It's that 2nd corner of the card going into the penny sleeves that can hit the top edges of it. In the past with very expensive cards what I've done on a tip from a card shop is cut open the top sides of the penny sleeve about half an inch right on the seem. That can allow more space on top to get the 2nd corner in. 99% of the time I've seen people putting cards in penny sleeves they do just what he does in this video with the first corner and then the 2nd gets pushed though with the top of the sleeve basically all the way together. This often touches that 2nd corner.
@gicueN17R02 жыл бұрын
Or try taking the sleeve and grab the sleeve like he shows but rub back and forth. It opens up that final side fir easy opening. But like your idea as well as long as you don't compromise the sleeve.
@freedomfight19332 жыл бұрын
@@gicueN17R0 I do that but I still feel like that 2nd corner can touch the top of the plastic edge because the sleeve has to be pretty spread out to get the 2nd corner in.
@gicueN17R02 жыл бұрын
@@freedomfight1933 no. You're definitely right here. I've used that trick I told and only if you really are lucky or aggressive with the rubbing it does it sometimes hold that side open enough not to even cause a bit of a hang up. I did think it would be good to share tho. Some people may not like cutting it even if it's still ok. So just an alternative method. But yea, you're right. It doesn't always work. And I HATE that second side trying to put it in. I'm doing this now after 25+ years away from the hobby so a lot of this is news partly because I'm only 41 and a kid back then really. So I am not taking it as seriously as I'm trying to now so that I can help my struggling nephew out. He is a great kid worrying about me because I'm terminally ill although he doesn't necessarily know the word he understands the possibility. And he's going thru the absolute worst divorce that I've ever witnessed or been aware of. Like to strangle the guy but I'm too old and sick to goto jail. He's beat my sister and tried to strangle her. I just dont know how much of the stuff he is trying to pull or the stuff he's doing to.the kids. Mental health for them is like a joke. And then getting bullied on top of it all. So I'm doing this for him and him only really. I mean if I can turn it into a business he gets his cut etc. Even at 7yo. This was our deal. Just like if he stays in school & does well he gets my only car. Black Mustang chocolate leather interior. I got bullied too. Was a part of Columbine years ago so I know what driving a bad car can feel like when your getting made fun of can turn into. This whole thing has me sick. Sorry for explaining so much. I guess wtiting it wad kinda cathartic. 🤷

One more thing he did not mention (that is pretty critical) is, as a rule your hands are never clean and will transfer fingerprints, the average person touches their face and skin and so on many times during the day and getting those micro-layers of oil on the fingers will transfer to the cards (100% of the time). Don't ever handle cards in any seriousness without wearing gloves. Must be the certain type of glove that won't transfer fingerprints through the latex. Another thing when were on it, is humidity of the environment. Make sure that the surrounding environment is cool and dry; many cards I acquire have penny sleeves stuck to the cards so bad that they need to be cut out of them, and it's because of the relative humidity. Those cards usually need some heavy cleaning before they can have any attempt at being graded. I understand this vid is for the beginner, but moving from the beginner phase to the intermediate and expert phase happens very quickly, usually within a year or two, so you might as well have spoken about this issue. People might swear blind that they don't need gloves, but when you're grading all the time, the serious news is that you most definitely do.

I used to put nicer cards in one touches but I've gone off that idea. Some cards are too snug in there and some have movement. Also, some cards have a small bow in them and that results in the case coming into contact with the surface. To counteract this I used to put a penny sleeve on the surface of the card. That was a pain in the.....neck. I now just do penny sleeve, toploader, and teambag. Temperature control is most important. Cards do not like heat and/or humidity - especially foil cards.
@tampahomeinvestorsllc75592 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. The one touch case makes the card look great, but a penny sleeve and either a top loader or a card saver is the best way to go with a team bag over them to keep dust out.
@matthoffman69622 жыл бұрын
Depends what you’re doing with the card. If you’re displaying it best is to go for a UV one touch. There is some movement but not enough to damage the card in any way. I’ve tested this and the only damage you will get is if you violently shake the case back and forth. For protection only and not displaying. Penny sleeve, toploader, team bag.

