After our time at Zone 23 we spent some time working on our long range skills in the desert, learning some important lessons along the way.

Helpful hint: most people don't dress like flat white targets. Take a couple cans of spray paint with you when you set out targets. Paint a "t-shirt", hair, and a chin on your target. It will help you to learn to identify targets better at range. It's a real world skill that is often overlooked.

@@jimmybrodriguez Your logic on the stock choice seems sound. The lower the optic is, the more you'll have to roll your head to get behind the glass, which means a slimmer stock would be preferable. I see the magpul CTR's width is apparently 1.7". You think Luth ar's MBA-5 stock with its 1.8" width is 'close enough' to be just as servicable on your setup? Also, what is the height of your scope mount's centerline?

I have been getting frustrated every time I go shoot past 300 with the “eye box” on my RZR 1-10 in the prone. It never occurred to me my stock might be hindering me from staying directly behind the scope. I swapped the STR for a CTR and it feels like a different scope and I’m much more comfortable behind the gun. Thanks for sharing your experience.

You should come to Vegas and shoot one of our monthly 'Accurized AR' matches. 3 different divisions (you would fall in the Tac Light division, max 8x scope and only .223/5.56). Very similar format to PRS but targets are from 220 yards to 650 yards and its time-based instead of points. I started shooting bolt gun PRS matches but have grown to like these gas gun matches a lot more. I have a short video on my channel about a recent one.

Love your channel man! I’m currently working on my dream AR which is a Frankenstein mix of vltor buffer and stock, law folder, aero lower, Geissele 3G, DD M4A1 block 2 upper, LMT EBCG, and a dead air flash. I’m supposed to get a bonus soon and if it’s enough I’ll get the sandman s, and an optic. I was thinking LPVO for the longest time, but lately I’m reevaluating that idea big time. I think a good 3.6-18 like a mark 5, or a nightforce nxs 2-10x42 in conjunction with an offset T2 will provide the best functions for my needs. The new LPVO’s seem Friggin awesome but I’d still probably add an offset red dot so why spend all the money for an optic to go to one when I have a one offset already. If I did go LPVO I’ll do the trijicon SCO for the battery life. Argh I just wish I was rich and I’d buy all of em.

Are you using the sticky game changer as a rear bag as you displayed ? If so, that could be a huge portion of your issue. I ran a sticky for 2 seasons of PRS and it took me those two seasons to realize I hate them for anything except putting the sticky against an obstacle. NOT against the rifle. The stickiness when used as front or rear bag with sticky against the rifle just ends up locking you in the position you first contacted the rifle against it. Any small adjustments you make after the initial planting on the bag have a “rubber band” effect to them as the bag is constantly pulling the rifle back into natural position. Hope this makes sense

I stop taking people seriously when they talk about engaging targets past 600 yards with 5.56 in a real world application. It’s fun to shoot steel that far but anything past 300-500 yards the 5.56 is absolutely awful with terminal ballistics. It’s a great caliber in its envelope but that stops realistically at 3-400 yards for terminal effects.

You shouldn't be grabbing the stock with your left hand. Lean your face on the stock and let that weight push the stock into the bag. Then squeeze the bag or loosen to adjust your aim up or down.
@jimmybrodriguez
@jimmybrodriguez Жыл бұрын
Grab the stock and the bag together secured the two together which keeps the stock from sliding from side to side on the back or off the bag on some smaller bags. Overall it leads to a more stable platform vs just grabbing the bag. It may not be your jam, but it works for me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH-mh3V8o6iEbtk
@fubar1217
@fubar1217 Жыл бұрын
@@jimmybrodriguez The bags should have enough give to let the stock sit down into (the bag in the vid looks like the Game Changer or similar which I believe is meant to support a foreend rather than be used as a rear bag so it may be a little stiffer). Also, the stock would be "contained" on 3 sides with your shoulder, your cheek and the bag. At that point, there should be no side to side movement especially if you're loading the bipod. The fewer body parts that make contact with the gun, the less chance of introducing additional movement as you noticed with your thumb introducing pressure on the stock. But like you said, that's what works for me.
@fubar1217
@fubar1217 Жыл бұрын
@@jimmybrodriguez Just watched the vid again (seen it before) and noticed he grabs the stock together with the bag for more stability for follow up shots. Guess that makes more sense on a gas gun. My advice was coming from my experience shooting bolt guns. Either way, thanks for the vids! Before watching this video, I was considering getting the Magpul PRS Lite stock for my newly built 16" SPR but you make a lot of sense talking about getting closer to center line of the gun. I may still try it anyway as it'll ride a bag better than the SL stock I have on it now.
@jimmybrodriguez
@jimmybrodriguez Жыл бұрын
Ctr with a bag rider from arisaka will solve that problem. I tested the prs (not the lite) and wasn’t a fan. And you are spot on about gas vs bolt gun which is why I made my comment about being able to get away with stuff on a bolt gun that you can’t with a gas gun.
