Gents, interesting discussion on Stammer, loyalty and insulting offers. As a lifelong Wings fan, we had to endure the decade-long effects of loyalty contracts. I would have much preferred Kenny moving on from 2-3 of those ultimately bad contracts to lessen the degree of the rebuild. Yes, it would have been disloyal to a couple guys that won you cups but it would have been more loyal to the fanbase that pays the bills. I say this as a 40+ year season ticket holder. Regarding Stammer, the biggest problem is not that Brisbois moved on from Stammer, but the way that he did it. That contract offer was indeed insulting to a future HOF-er.

It's hard, I understand what JBB is doing because you have the young core that has time left to win again and keeping stamkos hinders that. Sign him then others will have to go. There is a valid point to telling Stamkos they will build around you and you can stay a bolt for life but you have to take a major discount. Remember that jagr asked to be traded from the pens because he knew the team would be terrible if they kept him with is contract.

With 32 teams and prolonged careers these days, nobody should expect to stay with one team for their whole career. What was embarrassing was the offer from Tampa. They should have just told him they were moving on in the first place. The problem was that Tampa wanted it both ways. They would have re-signed Stammer if they couldn't get Guentzel or an equivalent. That being said, certain players have done similar things to their own team. It's a business, stop thinking with your heart :)

Tampa made one of the biggest mistakes ever in letting Stamkos go. They're going to feel really bad once Stamkos lifts a Cup in Nashville.

Nashville isn't lifting anything. Stamkos' and Mars' best years are behind them. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see Stammers numbers drop sharply in a year or two. But you guys are a hell of a lot more than two aging players away from lifting a Stanley Cup. Look what Edmonton did - two goals away from winning a Cup, and they got BETTER. Evander Kane will have surgery on his hip and sports hernia and will be LTIR'd for the season, but will be back 100% healthy for the playoffs. How does Luke fox cover the leafs for a living and the guy is out to lunch on the contract talks. Domi didn’t take any less to stay in Toronto? On a prove it deal, the guy was one of the best value contracts in the league and signed for less than a million more while still in his prime. When Marner was out, he stepped up to the plate and actually made Marner look expendable as a set up man. And no surprise, he’s a perennial top 20 primary assist man in this league. Marners upside over Domi is his defensive game/pk speciality and yet the leafs had a bottom 10 pk in the league. Give your head a shake luke

Calgarys offense was the issue and yes the coaching was a problem too. Daryll sutter should never have been brought back. I'm not a fan of any of the Canadian teams but even I can recognize that sutter was not the answer there. Ownership also has a part to play in all of this too. Their owner is meddling in everything and ruins absolutely everything.

Before this last season he had played nearly 60 more games than every other goalie from 2020-2023. He got worn out. He went to 3 straight cup finals

What I would like to know is why Marner a pro athlete looks scared shitless playing in the playoffs. I think something is going on man behind the scenes. Something is seriously wrong with the team. They do not look like elete players in playoffs. Nylander maybe only exception . Regardless of whatever is going on with Marner the guy wont be traded....too tough to pull off now and teams probably dont want to pay remaining contract...would like to know the number though. That said I predict Leafs will have an off year and not make the playoffs. Called it first.. Nothing to do with Domi signing though.
