they have red lights if the gates are just gonna close at the same time anyway. But nice video!

Manual crossing I think. The ring is the announce to the guard.

this is not a crossing bell, iirc this is a repeating bell of a railway phone, it's usually placed outside the crossing guard post to alert him that someone is calling if he is doing something outside the building where the phone is located. in this case I guess the next station was calling him about the coming train. about those lights, signals that turn on when the gates go down are allowed only on crossings that are manually operated from a guard post located right on the crossing, where the operator can see the whole crossing, so he doesnt accidentally trap any cars while closing it i guess the flashing signals and gate lights make the closed crossing ahead easier to notice to the drivers, they probably were more important in times when the gate arms weren't covered in reflective foil and were harder to notice at night
