I still remember wanting Super Mario Land 2 for my birthday in 1992, ended up getting a copy of the first game (which I didn't own but had borrowed off friends) and Kirby's Dream Land. Kirby was graphically impressive at the time and I recall beating it during recess the next day. I was obviously let down by that, by that time despite being young was super into RPGs that I didn't fully understand hence almost never finishing them, but did replay it quite a bit. End of the day I did enjoy it even if I didn't even check out another Kirby title until I picked up Super Star when it was new, a side effect of knowing that I would be stuck in the 16 bit era for at least another year or two, and fell in love with it.

I think if I had played any of Kirby's other games at the time, I would have really liked them. But Kirby's Dream Land was my only experience with the series for nearly twenty years straight, so I never understood how he had gotten so popular.

I'd definitely recommend keeping a look out for it. Considering its quality and pedigree, I'm surprised it doesn't get talked about more often these days.

Good, I was hoping that Trax would get a little bit more attention after this! I don't think HAL was much to Nintendo when Trax originally came out, but you'd think that Kirby's popularity would have encouraged Nintendo to maybe take a look back at some of the games that didn't get as much of an opportunity to shine, even if all that meant was adding it to the 3DS E-Shop or Switch Online.

Yeah, it's so weird that they did that. It's like they had to convince western audiences that Kirby wasn't some cute and cuddly pushover EVERY time they released a new game ... for like twenty years straight 😏

I haven't played Dreamland yet but I remember Scott playing it on our trip to SEGE last year. I remember we weren't in the air very long and he said "well I beat the game" 😂😂😂 So yeah lol He had nothing left to play and I was playing Castlevania order of ecclesia... Needless to say I didn't finish it on the trip 😂

Yeah, there's definitely a LOT more game in Order of Ecclesia, Scott should have grabbed TWO GameBoy games!

Surprisingly none of my friends were into Kirby. Nobody owned any of the Kirby games. As an adult, when I started collecting games again I got Kirby's Dreamland for Gameboy and it is not too bad. It is almost like Kirby fell into that trap of it looked like a kids game, however it was actually a good game for all ages. Thanks for the video as always. Cheers sir.

I don't think I actually knew anyone in real life who paid much attention to any of the Kirby games, but he definitely carries a bit more weight online, which is what ultimately made me decide to give the series another look.

Great video as always Mr.M! Trax needs to be revived for the Switch (2) a great concept that can be developed to the fullest with the technology at hand. And Kirby, well, Kirby is Kirby, every game is a fun one!

Absolutely, Saito! Trax could make for a really fun twin-stick style shooter. Its artstyle would have looked great even on the SNES!

Yo! Revenge of the Gator, Pokémon Pinball, and Kirby's Pinball Land are the reason I grew up loving pinball machines! Such fun underrated titles! I've always considered the Kirby series the "chill" Nintendo games rather than the "tryhard" games 👌 This was a fun retrospective of sorts: It honestly made me want to go back and play the Game Boy Kirby games. It's been quite a while since I've played them.
@AuthorativeMrM3 ай бұрын
I haven't tried Kirby's Pinball Land yet, but I've heard it's really good! I'd say Kirby's Dream Land 2 is every bit as good as Kirby's Adventure ... in fact, I think I like it a bit more because of the animal companions.

Finally finished watching this one, and found I've fallen way behind on other videos. Loved this look at Kirby and will have to try our Trax now. My story is somewhat similar: My first Kirby game was Adventure on NES, which I liked but found pretty easy. Since then I have been buying many Kirby games but not playing them. I finally played Dream Land last year and liked it though, so I have been meaning to play the sequel soon.
@AuthorativeMrM3 ай бұрын
I've definitely grown to appreciate the Kirby series much more lately, but my initial take from the first game was similar to what I later experienced with Trip World: a lot of style for a game with not a lot of substance. Although even now I find a lot of Kirby games to be pretty "same-y" I still like to play through one of the games every now and then. Hope you get a chance to check out Trax, I think it's definitely worth a look!

I have zero knowledge on the Kirby games beyond playing as the character in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Chalk that up to being a SEGA kid, lol.
@AuthorativeMrM4 ай бұрын
It's still not one of my favorite series, but I'd definitely say it's worth trying out. Kirby in the Forgotten Land on the Switch is probably the best game in the series I've played, but that's a bit like comparing Sonic Adventure to the "classic" Sonic games
@captainnintendo4 ай бұрын
You mentione that you think the original Kirby was too easy. Did you a have a chance to test out its hard mode? When I was a kid, I had to admit that I actually quite enjoyed that the game was a bit of a breeze. It made it somewhat of a comfort game for me to just sit down with and go on a little journey. I remember it took me forever to figure out how to defeat King Dedede. I thought those stars that appeared after his stomps were mere decoration. It was probably just pure luck that I ended up sucking one in xD From there on it was pretty straight forward. When it comes to the second game, I definitely prefer to play it on the Super Game Boy as it actually does have some dedicated enhancements like Donkey Kong had on it. The gameplay is ofc the same but a little twist to the presentation is always welcome.

@@captainnintendo Yeah, I played through Kirby’s hard mode a couple times. It was definitely more challenging, but less fun. 😕
