What you said about the sport pilot license being a standalone license is simply not true, once you get your sport license you can add on these categories: Weight-Shift (Trike) Powered Parachute Glider Balloon Seaplane Airplane (if you didn't get your initial license in this category) To actually add these categories to your license is pretty simple, you just need two CFIs, one to teach you how to fly the craft, the second to give you a proficiency check and if they find you able, they'll endorse you in that category You can take this a step further and actually be able to teach sport pilots/student pilots with the Sport CFI rating (CFIS) and even get paid without a commercial/instrument rating, just need a sport pilot or higher license. To obtain this rating it is just like a regular CFI rating, a sign off to take the fundamentals of instruction and written/practical test, and you can still use the drivers license medical if you are a sport pilot exercising the rating EDIT: I realize I forgot to mention that for the CFIS rating, you need at least 150 hours to get the rating.

Is there a limit to how far from your originating airport you can fly?
@ThrustFlight
@ThrustFlight 7 жыл бұрын
The only limit to how far you can fly is the aircraft's range. The maximal total range is the maximum distance an aircraft can fly between takeoff and landing, as limited by fuel capacity in powered aircraft, or cross-country speed and environmental conditions in unpowered aircraft. The range varies from aircraft to aircraft. Other than that, the only limiting factor would be your bladder!

While on the subject of pilots licenses, I've heard that many of the smaller personal aircraft, such as an LSA, Ultralight, or an Experimental class aircraft that a pilot doesn't need to obtain a pilots license. Can someone answer this question; what is the maximum size/weight limit of an aircraft as mentioned above before you have to obtain a pilot license?
@ThrustFlight
@ThrustFlight 7 жыл бұрын
No license is required to fly a Part 103 legal ultralight vehicle. However, flying is something that is not to be taken lightly. Just because ultralights "look simple" does not mean they can be flown without training. US Sport Aircraft strongly advises people to obtain instruction from a certified ultralight flight instructor. Even people who are already general aviation pilots, for example, always benefit from ultralight instruction. Ultralights have their own characteristics that most general aviation pilots aren't accustomed to. If you have no previous flight experience, the number of hours required for ultralight instruction is considerably less than what is needed to obtain a private pilot license. Most people require between 10 and 20 hours of ultralight instruction. According to FAR Part 103, an ultralight vehicle is a vehicle that: (a) Is used or intended to be used for manned operation in the air by a single occupant; (b) Is used or intended to be used for recreation or sport purposes only; (c) Does not have any U.S. or foreign airworthiness certificate; and (d) If unpowered, weighs less than 155 pounds; or (e) If powered: (1) Weighs less than 254 pounds empty weight, excluding floats and safety devices which are intended for deployment in a potentially catastrophic situation; (2) Has a fuel capacity not exceeding 5 U.S. gallons; (3) Is not capable of more than 55 knots calibrated airspeed at full power in level flight; and (4) Has a power-off stall speed which does not exceed 24 knots calibrated airspeed. More information can be found in the FAA's FAR Part 103 Thanks for watching!

US Sport Aircraft Thank you for your quick response. I've been watching many videos on all sorts of smaller aircraft, some of which are on planes that are for sale. In some of those ads the owner has mentioned that a pilot license is not needed. I was wondering why they didn't, but with your answer I understand why now. I'm in full support of flight training, I feel that it can substantially benefit the pilot.

When you get your Sport Pilot License and decide later down the road to get your Private pilot License what will be the length and cost of training?
@ThrustFlight
@ThrustFlight 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much 75876! What a great question. First of all if you don't have any pilot experience and you think you can pass a medical, we suggest you to go ahead and get your private license to start with instead of the sport (that is if you think you are going to upgrade to Private from Sport at a later date.) The reason we suggest this is because people that are new to aviation that don't have any experience will finish up their sport license with around the same amount of hours (and cost) as someone going for their private license. If, however, you do decide to start with sport and upgrade to private later, it will cost you around $1500-$2000 to upgrade. You will need refresher training from a CFI so that you can get signed off for the checkride, you will need another cross country, another written test (private), and of course a private pilot checkride. This all adds up which is why we say to just go for the private right out of the gate. Let us know if we can help with anything else!
@ThrustFlight
@ThrustFlight 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Angel! After you complete your training, your new private pilot certificate will allow you to fly with good weather anywhere-even outside United States airspace. Pilot's licenses are recognized by all ICAO member countries as long as the plane is registered in the country that issued the pilots license. GET OUT THERE AND EXPLORE!

Air Force JROTC (any JROTC) teaches you just some basics of military... mostly how to march. Has very little bearing on anything really, though you can get a certificate that lets you enlist at E3 instead of E1 paygrade. (How would I know this?) You can get to "play at" some of the training assorted military specialties would do... (nothing really hard...) some map reading, some HEAVILY supervised rappelling (maybe)... go on some interesting field trips to shoot the M4 (or whatever the currently used rifle is for basic marksmanship training) and get a look at the obstical course... Can be some fun. However some of the older students will think a lot more of their "rank" than its really worth. If the unit is large enough for a "Cadet Colonel"... he'll have the SAME certificate at the end as the guy who never gets past Cadet Recruit. I did Army JROTC, 3 years. got to supervise some Navy JROTC when they visited a Naval base I was assigned to in the Navy... knwn others who did the Air Force JROTC... all similar stories (some JROTC units have rifle ranges and competition rifle teams... not all.) See the movie "Major Payne" There's more reality to it than they planned on.

