Sporty's Original Flight Gear Bag

This is a product review of the Sporty's Original Flight Gear Bag. In my opinion, no other bag comes close in terms of effective use of space and organization. Unlike the previous versions of bags, this one has double stitching and metal connects and zippers. Your initials can be embroidered for an extra $10.00. The cost of the bag is $69.95 - worth EVERY penny. I highly recommend it. @Hike2BHappy I got them separately from Sporty's when I had their older version of this bag. They sell individual dividers of various configurations you can buy for around 10-20 bucks. They have Velcro that you can stick pretty much anywhere inside the bag since its made with the 'fuzzy' fabric - dividers have the 'hook' end.

Hey Brian, I have not used the VFR/IFR bags. IIRC, my instructor had one which was smaller and handy for a headset, an airport directory, some charts, and a few other odds and ends. This bag is great and very well made, but it is quite large. If you have a lot to carry this one would work fine, you can always get another smaller bag in the future and sell or keep this one. Your best bet might be to try the cirrus owners forum or the like and ask if someone has one who can let you know for sure.

@felipefreire0652 You are right it is rather big. Those smaller bags the size of headset are really nice too and can usually fit in the space between the pilot and co-pilots seats. I just throw this bag in the back seat and put the seat belt on it to keep it secured in flight. Might be a problem if you have passengers, but you can just tell them to hand you X from the bag. Makes your life easier! :)

Excellent review. I only wish there were similarly thorough reviews of the VFR and IFR bags too. Speaking of those, what is your opinion on them vs. the original flight bag? I'm a student pilot, so I have a lot to carry. It looks like the IFR bag is too small (although I love the built-in water bottle holder), but the VFR bag looks like a great size. However, it may not be able to hold a full size binder for 8.5x11 sheets, whereas the original flight bag can (as you illustrated).

I am a student pilot in need of a bag. Will this bag be too big for me flying around in a 152, or will it be perfect? also, any other bag recommendations? Thanks
