I just came across this video, and I must pay you a compliment as you have done a stellar job of demsontrating the fit of a 1 piece. Being a track racer and owning 2 suits myself, (looking to get a new one) you show us everything we really need to watch out for, especially too small a suit. from year to year our bodies change in size so it doesnt hurt to have a couple of suits. I hope you do another video like this for say 2024, perhaps pointing out some new features of different brands, pros and cons. Thank You

A good friend of mine who’s an avid biker told me to go more comfort that sport, id seen multiple KZbin channels of guys shoehorning their way in to their leathers and they can barely move in them ! I’m usually a 40 but went to a 42 and what a difference it is. I don’t feel like I’m fighting the suit anymore ! I’m not a professional track racer so comfort all the way got me also makes bathroom breaks a hell of a lot easier too !!!

@@pug-man6861 agreed man, you also need to try on different brands for different sizes for instance in dainese im EU size 56 or 58 for comfort BUT in RST (a british brand) im an EU 60/62. The one piece skin underneath is so important too iv found! makes life so much easier!

What do you want a suit for? Track riding or street riding? If it's for track riding, go ahead and buy one. It's worth the investment. If it's for street riding, reconsider if you really need one. Suits get very hot and aren't that comfortable to walk around in. Do you really need a race suit for street riding? Look at a separate vest and pants instead that can connect with a zipper.
@aiya18166 жыл бұрын
jonasv19 I have ridden 1 peace suits and 2 peace suits that connect with a zipper on the street, during riding holidays in the summer and on track. I do not see any benefit in a 2 peace suit anymore. If you want the best protection get a perforated 1 peace suit. If its to cold and you want to ride anyways, you can always wear warmer underwear and/or a large hoody over the suit. Want more comfort, get kangaroo. Want even more comfort, get it tailored. If you are willing to sacrifice safety for comfort, get textile. New versions of the suits from all the brands come out frequently and you can usually get a good discount on the "old" version. So look out for that if money plays a big role in your decision process. The improvements are often not substantial.

I ride a gsxr or my R1, I grew up with my dad and bikes always about. The best advice he ever gave me was. " A decent helmet and decent kit is very high for it all. You have one head and one body. You buy cheap shit or second hand and it fails you could be dead!!. Always pay the most you can save, even more than your bike, your bike you can replace, your body and head you can't. The money these cost is nothing compared to your life and what you leave behind" Best advise I have ever had. A friend died after buying a shit and cheap helmet. I'm still here.

Just got myself a shiny new RPHA Helmet and a one piece is definitely next on the list. I'm 100% sure I'll have sizing issues because I am 6'3", 170lbs and I already have a really hard time finding an overall that's not too short shoulder to crotch. That said I like a tighter fit, which is one (of many, quality feel being the biggest) reason I've picked it over the Nexx XR2 for example which was pretty sloppy in XL.
@jymebale55456 жыл бұрын
I don't blame you at all for the tight fit, I am cold natured and when the weather gets the slightest bit cooler down here in south Tx like it is now I don't own a leather suit and would not wear one but I do put on my leather jacket and will soo need pants too, I would rather sweat a bit than feel coolish at all riding, I have a 2009 BMW 1200RT love it, people love looking at the bike, it's black and light grey, the black is really a dark grey very fine metal flake and it runs like a bat out of hell. Get a tight fitting suit if your headed for the track, you won't be sorry.

Good video Brian. Very well explained. What kind of suit would you recommend for a non-track use and a non-sport position? A two pieces suit or textile?
@sportbiketrackgear3 жыл бұрын
Textile wears lighter and will protect the rider pretty well in a single crash. With leather is wears a little heavier as expected but has the potential to offer a higher level of protection and multiple crashes. In the end only the rider can choose the direction that makes the most sense for them. - Van

Actually funny I got this video on recommendation because while getting another suit is on hold until later in year (my current one is a replica and i lost faith in its crash integrity), i was just thinking about looking at suits. I do like race fit but two factors really stop me from using it; bad left shoulder and my right knee gets rubbed raw something horrible just after hour of wearing so I go for comfort fit (knee gets rubbed but not as bad) which works better for me. I am considering perhaps trying my luck with a kangaroo leather this time.

