being that much of a physical presence, and still get you 20+ goals 40-50 pts, tom wilson has got skill, that's what seperates him from like a ryan reeves type player. And he's still like 25-26, he can get better and maybe end up being a 30 goal guy in right circumstances, that 5 million per year is looking not too bad now. Id have wilson on my team anyday of the week regardless of his contract, its worth it for the rare type of power forward he is.

Absolutely. He’s one of the few enforcers in the league who’s actually very effective offensively, and as you said, he’s on track to becoming a 30 goal scorer. Meatheads like Ryan Reaves or Ross Johnston suck at actually playing hockey and are on the ice purely to lay dirty hits and drop the gloves

the amount of work he need to be done is underrated...1st line, power play, penalty kill, throwing bodys almost every shift, can stand for himself or a teammate, can score and pass as well. One of my favourite players on the ice nowadays

He’s the Tight End of the NHL. Most versatile player in the game. Top penalty killer, a great Power Play piece. He can play on the top line. He can hit. He can fight. He can score. He can pass.

Comparing these two (Reaves/Wilson) is like comparing Donald Brashear to Brendan Shanahan. Reaves is a great fighter and "Hit" guy who should never be considered for a Top 6 role. It took Wilson a few years to realize some untapped potential but I don't think he has hit his ceiling yet either.

Tom Wilson is the sort of guy who if he is on your team you love him, but if he is not, you cannot stand him. But be honest. A guy who is such a physical presence and puts 20+ goals and 40 points up a season for your team is as rare as a black opal. If he keeps up this pace for a few more years he will be lauded as one of the greatest players in the game. Plus his team mates love him, including one Mr Alexander Ovechkin.

I'm a big Wilson fan. Very unique skill set in today's game. He does a lot of good things out on the ice but for those who don't watch him every game you only see the blemishes on his game which is unfortunate. He's a fun player to watch and can be disciplined when he wants to be and his PIMs this season are proof of that. I have watched him since he entered the league and i'm happy to see that he has substantially cleaned up his game from the early days as a young NHLer.

One more thing here on Wilson. After his Pre Season hit on Sundqvist and suspension many were making ridiculous comments about him being kicked out the league because of "all the players' careers that have ended because of his dirty play." I responded with: "If you haven't seen him play live you should before suggesting something so asinine! We all love the physical play and energy he brings to the game. What the league needs is an adjusted Wilson because he is a multi-talented beast who can play in all situations including the late 3rd period lead protection he provides. This league would be much better off with an adjusted Wilson than without Wilson at all." Now he's cleaned it up considerably and he's beating the Wilson hate club on the scoreboard rather than physical punishment. They asked for it!

So I dont get shredded for this, think about it; when talking about player to player comparisons, Wilson is probably one of the closest or if not the closest when it comes to someone being a modern day Bob Probert. Tough as nails, will fight anyone, always throwing the body, and can also score. Keep in mind this isnt a direct comparison to one of the baddest mf’ers to ever lace them up, but I think everyone can agree that they hate him because he isn’t on your team. Still, I think that is interference if not boarding since the puck is not there. I am not sure if it exceeds 0.8 sec to define as interference. And I am a caps fan. I would say it is a penalty when Joe B and Craig called it immediately. Most of the time they are fair.

@@anonymous134y Btw, there is nothing saying in the rule about what is called "immediately following" his loss of possession. So how do they define immediately? That is why every time there is a potential late hit, people talks about how it is interference or not because NHL never gives full definition of the thing which they could clearly do better than this. I just heard from everywhere talking about late hit ranging from 0.5 sec to 1.5 sec. I don't know what is the definition. I just put a number there so that it is a visible measurement of how a hit can be a late hit. And judging from what you have said about the "legal hit", you clearly have no idea what interference is.

This was a great season so far from Wilson. He still has some work to do, but he really cleaned up his act this season. None of those senseless dangerous interferences most of the illegal ones are just split second mistakes. He's needed guys like Gudy and Hath to take the heat off a bit. I think it's difficult to argue he's not the most effective hitter in the league. I mean it's fun watching guys get tossed into the air, but the best ones for my money are the ones where you just deck a guy in the dirt and get on the back check before he knows what hit him

I've been saying for years that Wilson was gonna be the new generation Todd Bertuzzi-type player. You get the total package with Willy. Great versatile power forward! Playing on the top line with the likes of Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Kuznetsov at times has given him so much more depth to his skill level. Top Line Tom, FTW!
