Ive been wanting this bike since it was released and once i noticed that you guys were doing project videos on one of them, i was ecstatic! These videos have reinforced my decision on picking one up in the near future. Plus all of the modifications that have been done so far are spot on, what i want to do to the one that i end up getting. Great job guys, as always.

Yes you can take it out and install the FTECU ABS delete for the yamaha R1. We have a video for it on our channel. - Van

I know this is quite old, but why are there rear pegs on this bike if it's a track bike? Was it a track bike build that had never been on the track?

The bike still had the street bodywork on it at this point. Race bodywork was installed at some point (three different brands) after this video was shot. - Van

Hey Brian, before you pinched the lines on the old abs unit, did you bleed it?
@sportbiketrackgear6 жыл бұрын
Man that was a long time ago so I can not say with 100% certainty. When I service any brake system on the bikes I like to empty it using my power bleeder and the air compressor so I would say the system was most likely empty. - Van

Thx for all the videos, it helps a lot, especially removing the AIS system on my bike !!! I have a lil problem, hope you can help. I bought a second hand 2016 R1 like yours and I have 2 questions. First the ABS was disconnected, ABS motor still in and the fuse was removed. As expected the ABS light is on. Everything is working well except that I don't have shifter anymore. Any idea what is going on ? Second, I wanted to make the GP shift conversion like yours but I checked my bike and it was already done but still have the standard shifting. Any idea maybe ? THANKS
@sportbiketrackgear3 жыл бұрын
Take a look at the shift knuckle on the shaft. It sounds like the previous owner may have flipped this which is why the bike is still in standard shift pattern after making the mod at the shifter. Odds are the shifter will work once you correct the issue with the shift pattern. - Van

To remove the brake modulator on the 15 R1 have you guys tried pulling the fuse on the bosch motor, removing the motor part of the modulator (as it is the heavy bit) and then leaving the solenoid part in to trick the ECU into thinking that everything is still in tact?
@christopher28184 жыл бұрын
Hi. Great video! I have one question though. Does the R1 utilize a brake light switch at the master cylinder, so that one can retain the brake light functionality when ABS has been removed?

Love all the mods you've done thus far. Cool to see someone do this stuff to a new bike. I have to be honest though, this mod seems a bit sketchy. I understand, "Track Bike" but I would have left the ABS in until a kit came out to delete it. I'm just saying...

MrDruaboyea2U I will admit there was a small part of me that was hoping I would not take the bike in the wrong direction. Fortunately I have some solid contacts that were able to provide answers to the questions I had so I was confident it would work. Hey Brian, I have a question. Is it possible to keep the stock brake lines on in the front and only remove the abs lines connecting to the unit? I have 2015 R1
@sportbiketrackgear5 жыл бұрын
No, if you are removing the ABS from the bike you will need to install a new line kit on the bike designed to do that. The OEM ABS kit is routed differently and will not allow you to reuse the front lines. - Van
@kyleharris205 жыл бұрын
Sportbike Track Gear could I be able to cut and pinch the lines so that I am able to delete the abs unit but still retain the original brake lines in the front?
@Yamaprilia5 жыл бұрын
I was looking at this option. You could use the front lines if you remove all the rest of the lines of the bike. You would need to make a very small u shape piece out of solid brake pipe with a nut on each end so you can pipe from the master side of the manifold block sitauated under the bottom yoke straight into the caliper side. I might be doing this soon so i will post if i do go that route.

Van, did you ever do a follow up video on the disposition on the ABS? Did you reinstall and leave it out? Could you explain if the module goes back into the bike has it just been capped off and plugged back in to work with the electronic, or did you rerun all of the lines that were internal so that the ABS is operational?
@sportbiketrackgear8 жыл бұрын
I have left the BPMV and the module in the bike. All the fluid ports are plugged off and the connector is plugged in. There is a main fuse for the ABS unit that I have removed. This set up works perfectly, zero issues at all. - Van

Sportbike Track Gear. Hi from the Uk. I only ride on the track and I'm just about to fit "HEL" brake hoses and a Brembo Master Cylinder to my 2015 R1.(This would bypass the ABS on the front only). Curious to know....Do you get any warnings on the dash of you bypass the ABS? If I "Completely" disconnect "ALL" the ABS lines but leave the module plugged in.....does this affect the electronics at all? Or is it just purely ABS. I'd rather not have warnings on the dash....but like you...I like the feel of Non Abs for the track. (That's all I've ever known to be honest). Sorry for all the questions. Hope you can help. Ps. Love the vids.👍🏼 thanks.

Hey Van, first off these videos are great! I have a list created of all the mods I want to do to my new R1 when I take delivery of it based off of this build series. Question for you. Is there a benefit to the Spiegler lines over the factory steel braided lines? For someone like me who rides mostly street and does maybe 4-6 track days a year would you say it is a necessary upgrade if there is a major difference? Thanks for these awesome videos!

Hey van, quick question. If I dont plan on removing the ABS. I plan on just changing out pads and fluid. Do I need anything special so I dont screw up the ABS system or booster? Do I just suck out all the fluid. Replace and follow the same steps of bleeding? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Brian, pulled everything off, then discovered I ordered the ABS lines by mistake. How did you get the Spiegler non-ABS lines you installed? - Great videos by the way, doing the cat eliminator and block off plates also, the dis-assembly was disaster free thanks to you. Brian thanks for these great video tutorials. Say I just wanna remove the abs from my bike? Would it be sufficient to trace down all the lines from the abs unit, remove them and the unit itself (given I install the abs delete you're showing in another video)? Would that improve my feel for the brakes at all?, or is it necessary to upgrade my lines as well if I want better feel? many thanks!

strange to go through so much to get rid of the ABS which would help you stop faster and is definitely safer on the road, considering this is a road bike too?

Joshua Engering ABS definitely does not help you stop "faster." It actually increases stopping distance. what it does do is keep the wheels from locking up so you can maintain control under heavy braking. Do your research kiddo!
