White mold is bad here in Indiana. A lot of guys around here use a crop duster to spray for it. An air tractor AT-802 and that thing is a beast. Dad and I got to see it spray a small field 30acres maybe with woods on all 4 sides. He came in over the trees and dropped in like a fighter pilot avoiding radar and pulled up at the last second a few times, It was so freaking cool. I think he saw us standing outside our shop watching because before his last pass he flew over us, pulled up until he looped facing back the other way and flipped back over for his last pass. Its fun seeing them spray big fields but on that small tree lined one he was just showing off and that dude was GOOD.

Hi Zach, if you still read comments on old videos, I‘d like to know what you do for varying the active substances in your chemicals to prevent resistances? Is that something your agronomists ever encourage you to do? Because here in Germany it’s actually quite a big thing and we‘ve had a lot of success with it. In herbicides as well as in funcicides and insecticides.

Zach thanks for sharing I'M really learning a lot from your videos it amazes me how they can develop crop plants to be resistant to certain herbicides. As for the soybean aphids are they in the soil in the field or where do they come from I have dealt with aphids before on some ornamental and other landscaping plants. I'M like you I have problems pronouncing the names of the active ingredients in a lot of these products i don't understand why they have to make the names of the chemicals so difficult. LOL we use some of the same products you use for turn and plants the active ingredients are the same but they label and call it one name for agriculture and another for turf one example is Quadris we have the same fungicide to use one turf its the same active ingredient but its called Heritage and quadris is cheaper to buy than heritage but we can't use Quadris on turf because its not labeled for turf Crazy. Thanks for sharing and educating us . I really appreciate the time you and your reps take to make these videos for our education and entertainment. Have a great weekend. God Bless!!!

You’re lucky you can still use Chlorpyrifos a.k.a. Dursban, because you can rotate between organophosphate and a pyrethroid product so that the aphids don’t build up resistance to the insecticide. I worked with Dursban for over 20 years I believe it to be a safe product.🤓

Zach i think next year one of the things if you are willing to try is dropping some lacewing or ladybeetle (or assassin bugs if you wanna get semi dangerous) larvae into the fields at the same cost of herbicide and see how effective they are vs spraying (last i checked you can get several thousand lady bugs for a few hundred bucks)

@MillennialFarmer6 жыл бұрын
Jamie Barker we use fomasafen if we don't have Xtend (dicamba resistant) beans. It burns the beans a little and sets them back but its effective. Dont use crop oil with it when the weather is hot.
@joeslont75106 жыл бұрын
Jamie Barker u need a dicamba program
@MillennialFarmer6 жыл бұрын
Yes, dicamba is very effective also! When used correctly it wipes out almost everything (except grass, which kills easily with other things). Our Xtend fields are all very clean this year.
@jamiebarker30496 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I will look into the xtend beans for next year
@PaulsonFarms6 жыл бұрын
Another option you can use is cobra or cadet. They'll burn the beans much worse then flexstar but they also do a better job on waterhemp. We have pretty much all xtends but still spray them with the normal program without dicamba. In the second pass we'll usually mix in a generic flexstar and save the cadet or cobra to be used as a resuce chemical.

How is the whole soybean tarifs hitting the farmers across USA? Is pricer lower than earlier years? Does the goverment pay out the difference? I find it hard to follow this matter, media cover doesn't include a lot of numbers or cite sources. Any good pointers on where to keep updated would be apreciated.
@MillennialFarmer6 жыл бұрын
Bass Trammel our prices have dropped about 20% in the last 8 weeks because of them. Farm incomes will be much lower, yes. The government is going to pay us some small amounts to make up a portion of the difference but it won't be as much as we've lost.

My understanding is that chlorpyrifos is on the chopping block to be banned next. Thoughts? I'm in FL and own a golf course so a lot of these same chemistries I use as well and it's becoming a nightmare to manage certain things because of it.
@MillennialFarmer6 жыл бұрын
Matthew Watkins I honestly dont know enough about that to comment yet. My guess is it will be banned for vegetable use first. If it's truly harming humans and ending up on the food, then we need to come up with an alternative.

MN must be a nice place in Summer not to have an issue with pollination. We plant a month or longer after last frost to pollinate when we have 60 degree mornings resulting from our days getting to less than 13.5 hrs. Our high yield varieties (113-118 day) require 1400 DDU to fill after silk into Mid August to early October when mornings are down to 50 to 60 degrees. By doing this we can make 2/3 lbs of heavy corn grain per ear. I entered a field in the NCGA contest that 330 looks likely. Usually the Texas winner is 330 but 450 has been made. Interesting how crops are managed on Zack's crops.
