Perfect!!!! We just lost my dad last month and he was an artist. Able to use multiple techniques and tools etc. Everything from paint to pencil. Portraits to professional signs. My dad was a huge lover of the Wild West. So to salute him I am making a old west themed cook station for my ceramic egg cooker. I made a table for it and so far so good. I am planning to try to make a small sign that I can attach to the cook station with his name on it. I am planning on surprising my entire family with an unveiling of it and a celebratory first cook on the smoker. Wish me luck! Thanks for sharing.

@Pyrocrafters3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! I use a Spar Urethane by Minwax, but it's not full proof. If it's outside in the elements, it will need to be reapplied at some point; just like a wood deck, the coating won't last forever.

I have a question. Why when I wood burn the burner gets stuck and makes dots when iam trying to make a line
@Pyrocrafters3 жыл бұрын
It could be a few things. First, what type of wood are you burning? Woods with lots of alternating grains (soft/hard) like pine can cause bumpy edges. Second, it could be the pressure you’re applying. If you push down too hard, it makes it harder to glide across the top of the wood. Third, it could be the wood surface. If it’s really dusty or rough, it may be hard to achieve crisp lines. Fourth, what tip are you using? Using a rounded tip can make it harder to get straight lines. A tip with a straight edge will help. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! 😊🔥

@Pyrocrafters2 жыл бұрын
Hey Princess, you can burn inside, just make sure you're near a window with a fan. When we lived in the burbs, I used to use two fans, one on my desk to pull the smoke away from my face and a second one in the window to pull the smoke out of the room. So it's possible to burn in an apartment with the right ventilation setup.

I've always loved arts and crafts, but now I can hardly finish something. Since Father's Day is soon, I was brainstorming ideas & thought of creating a big sign for his beloved hen/rooster sanctuary/barn. I asked him, "if he had a sign to put up, what would it say?" My sweet husband says, "A scripture babe....'As for me & my house, we will serve the Lord'" Point to my story...his response made up my mind....I'll be going to get all the things, to start & FINISH this project! I'm excited about it & can't wait for the challenges I'll face. Most of all, thx for your video, very informative & straightforward!!!🙂

You said to keep the heat low but my “gun” doesn’t seem to burn when set low - maybe just to cheap of a gun? Also, I did notice that when filling in your burning bit was read hot - is that because you were not doing an outline but filling in?
@Pyrocrafters Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Yes, I do tend to burn on higher heats especially when filling in. As for your pen/burner and the heat settings, are you using a brass tip burner? If so, they tend be on the lower heat side so it’s probably fine on the highest setting, but if you feel like you’re having a hard time controlling the result you want, you’re heat may be too high. One way to fix that is using a small fan on your desk and have it directed at your burn pen. The air will help control that heat a bit. Or you can upgrade to a wire tip unit like Razertip or Truart. The heat settings are much more varied and consistent allowing you to have more control over your results.

I have a problem when I’m done burning I like to color in but when I seal it with spray lacquer The color is Run I tried oil base pencils water pencils paints I don’t know how to seal my projects without running why I put my lacquer spray on my projects please help me thank you
@Pyrocrafters2 жыл бұрын
Hey George, I’m not sure why a spray would make your colors run. I’ve never had that issue with a spray. Are your colors still wet when you spray it? That might make it run. Also, try holding the can nozzle 6-12 inches away from your piece. If you’re spraying close to the wood and the spray goes on too thick, that might make it run too.

When you are tracing over the carbon paper, do you need to use a pencil or a engraver? Also is there a specific type of paint you need to use for wood?
@Pyrocrafters3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brittany! I use a pencil so I can see where I've traced, but some people use a tracing stylus. And the way the metal stylus feels on paper is a bit cringy to me, but it doesn't bother other people. Either way works, it's up to you and what you prefer. There are a lot of paint options, acrylic, water color pencils, stain, ink and so on. It depends on what look I'm going for in order for me to decide which method. I would experiment with different paints until you find one you like the most.

What grit sandpaper do you use to make the wood that buttery smooth?
@Pyrocrafters2 жыл бұрын
I like a 220 grit, but some artists go higher, 400, 800. I tend to burn deep textures, so a 220 works fine for me. If you want to burn light tones for realisim, a higher grit will give you a smoother finish.

Is carbon paper just tracing paper or is it a better option for this?
@Pyrocrafters2 жыл бұрын
Carbon paper is different than tracing. It has the black residue that comes off when you add pressure. Tracing is just thin translucent paper. Some artists prefer graphite paper, which is similar to carbon, but it’s easier to erase.
