*This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*

Picked a month ago, in the middle of Winter, a Sportspal 14ft, Wide Transom canoe in bright red color. It's only about 50Lbs now, so super lightweight to carry or store. Carrying capacity is 850Lbs, and woven seats, are comfortable and keep you dry. Awesome!

Great looking canoe. Be careful with your battery though, the terminals are extremely close to the aluminium crossmember and could easily short out, which would be a bit too exciting.

2018 now.... Recently I had a conversation with someone close to me in my family and the topic of a Sportspal Canoe came up. I can tell you... this design of canoe and the company has been around a very long time and in my opinion... this is probably the best design I have ever seen for a canoe. Very stable canoe! Thx for the post here in 2018 looking back at your 2011 post!

The difference between the American and canadian is the thickness of the Alumium,.032 aircraft Al for American and .022 marine grade for the Canadian. The american sportspal is a tougher cousin, Love the video but I have to point out 1 thing. The battery post are bare and are close to the alumium bar which will conduct current thru out the boat. I would suggest insulating these post away from the bar.

I have a very old Sportspal 14' canoe, and its very similar. It has a sail, which I have not set up. I don't like oars, so gave those away. I use a kayak double ended paddle. I think mine weighs closer to 41 pounds, amazingly light. It has developed a very slow leak near one end, which I have epoxied and almost eliminated, I need to go over the keel and near the ends again. Looks like different construction - mine was formed into its shape with 3 slits along each side, just like a birchbark canoe would be made to create the side's curves. those have epoxy sealing them. This design looks much better, with its smooth curves. But I did pay only $250 for mine! hahaha!

Meyers/Radisson. i like canadian made stuff thats why i like radisson but in the end i dont care these are great outdoors men or women canoe's. My father has owned his 12' sportspal radisson for 25 years and it still works great, My self i just picked up a 14' radisson sportspal used for $100 bucks.needs a little work but hope to have it ready for summer. just picked up my new sponson today for it . will post videos of restoration.

Thanks I am currently rebuilding it. I'm from California so everything I order takes time to arrive. It would be nice if they had just one Sportspal company here on the west coast. Happy fishing from Cali!

Not sure if you understand how many people have died by trolling after falling in.. I realize you are relatively close to the shore, just thought I would mention this happens an awful lot and some people have a kill switch, or a strong line they can attach, in case they fall in..

I ordered bench seats for my previous one, which was a 12 ft. They come with instructions on where to mount them. You order the seats based on the length of your canoe and you count off a certain number of the metal structural ribs...that's where you will drill the holes ( 2 on each side). They can advise you further/better if you contact Meyers directly, but that's the jist of it.

Nice I use a poly old town guide 147 for solo fishing, and family fun. Slam it into rocks, drag it down launches. 900lb carrying capacity. I use it for hunting on the Delaware river. 2 guys, a bear, 2 deer, turkey, whatever floated on down the Delaware. I pay the price on the 79lbs portage weight.

Thank you for this review. It's excellent. I am getting ready to purchase. I am trying to decide on whether to buy the 12' or the 14'. I notice you mention that you have had both. Any advice? Fishing with two people. Is the 12' that cramped. I am 5'8', 150 pounds. A little worried on whether or not I could handle car topping the 14' by myself. Also, I notice that the Sportspal is thicker than the Radisson so I think I will go with the Sportspal. Excellent review.
@AlwaysB4You11 жыл бұрын
There is a big difference in stability between the two...thats first. I am standing nearly the entire time I fish in my 14ft, whereas in the 12ft I could....but it was tedious balancing all the time. Actually, when I fish with a friend in the 14ft canoe who is 230lbs....we both stand...its that stable. Plus in terms of space the 12ft is very tight for two people to be casting in...you have to be very conscious of your surroundings. The 14ft allows me (170lbs and a friend 230lbs, plus a marine battery (50lbs) trolling motor and a ton of gear to be held safely. The 12ft couldn't manage. If you don't have much gear no problem...if you do the 14ft is again the way to go. The only downside I can see would be the additional weight and maneuverability. I have a Thule rack and put the 14ft on my little Honda Fit by myself 90% of the time. Its not easy per say, but if you don't have a rack yet, they have options for mounting one end on first and then swinging the back on board. I would definitely recommend the 14ft over the 12ft, but your particular vehicle and rack situation will dictate if its an easy loading process or a major pain.

Thanks. You should find decent availability in that area. If memory serves the main distributor is in the Great Lakes region. The 14' will work for two adults and a child, but also be aware they make it in a larger 16' size as well.

Thats interesting about the capacity. Mine is rated at 650lbs as per the sticker on the stern. I notice on bwimarine's website the capacity ratings are higher than on Meyer's own site, where even the 16' model is rated at 720 lbs. The width is the same at 38".

Great review! how is it for paddling? I've read a couple reviews saying it's not easy to paddle.... also how has the longevity of the foam been? any disintegration?
@AlwaysB4You11 жыл бұрын
Yes, it goes straight, but because of the offset you do have to have the trolling motor turned a bit inward for it to track straight. Doing so loses some efficiency, but I've never thought of it as much of a problem.

Nice Video! I just bought a Radisson 12 foot pointed canoe in like new condition I only had it out a few times both paddling and rowing. It tracks well rowing, but you need to reach a bit for the oars from the forward seat. Paddling is is OK. Looking for a small trolling motor for it. I see where you had a 12 ft and was wondering if you ever stood in that one..
