Many, many years ago, most metro Atlanta agencies had no chase policy, meaning they could pursue for anything, even an expired tag. Ultimately, the shift supervisor had final say on whether a pursuit would continue based on several factors. The officers' experience, composure during the pursuit, the time of day, traffic conditions, weather, and the nature of the crime. In this current day, most metro Atlanta agencies have a strict chase policy in which officers can only pursue for crimes such as homicide, armed robbery, kidnapping, agg. assaults (violent felonies). That's why you rarely see large agencies like Dekalb, Gwinnett, APD, Cobb in pursuits. GSP is a different animal. They can and will chase for ANYTHING. You get stopped by Dekalb for speeding and flee. They won't pursue. Don't try that with GSP and now Clayton has gotten on GSP's level.
