What's your favorite 'food brand mascot' video game?

Great video MrM!! I enjoyed a lot the DK&SuperAdventureIsland tracks 🎶👌🏼Marketing campaigns ruled at homes&provided us cool moments, now they're nostalgically treasured. Greetings! ✌🏼

Thank you! Yeah, it's funny how nostalgic we get about characters that were literally just designed to charm us out of our money. But we grew up with these characters as much as proper cartoon characters!

Thanks, man! Yeah, it's interesting how hard they tried to give Spot a video game career before they landed on Cool Spot

I know that cool spot was "a" game, I had no idea how much had spawned from one single red dot on a 7up Logo. This was really interesting and every time I watch one of your videos I tell myself this could be a Netflix series. This felt like a trip back in time and I loved it.
@AuthorativeMrM6 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's crazy. There were a bunch of commercial mascots that were crammed into video games, but it's funny how many MORE games Spot was in than pretty much anyone else. And 'Cool Spot' isn't even his last game!

Hiya MrMathews. I loved the California Raisins. I never got to play any of the spot games. I love that you used DKC country music I love that music.
@AuthorativeMrM6 ай бұрын
Thanks Ruby! I think DKC music fits the vibe of Spot games better than the music that actually appears in those games, lol

Oh wow, I had no idea there was a Cool Spot Game Boy game, much less three of them. I’ve honestly never played any of the Cool Spot games outside of on a Genesis kiosk at my local Sears in the 90s, so I’m far from an expert. Also, it’s bizarre that you talk about Global Gladiators in this video because I just randomly bought a copy of the game this week (had it as a kid). It’s…. fine. And I had so many of those California Raisins plastic figurines when I was younger. I went crazy over those damn things! Haven’t heard anyone mention them in decades so I extra appreciated that part of the video. Excellent work as always my friend!!

For some reason I still have all my childhood California Raisins figures ... except for the Michael Jackson one. I'm almost positive I had that one as a kid, but I tore my house apart looking for it for this video and I never found it *frown*

@@AuthorativeMrM Yeaahhh… I know how that goes… I had CIB versions of Rockman X3 and Rockman Zero that I never consciously got rid of but were lost during one of my many house moves throughout the past three decades. 😭

I love you. I never played Spot and had no idea it's a version of Ataxx. That one stole a LOT of quarters from me.
@AuthorativeMrM6 ай бұрын
I believe it. I love a good strategy game, so I was very pleased to find that the gameplay of Spot: The Video Game was way better than I expected (and not just a straight-forward clone of Othello!) The artstyle of Attaxx suits the game a bit more than Spot does, but a fun game is a fun game

I actually like Cool Spot more than Earthworm Jim and Aladdin! The 16-bit generation definitely had better games, but I think Cool Spot deserves maybe a little more credit and recognition than it seems to get

@@JoeyEsqueda I think it was Geoff Follin who did that one. He and his brother Tim are pretty amazing. I was hoping to be able to use the music for that version in the video, or at least mention who had worked on it, but I couldn’t find a place for it.

I've had Cool Spot on the Genesis for several years. I enjoy it, but I'll probably never complete it. I usually just play for a while until I get too frustrated by the blind, er, spots, or get lost in the house level.
@AuthorativeMrM6 ай бұрын
It's a definitely a frustrating game. I played all of them back-to-back while capturing footage for this video and I thought the SNES version was the best. But both versions have some really obnoxious stuff you have to get through.

That California Raisins NES game! I know the rom is on the interwebs, but I have yet to play it! I wonder how close it was to completion! 🤔 I only remember the Spot game on the SNES! I'm shocked there are so many more! Particularly on the Game Boy! The SNES version stayed with me... particularly because I remember it being a game I had played on a kiosk at a Kay Bee Toys back in the day 👌👌

As far as I know, the California Raisins game was pretty close to complete, kinda strange that they didn’t release it and at least try to recoup some of the development costs 🤷♂️

First time seeing Spot's Game Boy offerings. All I can say is Virgin really didn't know what to do with the licence untill they made their own game, did they? The puzzle game looks pretty decent, the other two, yeah, kinda meh. Talking of 7-Up, it would be great if somewhere along the line a GB port of the cancelled Fido Dido game turns up along with the SNES version that is still lost.
@AuthorativeMrM6 ай бұрын
They must have gotten the license and just been determined to make video games out of it by hook or by crook. The puzzle game is the best of the three of them, probably because it was an existing game that was already good enough to stand on its own. Thanks for making a video about the GameBoy version of Mick & Mack a few years ago. I think yours is still one of the few instances of it popping up on KZbin.

I had no idea there were three Spot games on the Gameboy. Ill be honest, even though you didnt like the platformers that much, i think the order is from eorst to best in this video. Thos puzzle games are just boring to me, even if the gsmeplay is good and addictive. Abd while the platformers don't look great, I'd rather play that style of game. And finally, Aladdin on the Genesis is excellent!

I don't necessarily disagree with you here. I'm a sucker for strategy games and I loved Othello in particular, so I probably liked Spot: The Video Game more than most (although I think it works best without Spot's involvement). And I enjoyed the console versions of the other two games. Cool Spot is unquestionably the best 'Spot' game
