Sorry to hear about your mom she sounds like a great person. So many of us from the 90s are back into cards. This really is a crazy time. My first job at 14 was also at a very large sports card store here in the Atlanta area. Used to ride my bike there and back 5 days a week during the summer. Now my parents would be arrested for that :)

So many of those cards in there were like going back in time! I still have some of the cards from my childhood but i am missing my sets i put together my self with my dads help from the 80's

Sorry to hear about your Mum it was great to hear some of your fond memories. I loved the football stars cards, saw Peter Shilton there. He was a very famous England Goalkeeper and you may recognise as the Goalkeeper that Maradona scored his “Hand Of God” goal against! Has played more England international games than any other of our players!

I can't tell you how much that video speaks to me. I grew up in that same generation of card collecting and because of COVID-19, I pulled out my old collection and have been full throttle since. Don't tell my wife, but the same LCS I went to at 12, I've been spending money at again. Cheers and I'm sorry for the loss of your mother.

Sorry for your loss! I lost both my parents in the past 3 years. They were both only 58 years old. My childhood collection was placed in a storage unit which I didn't learn about until it was too late and had been auctioned off, but thank you for the his episode, along with the father's day episode. It was nice to see all of your old cards. I had so many of the same, as I'm sure most of the viewers in their late 30's - 40's had.

You know, it's actually enjoyable to watch someone present cards that aren't all PSA 9s or 10s or modern day chase cards. You and I probably started collecting around the same time (1987 for me) and I still have every card I have ever purchased. Two that I remember purchasing vividly with my mother are a 1962 Topps Hank Aaron (beat to hell) and a "mint" 1988 Topps Tiffany Roberto Alomar from a place called The Sports Gallery right before it went under. Good stuff man. I really enjoyed this video.

Hi Jeff, I love this video and the memories of your childhood with your mother by your side. I am 58 and started collecting and flipping a few years ago. I was a "cardhound" in the early to mid 70's. I believe the sidearm pitcher you were referring to in the video was Kent Tekulve who played for the Pirates. Take care my friend.

Thanks for another great video Geoff. Really enjoyed these stories you shared. I can especially relate to the parts about your mom being an active advocate of your passion for the hobby. Same experience here. She used to take me to card shows and card shops and pick up packs to open. She actually encouraged me to get back into the hobby just this past December, and has helped to dig through my collection from the 80's and early 90's and is actively sending me some periodically. Same here I hadn't seen them in 30 years! Crazy to relive childhood and all of that excitement and passion for the hobby all again, now sharing it with my 9 yr old son.

My deepest condolences Jeff... Sorry for your loss... Remember that the sorrow comes from all the good memories. Those will last forever. Tough story about the day on the job. Mistakes happen. Don't be hard on yourself. My experience of you is that if this happened to you and you were the owner, you would be more empathetic and understanding. The flip side is that it didn't sap your enthusiasm for sports cards. Look at the impact your making on the industry now man!

Lol... I relate to do many aspects of your collecting as a child. Probably similar to everyone around 40 years old. I had a huge Juan Gonzalez collection. I loved the look of having the 90 Donruss Rated Rookie side by side with the reverse negative in a binder. Looked like a mirror image. I'm from North Florida where card shops were very limited back then but I had cousins and Sarasota and when we'd go visit during the summer, we'd hit up all the card shops. I remember getting my first Beckett down there along with a lot of binders and collecting supplies to go with all my cards. Those memories are so vivid. Thanks for sharing.

My first job was at the LCS too, but I was working there way before I was "legally" allowed to work, lol.... No, once I was old enough I just started to get paid... I worked at the LCS between the age(s) of 12-18 ... I was doing card shows (with help from my mother) - since I was 10 and I put on (conducted) my first card show at the age of 12, I was considered a "big boy dealer" at 13 - I was considered a legitimate dealer at 13 - if I didn't have a card I would get it for yo.... Look, it was fun until I was 18, started having girlfriends,, cars and "adult things" and I moved away from the hobby until 2015 when I was 35 - and I have been infatuated ever since - I flip cards for a living and couldn't be happier ... Look, I got back in because I bought a pack of cards for nostalgia reasons and pulled an Auston Matthews Young Gun in that pack, looked it up on eBay like 2 weeks later and realized it was worth about $250 bucks - and that was kinda my startup capital and here I am making a living flipping cards... But flipping cards is and always will be "my calling" - it comes just so natural .... It takes passion in this business, it really does - there is not one dealer out there that hates cards but sells them- sure you can get bored at times, you can get tired and need a break but cards are always in your heart - or part of your identity... I know many wouldn't be able to understand that but the true collectors out there absolutely do... And I would like to say my Mother understood this and she did the best job she could aiding my card addiction and my involvement in the hobby, lol and although I'm a bit late and mothers day was several weeks ago I would like to tell my Mother that I love her and I'm grateful for the opportunities she has given me to work with cards and in this hobby and make a living doing it......

Here's a story for you. My father left when I was 1 my sister was 2 my brother was 3. So it was just my mom and us 3 kids. We grew up poor really poor. She worked but she still got assistance in the form of food stamps. Back then in the early 90's it was paper food stamps. And the little store in My town the owners husband sold sports cards at the ice cream shop. So I would go in with a dollar buy something for .50 or a quarter and get the change in real money then I would have to leave and come back so I could buy a pack of cards for .50 or .75 cents. I used to have so many cards doing that over the years every time I could get a dollar from my mom. Now my 8 year old son Lost his mom to cancer So I am trying to get him into the hobby and get excited about it like I was at his age.

Really loved the video, I have recently got back into collecting since graduating college. It was something I loved as a kid and it still feels the exact same now. I am curious what fraternity you were a member of? I was in greek life myself

Great post. Love your channel, watch every new post to relax and get disled in to market. I was also a hige Bash Brothers / Jaun Gonzalez fan...somehow many Bash Brother fans loved Jaun as well and I cant recall what the connection was? I know there was a connection. Maybe a HR Champ race one year?
