To my fellow do-it-yourselfers out there ... we just finished resurfacing our countertop with Spreadstone and it has totally changed the look of our kitchen. The video gave us all the facts we needed to do the project and it really was as easy as the video made it look. Came down to breakfast this morning and walked into a brand new kitchen with a stone countertop. We are super happy. Amazing result for less than $150. If you're thinking about doing this kind of project, I say go with Daich.

My kitchin and two bathrooms all have the same type pf Formica countertops. My home was built in 1995 and the countertops are showing their age. Mostly in the kitchen. Was just looking for a video for getting rid of stains, but watched this and find myself thinking that I could do all three of my rooms. Noticed that this video is over ten years old BUT my local Lowes still has this product in a variety of colors. So will give it some thought but having all the tools I'll need and the incentive I will be planning this project out. Thanks.

I just want to say I did this on my 1980s formica kitchen counters and it turned out fabulous! No one can believe it's a coating that I myself applied. I did alot of research on affordable refinishing options and at less than $100 this was by far the best choice. I followed the directions closely, watched this video a few times and the project was very simple. I originally wanted to do Spreadstone on my patio but lacked the courage for such a big project. I am so glad I tried the countertop kit

Just used this on my old Formica counters. They were a black marble pattern with a matte finish that sucked the light from my kitchen. Hated them for ten years so when I found this I was so excited. Looked easy to apply and a much more durable finish than faux painting. I absolutely love, love, love the results!! Easy to do for one person. The real magic happens on the second sanding step. Two coats of top coat gives a nice shine. I plan to use the Daich Countertop Clear Coat which is an epoxy top coat you apply 7 days later to get a really smooth durable finish. Great product!!! Only recommendation, scrap the brush totally and get a better rollers for the top coat. Definitely want to get an electric sander and extra sand paper. For backsplash and edges I wrapped the sheets of sandpaper around a sponge to make it easier to hold since I have arthritis in my hands.

We moved into a great 125 year old home with the ugliest kitchen counter imaginable. I thought I'd try this before ripping the counter out and building an entirely new one. It turned out lovely. I was, frankly, amazed. It's a great product and can really save those 1970s laminate kitchen countertops.

I've just used this product on my 20 year old kitchen benchtops. The application was a breeze and is really sturdy. I love the final result and highly recommend it. I used a finer, artist type brush for the detail around the sink and tricky bits. I also used a better quality brush than what was provided for the clear coat. Otherwise, brilliant product and very good kit provided.

I highly recommend Daich Coatings. I used it on all laminate counters in a 1993 Class C RV and it changed the look of everything, and is very durable. Very easy to apply. Only a primer coat, which is very heavy and thick, then the stone coat, then clear coat.

This product is fantastic! The kit comes complete with all the necessary tools, the directions are simple, the video is very helpful, the steps are easy, and the finished job is excellent. It took me just over a day to make my old beat-up counter look completely new. My counter had both a wood backsplash and a wood trim piece along the front, and the Spreadstone went over these perfectly---now it looks like my counter is just one seamless piece of stone. I saved about $1000, but my friends will never know it (unless I tell them about this great stuff, and I suspect I won't be able to keep my mouth shut). One of the best home-improvement products I've ever used!

You're very welcome. I wrote the review just a day after finishing the job, and can now say that the color of the surface (oyster) has aged into a beautiful buff color and the clear coat has fully cured into a basically bullet-proof surface. The only extra thing I did was to put several extra coats of the clear coat around the sink trim, just to make sure that the tiny seam was well protected and fully sealed. If I were to do it again, I would probably remove the sink (I was lazy). Anyway, I think this job just helped me get another 34 years out of my marriage, because my wife is beyond thrilled. I hope you guys get onto the Fortune 500 list for inventing this stuff!

Easy to go on, layered on, sanded and sealed. Take your time sanding and sand to the smoothness level you prefer. Everything is water based so its easy to work with and clean up. Cures fast and hard. I just completed my countertops with this product and it came out absolutely fantastic! Well worth it! My only advice would be to throw away the rollers they include in the kit and buy better quality ones. The fuzzy ones shed. And for the clear coat smoother ones work better. I used the oyster color and did 3 coats of the stone and the sealer. The 3rd stone coat I did mostly with a brush. I swear if they used a pour over epoxy it would look like granite. It really fools the eye. I also removed the sink to do it rather than taping -it really makes for a more professional look. Don't be afraid of this it's as simple as they say. Sanding was where the magic happens and it took less than 30 minutes to do that step. I have easily 18 feet of counters. Would recommend this product 100 percent!

