Well done Tobi Amusan......your time to shine 🇯🇲 Jamaica celebrates with you!!!! Haters say it's wind....we say talent!! Keep shining empress Tobi!! I am never shocked with American commentary. Imagine the US topped the medal tally with 13 gold and pressed with Nigeria's one gold and World Record. They did the same with our Jamaican athletes....ignore them

Hah, Michael Johnson's focus is relevant focus in significance a modified unorthodox structural design in a shoe [ not merely cosmetics, like gold colored] provides unfair advantages over that of competitors not availed that novel design. The specific types of shoe in this case is limited to sprint running form shoes including the hurdles. The ridiculous absurdity from panelist in their laughable ignorance was to present a basis of attesting confluence of sprint running shoes with long distance shoes LOL. Furthermore, Michael Johnson's premise stands firm with historic precedent. An internationally known sprinter in the 200 meters was denied the win and record when it was observed his sprint running shoe (same design for hurdles) was unauthorized by regulations. Michael Johnson's admirable efforts is maintaining and preserving an even fair running field practice in competition.

Rufai, you are spot on on this issue. In the '80's and '90's when Nigerian athletes were at their best, American athletes dominance was threatened. It was this same Michael Johnson that mounted a campaign to stop American Universities from according Nigerian athletes scholarships to study in US. His argument was that the Nigerian athletes will be developed in US but they will end up running for Nigeria, and not America. I watched him testified on the floor of the congress. So, the guy never liked anything Nigerian! He is not doing anything new here. Anyway, that means we should also take care of ourselves. Thanks.

Now, if you look at the race and see Tobi's reaction, she NEVER expected to run that fast, never expected a world record and you can see the surprise and shock on her face when she saw the time. Tobi Amusan just ran the best race of her life, won a gold medal, and broke the world record. Everything was perfect for her for that day( the best start, good shape, and mental strength). Michael Johnson must know that he is an African and he should be happy for that. He won 8 gold medals and broke world records in 400 and 200 meters during his time because he has the African athletic DNA in him. He should stop this kind of unnecessary criticisms and just support athletics and make it good. More world champions will still come from Nigeria because Nigeria is a sprint nation. I don't believe in the wind assisted during the 12:06 seconds unless I see the machine myself with my naked eyes. These accusations will make Nigerian and African athletes even more determined to break world records. Some stupid people even said Usain Bolt took drugs when he ran 9:58 seconds and broke his own world record of 9:62 in 100 meters.

Cindy Semper ran 12.36 in the hurdles final, it does not count as the British record because of the wind speed. The British national record remains at 12.50 that she ran in the semi-final. Back in the 1988 Olympics Flo-Jo ran 10.54 in the 100m final, but it could not count as the Olympic record because the wind speed was too high, so the Olympic record remained at 10.62 that she ran in the semi-final, until it was finally broken by Elaine Thompson who ran 10.61 last year in the Tokyo Olympics

While we rejoice in the glory brought upon the motherland by Tobi Amusan, let's note that she may not have made it to this level if she was in a university in Nigeria and had no access to a quality coach. Nigerians are holding their own around the world largely due to the presence of conditions that enable people to max their potentials and capabilities in the countries where they reside outside of Nigeria. As I watched her run to finish, my mind went to the Nigeria University Games(NUGA). This is supposed to be a platform to discover and nurture talents to world class. But what do we have? Failed system. We must as citizens continue to call for accountability from the nation's leadership to create those conditions that would help Nigerians to max their capacity. Yes, self-drive and motivation are key, but societal/ institutional support is also key in helping people to max their potentials.

@@prospektarty1513 No, you got it all wrong. The post was not intended to condemn or rubbish my nation but its leaders that have held the nation and its people hostage for so long. Where known channels such as elections by and through which citizens could demand for accountability from the ruling elites are rigged in favour of the ruling elites, the people are left with no choice but to take to platforms such as this to draw attention to the failure of the political leadership in Nigeria. You do not have an idea the massive suffering that citizens are going through due to poor governance, and the propensity of the ruling elites to steal the wealth of the nation for their selfish ends. Imagine students being forced to stay at home for 5 months now because public universities are shut down due to strike action embarked upon by teaching staff over poor working conditions. Five (5) whole months and the govt doesn't even seem disturbed. You do not understand our journey, so it may be hard for you to feel our pains and frustration. Jamaica is a global powerhouse in athletics especially track and field. I am sure that didn't happen by magic. It must have been as a result of a well structured plan to discover and nurture talents that can compete and bring honour and glory to your nation. seriously...I ran track. I was a hurdler, sprinter and jumper. I'm Nigerian but I ran in the UK. That is the context. Now, if you look at the race and see Tobi's reaction, she NEVER expected to run that fast, never expected a world record and you can see the surprise and shock on her face when she saw the time. It is indeed suspicious that a sprinter will break a WR by that margin and MJ was perfectly within reason to suspect that something was amiss. Anyone who accuses him of racism or the like is not a follower of the sport and they are just talking. I congratulate her but MJ doesn't deserve the backlash, it is a very unusual thing.

But she is not the only one wearing the shoe. Anyone including the americans can buy a pair. The shoe argument is utter rubbish. The 3 million ppl on the island of jamaica would let MJ and others know what they think if it was one of their athletes.

Sadly this anchor does not sound informed. Tobi wanted softer soles because of her injury. Secondly hurdlers are 90% technique and 10% SPEED. The shoes have nothing to do with her results. He could have said that in three sentences. Geeez!

If all 12 athletes increased their Personal Best record in the same race then I would be asking questions as well.

@@lequsejones5384 It’s blind loyalty at play. The right thing to do would be to investigate. If it’s a timer error it would be easily verifiable. I am Nigerian too but I try to be just in everything.

Nigeria should and must take care of their national athletes... Because US.. will gain a lot of this athletes, they will become athletes in US if they will not be taken care of... US is accepting a lot of foreign athletes for education... Amusan is one of them... Take care of your athletes Nigeria💪💪💪👏👏👏
