Sir, I would like to recommend ball bearings or anything can spin freely to be installed to the screws holding the rubber bands. So that the tension can be distributed evenly.

If you have little pullies at the screws the rubber bands will equalize their tension automatically.

how long does the first grinding step take you?

It all depends on the hardness of the stone. Softer stones like limestone and basalt take a few hours. Jasper and quarts a day or two.

How long do you leave it run on each grit? TY

I run an hour on each grit because the polishing mashing is slow. Soon I will have a machine ready to do it in half the time