From a plumbers point of view, it's best to remove the sink and faucet. This will ensure uniformity where the coating passes under the fixtures. Also, if you decide to change the faucet to a different style in the future, you won't be left with any exposed, unfinished surfaces. Finally, this will also allow you to coat the edges of the cut-outs, adding waterproofing.

Good observation , cause cheaper sinks can't be fixed equally all around , so there is possibility that water can pass under the rubber or sponge which is used for sealer...

I ordered this product and I live in Florida, it took a week to receive and that's good fast service and it's FREE shipping. I don't know what G Griffin is complaining about they had EXCELLENT customer service and answered all my questions professionally and with courtesy. In fact both my Aunt and Uncle ordered the product and received the same great service. My Aunt lives in Florida also and my Uncle in California. This product is heads above the Rustoleum product and much less $$$. It was also easier to apply and the result was fantastic. Countertop transformation in one weekend as they promised. I am considering using the RollerRock product they have for my Garage floor but that will wait until I have time to de-clutter. Thank you Daich Coatings! for a professional product at an affordable cost with excellent customer service.

This is one of the first DIY projects I ever did and it was very easy, this video helped a lot! I refinished my kitchen counters about 3.5 years ago and they are still holding up well after heavy daily use! The only issue I’ve had is that the clear coat stains easily if a bright food is left on it too long, and it doesn’t do well with heat. If I get a stain on it I scrub it off with a magic eraser (which strips off the clear top coat) and I re-apply a layer of top coat ever 1.5 years or so to keep it strong.

I just used this product. I was going order 2 kits to make sure I had enough to do my kitchen. I'm glad I didn't. I had enough left over to do both bathrooms too. All things considered, I'm happy with how it came out. I used 36 grit sandpaper to make sure I scratched it up good enough. I did very little sanding after I did the coating. All it took was a light sanding to bring out the colors and I think it will last longer by not sanding most of it out. Also, the video did not mention removing the tape. I suggest using a razor blade to help removing the tape. I pulled a bit of the coating off around the sink before I realized I needed a razor blade. I fixed it with a q-tip, no big deal. And yes, if you can lift or remove the sink that would help. I'm wondering if putting a new coat of sealer on it every year would help it last longer. Any thoughts on this ?

I'm very happy with the product. Although I would say power sanding is a MUST. I started for 10 minutes with hand sanding then said forget it. The power sander knocks any roughness down and it's as smooth as laminate now. Also be careful with taping. This goo is very hard to cut through if you are cutting your tape lines off and can tend to leave a rough edge.

Quite frankly, if you move into a home and you have lovely plans for redos, sometimes you can do this to freshen up and clean y our place. You may need an HVAC or new yard or tub. In in the finest of places. So, that's a ton of equity. Choose your upgrades and prioritize. In 3 years if you have a mortgage or big sale you can go for your dream counter. They are expensive and young families and rent homes also can use this technique. So thank you.

