"Are there ever mornings where it's like 'Damn it, I don't want to do this'?" "Every morning" When you do it anyway, that's what makes a champion

Going back to this, it’s sad to see he’s not in a space where he’s just happy to be there. In 2016, the last generation had the mentality of I’m just happy to swim and whatever happens, happens. The Olympic trials so far have been a changing of the guard. People I believe would have no problem making it aren’t, and while it’s making a new wave of much needed faces in the sport, it’s sad to see the individuals that inspired and had such a large impact on my own swimming career struggle. Ryan made a huge mistake, I won’t sugar coat it. In the world of swimming he’s lost a lot of respect he once had. But I don’t think we’ve given him the same understanding as others. Michael has 2 DUIs. I swear missy has made cry every time I hear her speak about her own struggles after 2013. There will be others we of course don’t hear talk about the pain and pressure. And just bc you’re a legend you don’t get a guaranteed pass to the Olympics unlike say the nfl that would allow a legend to more easily retire on their own terms. I respect how Ryan is trying to reshape his imagine but he’s running out of time I will say there are others outside of the sport of swimming that have made huge mistakes but they had the media support/advisors to not make such a fool of themselves

Yeah hope he can accept that his highs and lows and personal worth aren't just defined by how fast he swims or if he's first second third or last

As a former Gator swimmer (long before Lochte) I understand these pressures and am so proud of him for the path he is on. With his dedication and work ethic, win or lose in swimming he will prevail in life in the end.

I hope he’s able to redeem himself and get back on top. He lost MILLIONS in sponsorships back in the 2016 scandal. I mean he literally lost his income basically. I hope for his sake he can prove everyone wrong and get back on top
