👉 In the video, I mention orthotics to correct over-pronation. Here's an example made with memory foam based on NASA technology: amzn.to/3pveygK If you buy anything via these links, we may get a small commission at no extra cost to you.

My right leg started (& still has some nerve tension), & then my knee would feel irritated (on & off), & now I was wondering why I had discomfort on the front of my tibia, which I now learn it could be shin splints (or stress fracture?). The discomfort keeps moving around in my right leg. It’s not that bad but tends to bother me most at not when I’m trying to sleep, so I’ll wear a knee brace. I’ll feel a full throbbing in the bones at the frontside on my tibia. I’ve decided I’ll go see a physical therapist in the coming months if it doesn’t get better; I’m doing relative rest right now. Thanks for this video, because it explained a lot!

Great content thank you. What about outer front side tibial muscle pain (anterior tibialis?)? I have pain there, not on the inner posteior side, but I have the 'problems' you stated (not enough rest, foot pronating, etc...). It's been on and off now for 1-1,5months. Jumping on one leg is fine, not painful. After runs i feel it, or in the beginningbut then disappears once warmed up (after 10-15min..). Not throbbing pain and not in the bone, but alongside the outer side of tibia. Resting helped butprobably loaded it too much too quickly so it flared up again (altough first 6 and 8k sessions were fine and pain free.. the 3rd longer run was probably too much).
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
I can't really tell what is causing your injury with the limited info, but it does sound as if you've actually given your own solution - if resting calmed it down and it was only due to increasing the load too quickly that it flared back up, then this injury will very likely heal if you can get the loading right. So, you likely have to allow it to calm down and then super slowly build your running back up over several weeks. Learn from your previous failed attempt and do it even more slowly and allow enough recovery time. If you want help understanding your exact injury and what the best treatment is, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. This video was very helpful knew that it was a good to listen to my little pains and aches. I think I have shin splints but they are not serious, I think I can shelve running for a little bit and moderate stress it too much. I am sure it will be a long term recovery but I am lucky because I am not an athlete

Think I have shin splints on the outside of my calf xx do you treat the outside the same as the inside
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 3 жыл бұрын
You don’t get shin splints on the outside of the calf. It’s likely to be a calf strain or something else - best to consult someone who can diagnose it for you.

I have shin splints for one and a half year, around 18 months. I was resting 3-4 times for 3 months and i would come back on track and start with a training such as 20 mins run without stop, now after listening to this I actually realized that i have bad technic for running ( my legs are collapsing, am running to straight, not opening my foot...) however i have a problem with time, am i football referee and i need to run, 90 mins, and next game will probably be for 60 days, after a start of a new season. Can i recover from this? I would implement your walk-run 1min in my daily routine so i could speed up the process and progress it after a while. I will also train other parts of my legs such as quads, glutes, hips... is that a good plan? Also what the you think about implementing calf raises into daily routine, but not like to overdo it, very gently like 10-15 times 3 x day.

If these treatments worked why are there so many videos on how to treat shin splints. Bob even admitted in one video that he could not help his own son. Shin splints or Medial tibial stress syndrome is very frustrating and difficult to treat. The reason is exactly what is happening in this video. They are treating the symptoms and not the cause of the pain. That is the reason why so many commenting below do not get better. The problem that I have found is related to the ankle stability. All of my patients with SS have loose ankle ligaments and it is the laxity or looseness in the joint that causes the problem. When the ankle is stabilized the pain will go away or improve significantly. See the link below to see a video of a loose ankle and how the ankle is braced and stabilized. www.bauerfeind.com/b2c/Health/Guides/Shin-Splints/c/shin-splints I have used this brace on hundreds of runners and it works every time. Runners love it because it gets rid of the pain and it is comfortable. Use the promo code SHINS15 for 15% off and Bauerfeind has a 100% satisfaction guarantee and they will refund your money if it does not work. E-mail me at shinsplintsnomore@gmail.com if you have more questions.

I don’t run but cycle and suffer badly with shin splints in my right leg. I’ve an imbalanced calf muscle and a over active lateral soleus muscle. The outside always take all the weight and force of peddling, standing and exercising. It’s always tight and stretching doesn’t help. They are very painful. I have high arches and right rolls in.

What would you do if you have a race in a month and half .. I start feeling after long runs and some changes on my technique also new Nike shoes with carbon plate
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
Ah, the carbon plates may be part of the issue - my friend also found his tendons around his ankle flared up from transitioning to them too quickly. They are very unstable compared to other shoes so you need time to get used to them. I would switch back to your normal running shoes and reduce your training load a little bit to allow recovery. Then after your race take time to slowly transition to the Nike shoes.

ive had lower shin pain for months now,changed insoles and trainers,work boots afew times now ,still painfull when walking any advice would be great
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
It usually requires a combination of the correct shoes + load management (this involves looking at everything you do in a day and working out what needs adapting) + exercises (what exercises it needs depends on your case and how it reacts to specific things). If you wanted help with your rehab and an exercise plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. Question I’m overweight and I’m walking on treadmill….. I’m not tired but the muscle on the out side of my lower leg is extremely tight with pain is this shin splits …and also is it my sneakers that’s old run down…..? It’s the muscle on the outside of my leg
@IT_Farhan
@IT_Farhan 2 жыл бұрын
Muscle and tendon pain won’t be shin splints. Shin splints is pain on the bone. Try looking up some anatomy videos so you can isolate the muscle that hurts and then strengthen it. Massage it with your hands to make sure it’s not stuck tight.
@isaiah6408
@isaiah6408 2 жыл бұрын
@@IT_Farhan pretty sure shin splints is muscle and the facia. Stress fractures are bone though
@IT_Farhan
@IT_Farhan 2 жыл бұрын
@@isaiah6408 technically true - muscle can be a factor, but only the origin point on the bone. Normal muscle stiffness that OP was referring to wouldn’t be that, that is what I was getting at

Help! I’m 76 and have arthritis in both feet, so I wear orthotics inside rocker shoes. I used to ballroom dance for 30 yrs but now find that I have bio-mechanical problems and the symptoms of Shin Splints and possibly a small fracture half way down my right shin. I can only walk in pain now. Is there any hope for me as I’m unable to kneel or sit on the floor due to a left knee replacement. Yes, I’m falling to bits but I refuse to give up and sit all day with my legs raised. Can anyone help?
