No it has to do with most spray foam homes. They have water or insects that destroy the home. The insurance companies don't want to touch them

Thanks for the video. In fact thanks for all of them. I watched a bunch of them and learned what to ask and look for before I hired a contractor and as it was being applied. I had 2 outbuildings done with spray foam when we converted them to a different use. I have been very pleased with the results over the past summer and winter, and I wish I had the money right now to do my older house. Especially the attic and get rid of the crappy rock wool insulation that's up there.

I don't think it should be banned, but the manufacturers who produce the spray foam should make sure every cowboy with a gun isn't allowed to spray it without proper "logged" training.
@SprayJones
@SprayJones 5 ай бұрын
That would be noble, but there are skunks on both sides of the gun. One supplying and one spraying. So education is the best form of defense.

I don't think people should be allowed to ride ATVs without proper logged training. They should also have to get permits to ride a trail on a by use basis, even if it's their own property. Plus they should have to pay for an inspector to come out every time they ride to monitor their environment impact.
@kbmotorsportsonline
@kbmotorsportsonline 5 ай бұрын
@@SomeoneStoleMyHandle Clever... When idiots get on ATV's they hurt themselves. When idiots get behind a sprayer they hurt the family who lives in the home for generations unless it's removed. Removing closed cell spray foam isn't ideal nor easy. A inspector wouldn't be needed if the manufacturer of the foam made sure their applicators were knowledgeable in the product they're spraying. In easy to read bold print if sprayed more than 2" per pas it will burn up and or stink as an example and basic insurance isn't going to pay to remove it. Then maybe they'll put the spray foam gun down and go back to hanging improperly fiberglass? lol
@SomeoneStoleMyHandle
@SomeoneStoleMyHandle 5 ай бұрын
@@kbmotorsportsonline As someone who's been hit and landed on by idiots on ATVs, I'll disagree with your "they hurt themselves" assessment; however, my comment was still genuinely sarcastic, post installation inspections should be the only necessity, not training. Why should anyone have to pay someone who's had training for their labor if they can do it themselves and pass the same inspections?
@trevorstrutt1
@trevorstrutt1 5 ай бұрын
Yes it is supposed to be 2 inches per pas..but saying itll burn up anything over and stink is crazy..there is some closed cells that can be sprayed at 3 and 4 inches actually @kbmotorsportsonline

aluminum wiring is used to supply your house in most houses in the us. it is used in large sizes. i use it all the time for 200 hp motors where copper is at least 4 times as expensive if you can get it.maybe it's different in canada

I think you could have done a very similar analysis and concluded "is not going anywhere" in 1990 in regards to polybutylene pipe, and that ended badly. I don't know of any better approach. But sometimes it might be better to wait until something has been used out there for 30 or 40 or 50 years if that is an option for you. By then you can know if the product has problems (like PB pipe) and for best practices on installation to evolve and spread. And definitely pick someone with experience to do the job right.

Hey Mike, 1st off bless you gir your tireless work in this industry. Nuff said, hands down the hest go to source for information and education. So the thought struck me. Knowing that closed cell adds a factor of "structural rigidity", if thats the correct use of the term, is /has there been any " testing " on spray foam benefiting the home in cases of severe storms such as tornado/hurricane events or earthquake/ground movement events? Idk seems like a reasonable set of questions. Also would seem like a valid point of possitive nature on the side of spray foam if there's a positive anicdotal reference for the products . Hope that makes some sence to anyone other than just in my pea-brain. Keep up the good fight Sir. Crawford out 🙏🏻🔥⚒️🧙🏻‍♂️

Note - Aluminum wire can still used in transformers. Using it in general house wiring was about as smart as SPF shakes in Alberta.
@phildegruy9295
@phildegruy9295 5 ай бұрын
I agree with the general statement but aluminum conductors are still used, mostly for larger sized (Disconnect to panel, A/C, Electric Heat, etc.) wiring in houses. Before the early 80's, aluminum conductors will absolutely corrode as they were not AA-8000 aluminum even if coated with antioxidant compound. Lessons learned the hard way. The code today requires AA-8000 for all aluminum conductors which is to be used without antioxidant compound. AA-8000 will not oxidize unless installed in a highly corrosive environment which we all know is against the code anyway. Some manufacturers even prohibit antioxidant compounds being used on their aluminum conductors and it is only permitted for use in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

I have one question Mike. I am located in New Jersey. Watching all these building vids here on You Tube, of course it's important to build as air tight as possible. However, I'm led to believe that it's important that the walls are vapor permeable so that the walls can dry to the outside. If spray foam is used, are the walls still vapor permeable where they can dry to the outside? Thanks. You received a shout out on Stud Pack video as they defer to you as the expert.
@SprayJones
@SprayJones 5 ай бұрын
Billy, There are 2 envelopes happening with a wall. The first is to the outside to control water ingress and allow for drying (to the outside) of water that may get inside. We call that a drainage plain. The interior side is to be airtight and watertight, vapor diffusion is 2% of the water inside a wall whereas air leakage is 98%. So when it comes to SPF we want air and water tight on the inside, while outside we need protection, drainage and drying. Watch the fake news series video #3 on vapor barriers and the single video "are the studs a vapor barrier". These will answer in detail what is going on.

Depends if the chemical sticks or not spray a small area wait for it to set and check the cohesion of the foam to the material. If it’s good, it’s good. Also there is a specific spray for galvanized metal not sure what it is exactly called

Foam is just too good - at both insulating and sealing - to go away. Its’ one weakness is its’ extreme flammability. (Fortunately the ease of applying drywall solves that problem). Another issue is the skill and expense required for proper installation. It’s not something for the guy with a pickup truck a few guys from the Home Depot parking lot.
@SprayJones

Hi Mike...Not for nothing (please don't block me like some) this has been banned in many areas for some very good reasons...!!! First let me validate for those actually trying to learn about this topic from those that actually know from both seasoned experience design/builders (me in this case with 40 plus years in only traditional, natural and historical architecture) and those like you that make a living from "selling" foam insulation...WHICH...is not a bad thing, per se, but honestly many (not all) in your industry have an agenda to sell this product... "Industry standards" mean little considering the industry lobbying that still goes on. Many materials have had "industry standards" like DDT, Cloridane, Asbestos, Talc, etc that all had the "approval" as being good and safe at the time of there use and application in or on architecture. P.S. I still like, even love hard form asbestos material like the shingles, and related that are both virtually fire proof and have a service life well in excess of 150 years or more. They are safe and have little issues...IF...the archtiecture/builder knows what they are doing. Sadly we can't get these materials any longer in first world countries... The issue (mainly on wood architecture) is the trapping of interstial moisture damage that foam encapsulated wood can and often does suffer from. That is not a guess but "real world" experience of removing these foams in just my work after the 15 to 25 year mark and the irreversible damage it does to wood and related natural materials. This is why foam insulation are being banned more and more often on historic restoration projects. Simply put, it does not belong on wood directly...period. To end on a positive note, that is not to say that foam does not have its place in architecture...IT DOES...and is improving all the time including botanical base (aka natural/sustainble) foams that will be coming on line in the next decade...BUT WILL NOT...still be recommended or condoned for natural material like direct wood incapsulation...

Engineers specify that ccSPF is installed to manufacturers specifications. Remember that engineering is the application of science to solve a problem. As long as things are being done to the process, there is nothing wrong. Except for fluffies, who rely on emotion and social engineering to make a decision.