PRO TIP: Buy a WHITE under-shirt and suit. You'll be about 10x cooler in the paddock. Black may look great, but it's hot as fuck at a track during the summer.

Any advices fortall and skinny riders? If the size is too small is not gonna be long enough if is long enough if gonna be to shaggy everywhere. 😅
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
It will be give an take to find a suit the fits you well off the rack. How much give and take really depends on just how tall and skinny you are. Also important to remember you can make up for short sleeves and legs with gloves and boots. - Van

My suit fits fine but when I fold my hands it feels like really tight and it’s blocking my blood stream. Is that normal ?

That is a super old Astars model that was discontinued a long time ago. Their latest catalog of back protectors is a huge step forward from this one. Here is a link to them on our site: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/alpinestars-body-armor-protection/?_bc_fsnf=1&Product=Back+Protector - Van

Oh man I'm dealing with long legs and trying to find female leather trousers/pants that cater to long legs is atrocious. But the whole 'it restricts your movement' is something I've experienced a lot. Tip to all other people with long legs: do not settle for regular legs. It absolutely impacts your riding negatively.

You kind of showed it when you were putting on your boots. I'm wondering where should I expect the pant leg to end (talking about the cuff) when a suit/leather pants fit correctly? Especially when I am on the bike in a normal riding position. Thanks!
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
Every suit will be a little different and we are all shaped uniquely. As long as the boots overlap with the leg of the suit a reasonable amount you are good to go. What you want to avoid is having the leg too long extending over the ankle, this will make it bulky in the ankle area making it harder to shift etc... - Van

Hi, i am 5'11'' 195lbs, i ususally wear a Dainese Size 54, it feels really comfortable in riding position with all the protectors. I started losing weight and planning to lose about 10 pounds from now on. So, considering this and here in the comments said Dainese is more a "slimmer" type of suit and Alpinestars being more broader. Do you suggest to go down to size 52 for the GP Tech?
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
I would suggest going with a size 56 Euro, same size I wear. Here is a link to this suit on our site, we have a video reviewing it with me wearing it: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/alpinestars-gp-tech-v2-leather-race-suit-tech-air-race-compatible/ www.sportbiketrackgear.com/motorcycle-race-suit-shopping-guide

I’m looking at dainese suits, I’m 6’3 205 with like a 32 in seam with levis, what size should I look for if I plan to use the inside boot?
@sportbiketrackgear2 ай бұрын
You should look at the 56 and 58 Euro sizes. The 56 will be a tighter race style fit with the 58 offering a little more operating room. The in boots do not have any affect on fit. - Van

That is a nice suit... looks better when you see it on a person... 👌 sweeeet..... I was wondering with the air bag size wise .. I am 6'4 and 210lbs 34inc waist and 114 cm chest.. my dainese were 58eu so guessing with alpinestar 58 but with tec air bag EU 60 perhaps??.. Would love your feedback please
@sportbiketrackgear3 жыл бұрын
You should be able to wear an XL Tech Air Race Airbag with a size 56 Euro or 58 Euro in most of the current Astars race suits. - Van

Your videos are very informative, great work. I have a quick question. If I compare a 54 euro and 56 euro Dainese Laguna seca 4. Would the arm circumference be different ?
@sportbiketrackgear4 жыл бұрын
For sure the arm circumference would be a little larger. Not a massive amount but proportionate. - Van

This video is great!!! I've been looking to get a 1-piece because I've been in enough crashes to now know that jeans just don't cut it. I haven't had road rash to the point of skin grafs, but enough little bits of impacts to know they're just no good enough at freeway speeds. My problem, however, is I'm over weight for my height. I'm 5'8" @ 225lbs. I've tried on a 1 piece, but I couldn't get it to zip. Some of that was from not wearing an undersuit to get it on. But the big part was my gut. And since the suit sizes don't have correlating measurements on the person to compare with, I don't know what the proper suit size should be. If I can even get into one that's "off the shelf" and not a custom fit. Any ideas???