I haven't done the clear coat yet, but these are my tips and suggestions. (Note: I did not remove the sink; instead, I meticulously taped off, and trimmed the edges with a wallpaper cutter.) * I used Frog tape on the painted surfaces, and 3M blue tape around the edges of my stainless sink. (The Frog tape wouldn't stick to the stainless.) * I wished there were three short stirrer sticks included in the kit. It's a cheap add-on, and would have prevented my scrambling for them "mid-stream*. Otherwise, I really appreciated the tray, paintbrush, roller frame and roller refills included in the kit. * I used wood filler (not water soluble) for my patches. No regrets. I was concerned about spackle patches raising because the kit's products are water-soluable. * Though I followed the primer instructions to the letter, I ended up using more of the primer than I expected. This is probably a user error -- I was concerned with the coverage over many patches. And I really worked at evening out the surface -- the stuff dries really fast. * Ok, this may have been an interpretation error, but on my first pass with the primer, I did ALL the areas recommend be done with the paintbrush, and then did the roller areas. NOPE, DON"T DO THAT. Work in sections, doing the paintbrush parts first, and then the roller areas. You'll have a smoother, more edgeless finish. * Paying attention to the instruction video, I didn't wait 24 hours to sand after the second stone coat -- I waited four hours. I started sanding the top edge of the backsplash manually with 120 grit sand paper. While the results were satisfactory, it would have taken me a lifetime to sand the all the surfaces. And I was confident that my *regular* orbital sander wouldn't be a help on the vertical surfaces, and moreover in the corners. So I went to my local Menard's, and picked up an orbital DETAIL sander for about $25. Best money I could have spent. I knocked off the high stuff on the horizontal surfaces of the backsplash and vertical edge of the counter top with 100P sandpaper. And then manually sanded them with 120 grit. As for the horizontal surfaces, I started with 80P sandpaper to knock off the high stuff, and switched to 120P. (I worked it this way in sections.) No regrets. The smaller SANDER detail tool took care of the corners with a combo of 100P and 120P (including behind the faucet). And really facilitated the sanding around the sink edges. I had to repair only three small edges doing it this way--very minor re-work in the scheme of things. * Because I wasn't able to clean all the primer and stone coat from the tray provided, I picked up another tray during the same Menard's run for the clear coat. I really want a clear(!) coat. * On about 32 sf of counter and backsplash, I used a little over half of the primer, and only one can of the stone coat. Even following the instructions to "x" coat, the speckling wasn't as even as pictured in the sample online. That's OK. The stone coat looks natural, with darker and lighter areas. * I vacuumed and wiped down the stone coat with a damp cloth in prep for the clear coat. Sweeping and vacuuming were not enough to clear the dust. (There will be at least 9 hours of dry time before I apply the first clear coat.) So far, I couldn't be happier with the results. I will update this post after doing the clear coat. Even with the small inconveniences noted above, I would recommend this product. I'm preparing to put my home up for sale, and am doing improvements to minimize buyer objections. Replacing the counter with even stock Formica countertops, even including the cost of the detail sander, would have cost more than 4x this solution.

My friend just finished doing her counter tops which I saw today. She used 3 coats of this and 4 top coats of sealer. She never sanded between coats and it is not smooth at all. It looks to me like it has bubbled between coats, but she said that is how it is supposed to be. Is it supposed to feel textured and not smooth. Is this a trend to have rough counter tops? I am really curious. It will be very hard to clean without a brush. God bless

Looks like a nice product, but all of the products of this type that I see being applied are being done on countertops with some kind a "bullnose" edge. Does anyone know if these kinds of products can be used on countertops with a "right angle" or "hard cornered" edge? And if so, how do you get enough of the product to stay on that edge when applying?

Hi Camsway. The SpreadStone product is an actual stone surface that is being applied onto your existing laminate (Formica) surface. This results in not only an attractive speckled granite appearance, but very high durability as well. SpreadStone is also very simple to apply, since it is rolled on like paint. There is no need for creativity, time-consuming techniques or complicated tools. The SpreadStone product is an easy premium quality surface that's very competitively priced. Thanks.

I have a black-tiled kitchen countertop and backsplash that I would like to resurface, changing the color to a medium grey. The tiles have bonded with the drywall and removal is not an option. Can this product be used on tile? How do I prep the tile? What product is best used to fill in the grout lines before spreading the stone?

Called the company. They were very helpful. Yes you can cover tile countertop w /grout lines. They sell a product called Elasto Loc that provides a surface that will allow the base coat to adhere properly . Used thinset to fill in grout lines before applying 2 coats of the Elasto Loc. Then proceed with the kit provided.

Curious how your product holds up to just regular kitchen grease that eventually will get on the surface. I used a similar product a couple years ago and it was kitchen grease and even the oil from hands that ruined the clear coat finish.

Do not be afraid! Have faith in yourself. Maybe ask a friend to help you. You gain confidence by proving that you can do something new! Start on a small thrift store table outdoors, and see how talented you are. There is plenty of material for a small experiment first. Then you are ready to do the kitchen.

can this product be used on a tile counter-top? I sure hope so
@DaichProducts
@DaichProducts 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cherylee, yes, it sure can. To apply to tile you would need to roll on a coat of Daich Elastolock first to bond to the tile, then you can proceed as normal. If you want to get rid of the grout line indentations as well and have a totally smooth surface, you would need to fill the grout lines with a cement patch material first and make the surface as smooth as possible before you coat with the ElastoLock and countertop kit materials. It is actually far simpler than it sounds Cherylee. If you have any further questions, our customer support team is here to walk you through the process to ensure a great result. Thanks for considering Daich Coatings!

After using this on my old countertop, which was cruddy laminate with a wooden trim backsplash board and a front wooden trim piece, I can report that the product bonded very well with the wood and now the whole thing appears to be a completely seamless stone countertop. I expect that using Spreadstone over 3/4-inch marine plywood would work just fine (you should verify this with the manufacturer, though).