Hi Douglas! Thanks for your question. There are several routes to getting certified to fly that type of helicopter, but it is a different category and class so you won't be able to get your sport pilot certificate in an airplane then fly the Mosquito helicopter - at least not without additional training and certification. I would suggest getting in touch with a helicopter pilot school or similar company for specifics on light helicopter regulations as they would be able to answer your question more completely. Thanks for watching!

I have a private pilot license with a lapsed medical and no flying for 28 years. How many hours of training would it realistically take to safely fly a LSA? I'm told that I can use my private license, downgraded to LSA privileges with no medical. Is this correct?
@ThrustFlight
@ThrustFlight 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is correct! What we would do is start with a couple hours in an LSA to see how much work you need to get current (it all depends on how much rust you'll need to knock off, so to speak). Once you're current and comfortable you'll need to complete a biennial flight review, and you're good to go!
@mrwonk
@mrwonk 7 жыл бұрын
You should get a new medical; then call a local flight school for a flight review (previously BFR). Depending on how much you remember, you may need a few hours of instruction; but the good news it, it will count toward any future upgrades you may want to do later. Also, a good idea to review and brush up on as much as possible on the ground before you go. Self-brief the area and airport you will be taking off from. It makes a big difference.

@mrwonk
@mrwonk 7 жыл бұрын
It's never too late. If you are young enough, consider an Air Force career. A lot of bases have flying clubs where you can learn to fly dirt cheap. If you are older, save up and go for the sport license. You will also find, flight training costs vary greatly around the country. In California, you are looking at close to $225 per hour wet (with fuel), Florida by comparison is closer to $130 per hour for plane and instructor. Also, flight training from non-towered airports in smaller towns tends to be less expensive than towered airports in major cities.

Cane CPRewritten - Not everyone was born with the same situation or opportunities, so to "Hate" someone who wants to fly but financially cannot is pretty strong and frankly arrogant. To the OP, if you want to fly, try to find ways to get yourself close to the airport, and around pilots. Maybe consider a weekend job at the local flight school in exchange for an hours flight time each week. Having a CFI friend would help alot. There are some grants and scholarships as well as flight training loans you may want to explore as well. You can find used flight training course kits on ebay fairly cheap, and a sport license at the minimum 20 hours will run you around $3,000 for 20 hours lsa rental and 10 hours instructor if you pick stuff up quickly. It may take some time, but if you want it, you can find a way. See you in the sky !

@ThrustFlight 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Evan! Technically you could get your sport pilot certificate then get you private pilot certificate (or vice versa) but there would be no benefit of doing so, as the sport pilot certificate is essentially a limited version of the private pilot certificate. If you aren't sure which to go for, we always recommend that you go for your private, for many reasons. For example: -If you ever want to add additional ratings or certifications (instrument, commercial, multi-engine, etc.) you must have your private pilot certificate. The sport license is a stand-alone license. -The FAA requires a minimum of 20 hours to get your sport pilot certificate, but the national average for student pilots to earn it is closer to 65-70 hours... the same as the national average to get your private pilot certificate. In the end, you will end up paying around the same amount of time and money whether you go for your sport or private. -It can cost a lot more money to get your sport, then later get your private. Hopefully that answers your question! If you're having trouble deciding which is right for you, give Nathan a call at 972-735-9099 or email him at nathan@ussportaircraft.com and he'll be happy to help! Thanks for watching!

does color blindness falls under medical certificate requirements
@ThrustFlight
@ThrustFlight 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bur Bur! It would depend on your type of color blindness. There are many pilots flying out there with some sort of color blindness but have filled out a Statement of Demonstrated Ability which just states that their particular color blindness doesn't hinder their flying abilities. Before starting flight training we always recommend getting your medical first just in case. Thanks for watching!

You don't need to know til near the end of your training? 20 hours vs 40 hours? How wide is the is end of training window? Derp.
@ThrustFlight
@ThrustFlight 7 жыл бұрын
Hi apburner1! That's a great question. You do need a medical to get your private pilot certificate, but you don't need to get your medical until you solo. So you can begin training without knowing which certificate you want, but when it comes time to solo, that's when you'll either need to get your medical or go for your sport certificate. 20 and 40 hours are the FAA minimum requirements for the sport and private certificates, respectively, but the national average for getting either one of these certificates is 55-70 hours. The average student will solo around the same time whether going for the sport or private. Thanks for watching!

Hi Brandon! You're correct! In this video we use the term pilot “license” despite the fact that the correct term is “certificate.” This is because the average non-pilot might refer to getting their “pilot license” much like their “driver’s license.” It makes it a little easier to understand and maybe even a little bit less intimidating. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Rozardner Flying Bird Reality (do a google search)? It is a great exclusive guide for how to get pilot license minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my best friend Jordan finally got astronomical results with it.

Older folks who can't pass a medical, but want to fly. Think about it, earlier in life, they may not have the time and money; later, their health isn't good enough. This gives them the opportunity to live the dream.

people who don't want to spend an arm and a leg in order to fly. The license, aircraft and cost of flying are much lower.

Hello my name is Rahil and I am a young 18 years old lad living in the united kingdom in London. now I have 2 important question I am also considering to become a pilot not sure which one exactly yet if I go for the sport pilot license should I apply for a physics course in my college, in other words before applying for a flight school do I have to have physics degree beforehand from my college or not. and also will I have to do my sport license before I do my private license or there is no order for that?.