On top of these ways Geoff mentioned, when storing cards in a top loader I will cut one side of the Penny sleeve a few millimeters from the top, this helps slide the card in without damage to the corners. It's waterproof,smell proof, and as damage proof as you can get. Has lock slots that double for slinge so can were over shoulder. Also Magnetic holders do scratch card especially chrome or prizm. #UltraPro should make a little bigger cases were penny sleeves fit. PSA can confirm. For those of us who have collected and graded for you years remember Topps Chrome Box Toppers. They would almost never get 10s because movement of card causes lil scratches. For folks asking about one touch with penny sleeves, you want to get Pro Mold cases. The first or second gen will work, but they allow you to put the card in a penny sleeve first, then put it in the case. They, hands down, make the best cases. Pro Mold Gen 2 35 point will handle most regular sized-thickness cards (prizm, optic, etc) I’m in the process of moving all my big cards from top loaders to Pro Molds (if they’re not already graded). I recently learned of magnetic one touches that are designed to be used with a card IN a penny sleeve. My thought is that the cards you choose to one touch are going to be the cards you admire the most often, show off, pass around the table, take to shows as trade bait, etc. Basically, the cards that get put in a one touch are likely going to be the cards that get handled the most. I've never had card get damaged in a one touch, screw downs included. I do, however, love the idea of having a soft sleeve between my cards and hard plastic. Love ya homie. They don't make binder sleeves for top loaders. What I do is put the card inside a penny sleeve and then sleeve the card into the 9 pocket binder sleeve. It will add a bit more protection. For her valuable top loaded cards, you may need to get some high quality clear tape and tape the top loader shut completely across so it is less noticeable. Then get team bags and put them in those and tape the bag. Hopefully her picking away at the tape will give you enough time to catch her and stop her from taking out the card. Cheers and happy collecting.

good vid by a good man, tku but your missing a couple issues. The 1st Q an A - is a safety deposit box safe for cards with regards to temperature? i have read that proper storage of cards is between 68 - 72 degrees (a fine line by the way), now i know banks have a.c. and rotate shifts quick enough so that the temp does not drop to much either way, but they do turn off the a.c. when closed and same with heat in the winter, and the temp does fluctuate - i was told some where between 4 - 8 degrees either direction, so something to think about! so far i have not seen a podcast that touches on this. Also humidity even a more important issue, i know some storage rooms have temp control, but the bank vaults do not, they are all about profit, and best believe they safe as much money as possible with con-ed, they do not care about what you store in their safe boxes, thats on us!! as for humility they absolutely do not use dehumidifier's. - 45% - 55% is the desired humidity % from what i read so far... thats another thing to think about. Also a good question is once a card is slabbed - PSA/BECK/SGC etc... does that protect the card better from these issues? and finally in regard to display, you have not addressed the issue of light affecting autographed cards, i read that not only does natural sunlight destroy and fade auto's so quick, most people would not believe it, but light from a simple light bulb is just as destructive, i have actually seen store owners throwing out faded autographs by the box load to my horror, kind of like jim belushi having a mental breakdown in the movie animal home, when campus security was clearing out their dorms bar, and the mover trips, dropping a box of scotch braking all the bottles! i held my hands to my head and let out a very similar sound of despair!! so from what iv'e seen on a vid, is they have either a special spray that blocks like 99% of any harmful rays, (of course sprayed after the card is suited up/protected- magnetic holder etc...) or they have special display cases where the glass has this protective quality. other wise you have to keep your auto's in the dark for most of the time or you will be sorry. Thats what i can share, hope it helps anyone out there..

Great video except for 2 very specific things. 1. Toploaders don't need a piece of tape to prevent the card coming out as long as you are not shipping it. If you do, it's better to use saran wrap around the toploader, so the buyer doesn't have to throw that toploader away. Card savers don't need tape at all. 2. You shouldn't put unsleeved cards in One Touch holders, there's perfect fit sleeves for most standard card sizes, and pretty much all of them fit on One Touch holders. For standard size cards, a good option is Dragonshield sealable sleeves, because they protect all 4 edges and both sides when the card is in the One Touch.

Penny Sleeve all decent cards, Cards you want to grade immediately put in Card Saver. Done. Grading companies cut the card savers to get the cards out easier.

Use a bit of cement mix around the edges before penny sleeving. Will protect those edges

I'm still new at this so I store my cards with a top loader and store them sideways inside of cardboard storage box. I store them so tight that there isn't room to move at all inside the box. Do u think this will damage the cards? I'm still pretty new to this card collecting, it would be greatly appreciated if u can help me out. Thanks in advance.

I hate when they tape the card In use a top loader sleeve it won't get glue on the edge of the card I've bought a few where they taped it and the card slit up and stuck to the tape when I get them out the side edge always has glue on it and the one touch cases are able to spread at the bottom iv had cards slide to the bottom and damage

I see people in the conventions with boxes they have their cards in, what are those called? Thanks.

I use a Ruggard Dry Cabinet. It's not the ultimate solution but it ticks the most boxes for me.

What is ur opinion on One Screw vs Magnetic ? Should a sleeve be used with a One Screw ?

Idk about screws. They sandwich the corners.
