Hey Chris, really enjoyed your video. I am currently on a waterspout hunt and have been trying to find good ways to try and forecast waterspouts but am a total novice. I have tried to sift through scientific papers and about as far as I've got is to take HRRR soundings and try and look for some of the basic favorable parameters but I don't have much confidence. That spreadsheet you showed here seems like it's exactly what I'm looking for so I was wondering if there was some way you could share it with me or link me to some info I could use to replicate it. :)

Hey Tobias, thanks! You’re on the right track. All that spreadsheet does for me is convert some temps from F to C, and calculate the deltas in EL-LCL and surface-upper air temps. I still have to plug all those numbers in manually. You can get them from the HRRR model (or others... look at the NAM for medium-range forecasting) and/or the SHARPpy soundings (both on the Skew-T plot and in the little table underneath it). If you want more info on the science behind it, check out the work of Wade Szilagyi, who’s research I use to make my chase forecast decisions. Remember that in most parts of the world, fair-weather (non-supercell) waterspouts are seasonal, usually occurring in late summer into early fall. I hope this helps. See you out there!

Cool video! I just filmed some spouts over Lake Champlain here in Vermont, with an air temp of -15F! First time I have seen this phenomenon over the lake. Check out my channel for the video!
