@@knottymatt As Warne is saying in this video, Nasser hated and sledged him on the field but had huge respect for him away from it and became good friends. England fans have the same attitude towards Warne as Nasser did. Kohli on the other hand is a bhenchod on and off the cricket field. Warne is in the top 5 cricketers of all time. Kohli barely makes the top 50.

Many memories sitting in front of the TV as a younster in the 90s watching Warne tear through the Kiwis. I just loved watching him bowl. I could and did watched him for hours. I was glued to the TV watching the ball spin all over the place. What a man and what a team the Aussies were.

Carlton & United Series 1st Final 10 Feb 1999. Only fact Warnie got wrong here was that Nasser was the captain. Stewart was England's captain throughout the series. But Warnie was captain for most of the tri-series that Aus won, including the 2 finals.

it's just occurred to me with Broad retiring that he took more from Warne than he did from any seam bowler (although his hero is McGrath)... the sense of theatre and the ability to work the drama and the crowd to a point where it impacts on the batter. you can totally see Warne doing the bail trick or do the exaggerated bat-downs after Bairstow's stumping. The reason why the 2005 series is the best i've ever seen? because the bowling on both sides was as good as it gets - Warne, McGrath, Lee, Jones, Harmison, Flintoff and Hoggard were all superb that series... so every run scored was an achievement.

100% agree that the post game beers and banter with the opposing team should be a thing again. Test Cricket gives everyone the opportunity to be a hero, or do something that becomes an embarrassing anecdote the commentators will bring up time and time again!

Lets face it, as cheeky chappy and famed for his sledging as Warney was, his sledging worked because he was feared almost his entire career for his actual abulity to bowl. He walked the walk. You can sometimes get in someone's head (Broad with the replacing the bail trick) quite out the blue but Warne was able to really go in for it cause he had the record to back up his swagger. If batsmen are already scared of you, sledging is basically juat bullying. :D
