I guess the customer wanted a traditional 1960,s paint finish . Dred go steady when you machine polish it .If you get it warm with the polisher on edges it will melt and smear the paint but flat marks disappear instantly with compound .Even 600 wet flatting will compound back quickly because it's never fully cured like two pack . I served my time using cellulose paint 50 years ago as a 15 year old lad and was in my late 20,s when Glasurit 1st introduced two pack paint in the UK .Early metallics was cellulose single layer and once you got coverage you added cellulose blending clear on a 50% cellulose metallic paint 50% ICI blending clear . If it was a respray we flatted it back with 800 wet and dry till matt and then left it outside for 3 days . We then gave the car "kiss coats" of the same cellulose single layer metallic 20% 80% ICI blending clear thinned down 30% volume of paint and blending clear to 70% thinners . Another day in the yard outside and then machine polished .ICI blending clear wasn't UV resistant and that's why you added cellulose single layer metallic to it . The gloss level was incredibly and high end piano black is still either thermo plastic acrylic or cellulose. When i worked on Rolls Royce and Bentley in the 70,s early 80,s they was finished from the factory with single layer thermo plastic acrylic (TPA) even though every other car manufacturer was using two pack . Absolutely no clear lacquer was demanded by Rolls Royce .It was real tricky laying down a nice finish without the metallic floating about ( dappled look ) .

Great job on the Cellulose Rob as that stuff is not easy to spray and the finish you got is amazing👌 I learnt to spray paint using enamel then moved on to cellulose and 1K clearcoat🤭🤠🤦♂

Superb finish on that cellulose ,just as it should be. I spent 20 odd years as a professional car sprayer starting off with cellulose and prided myself on obtaining a 'gloss from the gun finish' at all times. I still spray as I restore motorcycles for a hobby and am in the process of doing a 1963 Tiger cub. Tell me, what brand of cellulose did you use as the old ICI Belco I used to use is no longer available ?
