Love to see you guys carrying on a proud Chi-town tradition. Back in the seventies we had, shall we say, a much larger quantity of the 'paht' seeds available to us. And, I dare say, a strictly North American landrace cultivar to boot. I remember taking a 2lb. coffee can full on epic roadtrips throughout northcentral Illinois spreading the seeds along the pre-Roundup roadsides that were already teeming with diverse plantlife. Keep up the great work guys.

@@mephik We used to call it "Johnny Reeferseed". It was a thing we did in college (Michigan State). There was a preserved forest area just barely off campus, past a scary-looking windowless building that we called "Section Zero" -- a name we picked up from a New Gods comic book. There were lots of trails there in the woods and we'd find clearings and spread seeds.

In 2021/2022 I had an entire gallon jar full of paht seeds. Likely hundreds of thousands. They ended up spread out between Oakley and Lodi California. In ditches, marshes, parks, flood basins, and creeks. Theres a small island just outside of the Big Break Marina across from the SS minnow. I tossed tens of thousands of seeds there alone. Haven't been back though

When I was a youngster I ended up with a shoebox of seeds from all the Colombian I was smoking. I put them in the bird feeder that hung from the magnolia in front of the house. The birds really enjoyed them. One day though, my mom said "I want to show you something". There were a bunch of plants growing under the bird feeder. Oops!

I notice that white waxy stuff when I work with Bismark palms. They're an everglade palm, but they're being used in the southwest deserts where I live now. The wax helps them withstand 120+ summers here, and they grow almost twice as fast as the washingtonias and brahea. I've been worried about them for awhile after I saw them went from being an occasional thing u see here and there to being one of the most widely used landscape palms now (at least they aren't queen palms).

Seed bombs made from seeds, clay, straw, compost about the size of a golf ball, allow to dry enough to stay together and chuck them to various locations. We used to toss them from the car along Rt.1 near Kennet Square, Pa. just beyond the mow zone next to the wood line. Amish farmland. Not much traffic. Asparagus galore. This is the NE corner of Maryland. Susquehanna. If you ever find yourself there, take the river road below the Conowingo Dam. Rt.1 The headwater of the Chesapeake Bay. Eastern woodlands rainforest. Steep river valley. Very biodiverse.

The first time I've seen american goldenrod was in croatian wetlands, growing in the same habitat as the delicate Pinguicula alpina and creating dense monospecific blocks of vegetation that smothered everything else. ''Symphyotrichum Pilosum''.......Now I know what these are and there are millions of them blooming along the roads in southern Georgia. I always learn something cool from you. You are correct that Cannabis is usually not aggressively invasive. The wild stuff that invaded the midwest is mostly of Turkish origin and was dry farmed in it's native range. Our prairie country with it's abundant rivers and decent rainfall was paradise to these hardy Middle Eastern strains. Our wild hemp is from strains carefully selected to be non psychoactive. There are feral hemp strains that are very psychoactive, with some like Dakshinkali sativa from Nepal and the Uzbekistan indica comparable to modern hybrids , up to 15 to 20% THC content. Both of these and many other wild weed strains are cheap and easy to internet. Nice river you got there Chicago...Be a shame if some of these bastids got loose on ya.😃

Haven't seen a cannabis seed in many years 😢 The Symphiotrichum and all the Solidago have all withered and gone to seed in north Georgia. We've been pretty dry, rain wise. Seems it was colder at the end of October when I lived in Rogers Park late 70s. Too bad we can't grow legally here, hemp was a big crop in the past. Always good to see you and Al improving the hood 😊
