2:25 My parents couldn't afford to buy me a ds when I was a kid, we were in debt and had very little money for entertainment. So, a few months before Christmas, they saved up and asked other people in our family to help pitch in just so they could buy me and my brother a nintendo ds. I remember the tears in their eyes watching me play with it with such gratitude and wonder, it made their efforts all worth it. Spore creatures was the first game I played that day and played over and over for years. It brought me a few friends who also enjoyed weird quirky creature games and had the game themselves. This first track from the game still represents my parents' willingness to go beyond limits to show me their love, a lesson I never thought I'd learn from a game, but one I'll never forget. I wish this game was given more credit than it receives for inspiring creativity and inspiration in so many kids when it came out.

When I was composing these soundtracks, there was no KZbin yet and the only feedback I got from players was the occasional GameFAQs review. I never really knew of any stories like yours, where something I worked on made such an impact on someone. It's really nice to hear this sort of thing now. Thank you for your very thoughtful comment.

I don't know if they have official names in-game, so I just gave them generic names. I'm kind of overtly passionate about this game for nostalgia reasons, lmao. I absolutely love the soundtrack, and finding the remastered OST whilst scouring the depths of KZbin was like finding the Holy Grail while dumpster diving. Hope this helped!

I really must thank you for your work on this soundtrack, just like with many others I like to think that this little DS title influenced my childhood. One of my favourite parts about it is the balance between contrasting themes of harmony vs aggression - that I think is beautifully reflected in many of these tracks; such as the harps in Baysee's and Flubit's themes, or better yet the piano notes in the Miniboss theme. The harsh, droning forefront instrumentation gets contrasted with small, delicate sounds, giving yet another layer to the setting. Against feelings of anger, terror, hopelessness - is it hope? tragedy? wonder? Anywho, that's my gush over, you don't need me to convince you that this soundtrack is fantastic, and I'll be listening in to future musical endeavours with keen ears!

Hey! The comments section is probably a terrible place to bring this up and ask and stuff, but let me start with some background. I first played this game around release as a kid and enjoyed the game a lot and I would easily say that the soundtrack really complemented the atmosphere. I have tons of nostalgia for this game and its music. Skip very far forward to about two years ago, I have had a piqued interest in sound design and remastering tracks and stuff. I started off trying to re-write music by ear using many different soundfonts for the fun of it, just to hear what X sounded like with Y's instruments and the like. Later on I found a program that allowed me to extract the music from NDS games called VGMTrans, and had tons of fun playing around with the extracted music from games like New Super Mario, Pokemon, and the Dragon Quest games when at some point I remembered this game's soundtrack and decided "Hey, why not try and remaster a couple of songs from this?". Only issue is, whenever I try to load the rom for this game into the program, it would lock up and crash, which was pretty frustrating to me considering that every other game I tried worked just fine, without any issues or bugs (Except maybe Dragon Quest IX). So for the next few months up to when I'm writing this, I've been peppering my attempts at extracting the music from this game, and I got extremely close. I managed to extract a few SSEQ files from the cart, including one of the prototype tracks. Disappointingly though, I found that the playlist was vastly incomplete, with only a few overworld themes available to me, and the battle and dance themes. I don't really have a grasp on hex editors either, to trying to read the bin files to try and gather any info or hidden files wasn't happening, I'm a huge noob when it comes to romhacking and the like. I know I really don't have much of a track record online to support my interests in remastering music (it's more just a hobby if anything to me), and I doubt you'd give it to some random guy on the internet but it never hurts to ask. If by any chance you still have the source files, or anything that would assist in the creation of a remastered soundtrack for this game, would you be willing to provide them? If not, I understand, and I'd be completely fine with that answer. I would at the very least be grateful that you even read my story and heard me out. At the very least, it would provide me a little bit of closure on this little project I've had. Thanks, and have a great day.
@IanStocker4 жыл бұрын
This OST was special in that I did a lot of custom programming for the music, way beyond sequence playback. We had individual track control and segment switching among other "adaptive music" gimmicks. So it's not surprising that the sequences can't be ripped directly, at least very easily. The file format and audio chip logic is still under NDA from Nintendo, so I can't really give a tour of it, but I might be able to show how I authored the source files at some point.

Hearing this old game's soundtrack in HD original track form is so insanely awesome ;u; Not only are all of these songs incredibly nostalgic for me(having practically grown up playing Spore Creatures), but it's really wonderful music even without that context! The music for each area and event really makes me feel like I'm in that place, bringing up imagery of parched desserts, misty jungles, snowy mountaintops, and shifting seasons to match the environment. Wonder B/the theme music for Baysee is def one of my favorites; the music alone prompted me to make Baysee my adoptive homeplanet as kid! (Lost B is also really nice, as are Seedling B, Wonder A, Exploration A, Combat Encounter, & Exploration C, to name just a few!) Hearing it for the first time, the prototype song Adventure Progression is really nice, too!

I haven't done any gigs except for some smaller stuff for friends since Monster Tale. And indie development has occupied me full time for the last two years, so I haven't written anything recently... would be great to get back to it, I definitely miss it.

Little clapping hands/credits actually starts at 25:48 . Just saying because it was wrongly timestamped ^__^

my first video game I ever owned. just replayed it for the first time in a while, and it was not bad. this ost is so underrated tho, love it so much, especially baysee and noodlin's themes

You can buy one at ebgames, they're not that expensive

I'd honestly look on Ebay. I would say emulate it but most emulators I've used can't even run it properly (lag, stuttering, errors).

Left a comment three years ago, leaving another one now because this OST still lives rent free in my head 16 yea- wait, it’s been… 16 years?!?! 😭

Dude this game means so much to me- All my life, I've been set on creating. And that drive for creation first was born from me making monsters left and right as a little, hyper fixated kid, drawing all sorts of pokemon-like monster creatures. I think this was what started it all; what turned me on to creation rather than just spectating.

I had gotten this game- along with Lego starwars the complete saga for my DSI lite for christmas of 2008. Any game that would allow you to create monsters in any capacity made me lose my mind (even today.) One of the most prominent memories I had with this game was when I had actually met another kid who had this game at an airport while my mom and I were waiting for a flight. The kid told me that he had hacked creature parts and was willing to share them with me, we spent the next hour trading and building creatures. Little did either of us realize at the time, the parts came with warning "do not localize." The save file became softlocked- but I used it explicitly to make creatures with the hacked parts. I still have that save file.

At least someone else made Spore Creatures DS music instead of one person.

I might be wrong here. But I believe that the Planet Flubit music also played in a Baysee cutscene. And that I found a bug where this music would play the entire time in Baysee instead of the normal music.

Hit straight with nostalgia! Amazing job on the music for this game!

I swear I can hear the guitar riff from Baysee in a Sims 4 song, anyone know if they reuse it from this game?

This game made my childhood. I still have the same copy I've had for 12 years. I'm kind of curious, do you have a place where people can download/buy the MIDI files/sequences? I'd like to try my hand at remixes and covers if that's possible! I'm not sure how the copyright laws work, so I understand if you can't provide the files.

To date I haven't released any source music files, but at some point it might happen. The closest I've come is posting recordings of the tracker files to this channel.

ohhhhhhh the NOSTALGIA. I can't remember what I played first, spore creatures or spore itself. But man, I could listen to the music all night. I'd leave the DS on and just let it play
