I sprayed some car bumpers so I already have an air compressor, spray gun, filters, hoses, and couplers. Now I wanted to repaint the kitchen cabinets. I was told I needed another spraying system for hundreds of dollars. Nah, I just switched from a 1.4mm tip (ideal for automotive paint) to a 2.0mm tip. After adding some Floetrol, the thick Valspar cabinet paint actually atomizes out of the spray gun, cool! I got a decent finish in 1 coat.
@gazsto95103 жыл бұрын
Have you tried other water based paints,? they the same with a 2.0mm tip. I did think a 1.4mm was a little small for those paints, but appears to work with a small tip and needle in this video.

Great vid, thanks for that. I just used valspar furniture paint (needed no primer) through my HVLP setup with a 1.3 nozzle and thinned around 15% with water, it went ok but as i'm used to solvent lacquers this was a much slower process being water based. Even allowing for that it took days to harden and is still a bit grippy to the touch nearly 5 days after a coat! ... even with 20c constant moving air in my heated finishing shed! Anyway just thought i'd give others my experience with the material. It says on the tin 'do not thin' but it's hard to avoid unless you've a powerful AA or similar spray setup maybe. 🙂

very good vid mate, I like the fact that you stop the music when you are explaining things a mistake that alot of youtubers make and is bloody annoying for ppl who are hard of hearing like myself, but to play music as you do is great so well done

Hi. Thanks for trying that, it was me who mentioned it before. One thing I would say is that the V700 version of that paint is what I use and that has the advantage of self priming. Cheers

Thanks for an informative video. What is your ration between paint and water for the Valspar paint. Thanks in advance

Hi, I am new to spraying, just bought a LVLP with a 1.4 nozzle & B&Q Valspar Paint. Thanks for taking the time to make these vids. You mentioned mixing on your last video to look like cream, could you please tell me more using the measuring pot (IE fill paint to 40 then add water to 50 - as an example). Sorry to ask a question you have covered but would like to know how much water you use to at least start me off in the right direction. Thanks in advance :0)

Hello there .. so as a rough idea I normally mix 300 ml paint to 100ml of water... but this can vary depending on temperature pressures for spraying etc
@gazsto95103 жыл бұрын
@@lowesjoinery3031 I think that's due to the nozzle size being only 1.4mm, maybe 1.7mm -2.0mm would bring that down and give a thicker richer coat. Still needs thinning but 10% with maybe Floetrol can give a really nice flat finish.

Was it their waterborne lacquer? I find it to be a fantastic product. Been using it since it was introduced. Excellent product, flow and drying time. Also, I have found it quite effective to use my small Wagner 600 (diaphragm style airless sprayer) which makes short work on these type projects. You can dial the pressure right down to practically a whisper making control a breeze.

Dose your compressor keep cutting in I have a 50 lire useing lv gun don’t spray long befor it cuts in just need to no weather the 100 Ltd would not cut in as quick great vid

I have the same issue with my 50L twin piston compressor. The LVLP gun I was using absolutely hogged air, so a friend let me try his super cheap silverline 1.5 tip gun & it works a LOT better. Also make sure you have decent internal diameter hoses, 9.5mm at least. my main issue was the regulator fitted to the bottom of my gun, took that off and made a nice difference. if I can help any more, give me a shout.

I spray the Valspar Trade eggshell and get good results. It need watering down by about 20% or so.
@gazsto95103 жыл бұрын
What do you recommend for the tip and nozzle size? Appears the bigger the nozzle the less it requires thinning. Obviously also requires a higher pressure and recently adopted to use a pressure pot, with both conventional and hvlp guns.

i got a qtech stage 5 hvlp sprayer ... i sprayed to interior doors with 1.5 tips and zinsser perma white in satin ... i lightly sanded them down 2 coats 30mims between them drying time is quite good ... its a lot diffrence to airless have you ever tryed zinsser brand?

@@lowesjoinery3031 as the other poster writes above ... (a) valspar isnt farrow & ball indeed you go out if your way to say how different they are, the f&b takes 2 days to dry etc (b) your f&b video shows you diluting by 33% water ... but doesnt say what pressure you used. (C) nother if your vids says many people ask which compressor you use .. I guess no one cares what brand but we are interested in his many cfm are needed etc. .. you even say many people ask you .. but you dont answer it. .... Dilution (may vary for different paints ?) Pressure and cfm needed ... kind if what anyone trying to find out about how to spray (probably about to go.buy a compressor) needs to know. Thanks

@@davesmith9325 I'm amused that the content provider takes the time to repeat himself in multiple videos on spraying. But very important information like how much water and psi , we have to go hunt for. He's got painting skills. He terrible at helping with useful information.

Do you know if there’s much difference spraying something such as Dulux Trade Satinwood (which is solvent based). I’m new to spraying, just got my first gun and I’ve got some internal doors to spray. It would be handy to make use of the paint I’ve already got, obviously if it needs thinning (which I assume it will) I’d have to use thinners not water.. and for cleaning, but I presume apart from that the process is the same?
@gazsto95103 жыл бұрын
Did you manage? the only difference, which I am sure you will know by now, is the viscosity and thickness being much greater in water-based paints than solvent paints, although they both require thinning, unless your spraying at a much higher pressure, like Airless, or Air Assisted Airless.

Why do you not raise the cabinet off the floor on a small bench or table... Easier to spray and less chance of getting any crap in the paint off the floor...

Worst paint I ever used. Scuffs and chips like nothing else, extremely poor adherence too. Best use would be on scratch cards and parking permits. Quality spraying is impossible due to worst atomisation, darker colours don't cover evently. Agree one one thing it dries quicker than F&B but slower than most of other stuff. Everyone in the trade knows to avoid F&B, this stuff is much worse on the quality level of the product overall. On the scale 1-10, 2 would be generous.

When using water based paint if you're going to be spraying the same colour for two days running as you did with this radiator cover do you clean out your spray gun each time or leave the paint in over night. If you leave it in overnight how do you stop it from hardening off especially around the tip of the spray gun..... I always find it a bit of a chore cleaning the gun out especially when spraying small objects like your radiator cover and when I'm only going to be using the same colour anyway
@JamesSmith-lt5zz4 жыл бұрын
Clean it out it literally takes 5 mins. Tooth brush soap and water or lacquer thinner scrub pot run soap and water through nozzle. Brush air horns and gun body with soap or thinner. Don't had to take the fluid tip and cap off Everytime if enough is ran through it. Needle takes a second to wipe down or you can wind it all the way outoull the trigger now brush the exposed needle that toucbes paint obviouslly this is condensed so the next day after spraying you break it down complete. Still takes 5 minsto clean. If latex is caked on lacquer thinner easily removes. Many uses same ingredients as many fuel system cleaners and I use it for my Zippo fuel as well. For gas it's loop 1-2 oz per gallon
@JamesSmith-lt5zz4 жыл бұрын
If you can't spend 5 mins cleaning your gun after. Just go to spray cans and be able to throw them away or if your strapped by a bunch of paint guns and throw them away after each usel many $10 Chinese specials around
