@@pedrosouza5270 I still don't get what's the end game when people try to mainly push their spotify. the platform itself always pays badly and it's also not the kind of platform that drives traffic to something else like a patreon, so what's left? having a big spotify just for clout and maybe that clout brings you something? I don't even think people really care unless you have more than 100k monthly listeners... it's a dead end platform

Spotify's financials are public. They've been funding their growth through investors. The results are clear. Their fixed monthly pricing is too low. DSPs aren't currently a standalone good business for investors (even for Spotify). The DSP execs are coming up, but Spotify as a business isn't that great. So yes, other issues (bots, exec pay, ghost writers, etc) are making it worse. But the bigger issues is that $10-$20 to access to all recorded music is not a viable business model. There's no way to make that math work with so many people becoming casual music listeners instead of true fans of a few. Not sure there's a solution that includes a middleman.

I'm not sure why music artists send all of their fans & listeners to other platforms. "Direct to Consumer" shouldn't be a new thing. Every single other business brings all of the customers, fans, followers, listeners, etc to their business. To their own website and email mailing lists. As a business owner (small or large), it would be insane to pay for ads, do content, and everything else to send your people to another's business for them to make money, get the customer lists and info, and for you to beg for pennies, if that. But that's what y'all do with Spotify, Apple, and other platforms. It's sad that a lot of music artists still think this way, but y'all are conditioned to think this way and stay poor in the process. A marketing class would help change your outlook. Just saying, as a music fan.

Bear in mind that model works for established artists. If you're a random making bangers out the basement you need something, else to gain the exposure necessary to cultivate that fan base.
@crnkmnky

@@jteeza100 It should be a hybrid model then. Use the platforms to build visibility and identify potential customers. But never be 100% dependent on them. At every possible opportunity, offer the fans yet another reason to come directly to the source.

@@eskaylation 🤔 If you _aren't_ trying to use your art in your business, why are you on this channel? Why is it offensive to take notes from the marketing people? Like it or not, this _is_ business. OP said to quit building that business on someone else's platform, and you responded that you've found a _new_ platform ("AI") to be dependent on. 😑

There’s a plethora of factors that these artists have to take into account that you’re not considering at all. Like a previous comment said, this idea may work for established artists, but understand contractual agreements/obligations, payola, and record executive power are all major reasons why a lot of artist don’t sell direct to consumer. It takes a lot more than a business class to understand this lol

@crnkmnky
@crnkmnky 27 күн бұрын
Good question. There are different ways to do it, with various companies claiming they can help. 🤔 Bare minimum: you setup an email list and a website, and promote them to your followers. With a mailing list you can directly send out newsletters, fanclub exclusives, progress updates, special offers, etc. On your website, you can setup a shop to sell digital albums, t-shirts, wristbands, USB music sticks, posters, branded guitar picks CDs, autographed drawings, whatever. You would still do a lot of the same social media tap-dancing to promote yourself, but then you'd direct people to online spaces controlled by *you.* I _think_ that's how it works…

It’s never been that easy for going direct to consumer, it’s possible to do everything in house if you want. Learn about copyright, learn about isrc, learn how to use metadata on your music. It really isn’t that hard, do some research and make little steps at a time and you can produce and distribute your content, highly recommended to step away from the big tech companies who are only in it for the money, once everyone is sucked dry they drop it and invest in the next orange to squeeze out.

Agreed that music is much different than acting. Musicians should be using technology to cut out the middleman, frankly. These days, you can take direct investment for production that you directly advertise for. You can sell music all sorts of novel ways. You can even perform a few more ways. The only people who need labels or specific platforms are people without natural appeal.
