90kph is the limit for an actual everyday use, due to aerodynamics. Our guys who do 90+ experiments (109kph GPS is the record so far) report that the headwind becomes a wall completely changing the rider-wheel system behavior. Undoubtedly EUC companies know that very well, so watch as their marketing buzzwords will shift from speeds to other aspects of their products.
@ZorgKirill

Did they do that while standing or sitting? My standing record was 86km/h, pretty windy. Maybe it's possible to squeeze a little bit more if sitting.

People should be seeing this as a good thing because once we have a "limitless" wheel manufacturing can be focused on making a fully put together and consumer friendly product. Not that every wheel will need to be at the peak of performance but we can have distinct categories and there won't be so much fighting about who has the best performance.

honestly considering some of the motorcycle and bicycle accidents that I've witnessed, and some of the dumb things I've seen extremely lucky people get away with, as well as some of my own personal close calls involving other drivers, there definitely needs to be some careful consideration to limitations by design. and of course there also needs to be consideration for the perspective of the non-EUC community. The last thing we need is some sort of witch hunt against EUC by the general public because of the poor decisions of a few idiots who don't have any self control. I say "we"... I don't even own one yet, but I definitely want to, and I really don't want them to be outlawed before I can even ride one, or worse yet after I've already spent the money on one. in fact I'm surprised there already hasn't been legislation to include them in the same classification as ebikes etc... requirements that they have to meet certain standards to be ridden in traffic

I feel like I hit the bigtime. I only got to ride the Lynx a few miles. It was a blast. I also remember sending you a "What's up" about the V13 from a parking lot after you said we are only fast in Cali because our open roads. Didn't get any real miles on that either.... but I did enjoy it as well. I hope the true potential of the Lynx and V14 are both unlocked. I know the EX30 is about at its limit. I broke 65mph on that beast. Looking forward to crashing a new gen of wheels.

I can't imagine many scenarios where I would really want to go much faster than 45-50. At a point it's just not that fun dealing with that kind of wind resistance. I can totally get it for racers doing short spurts, but all I personally want is the ability to deal with potential vehicle speeds on non highway road systems which mostly top out around 45. Otherwise my preferred riding is generally off-road and trails where I care a lot more about torque than top speed

Any wheel capable of reaching 90km/h with a safety margin is more than fast enough. You'll go there probably once "to see" but will spend most of you commute going 50-60 max. That's what I did in my beginings, but now I notice that i rarely go to 70 at all on most trips and I would absolutely give some speed for more torque ( I don't mean torque access, I really do mean torque, I routinely make my master skip some magnets under braking and I'd love to know that there is a wheel that won't let it happen).

Honestly? The progressive tiltback on the v13 where you cannot actually physically overpower it sounds very cool. I mean it's basically simular to a car: everything enabled you are safe, turn stability control off and you are on your own. Same should apply to eucs, where the wheel just doesnt allow you to go faster until you enter race mode.

Thanks for the vid Hsiang. Crazy. My first EUC in 2019 was a 20S, 84V. 18XL….Now we’re exactly double that with the 40S 168V GT. Can’t wait for that voltage to double again. That would put EUC’s on parity with Tesla voltages for some serious Blade Runner action!

The difference between an EUC going 50mph and one going 60mp is just the length of the blood smear left behind when the rider cuts out, or otherwise has a malfunction. As a commuter I only care about safety, waterproofing, and range. 35-40mph is plenty of speed for me.

You mentioned Gogoro in the video. Do you think it would make sense for a company to design an EUC that uses the gogoro swappable batteries? It's got a long history of durability and performance, but would that pack form factor work for an EUC or is it too blocky?
@OWGAC
@OWGAC Жыл бұрын
that battery is not really the right shape for EUC, but I can totally see an EUC company makes one that is. If you look at all the recent wheel release, all their packs are roughly the same size! the biggest advantage of the gogoro system is that you constantly swap your batteries and it is always being monitored by the charging station.

Id like an all weather wheel, and the more I think it over the lynx seems to be the best fit out there.

Great video Hsiang - That Lynx looks like the best overall wheel so far for street, off-road, looks, weight, suspension and probably has enough speed and range for most riders ... have you tried seated on that wheel and is there any bluetooth? ... Not a deal breaker for sure. A wheel that tops at 60mph ... for me ... gives plenty of head-room when my speeds hang in the 25-35mph range. Wonder if Hydrogen batteries are on the horizon for EUCs.

Imo going over 70kmph on EUC with regular traffic is just insane. Remember breaking distance at such speeds becomes INSANE which means it is unsafe (not for you - for other participants of traffic, who don't want to be hit by speeding EUC). Though Lynx seem to be very good balanced wheel with a lot of safety headroom. Begode - as always, in panic took some garbage from backyard and assembled something with better parameters "on paper" and removed reasonable safety limits just to be "the best"... we'll see next cutouts, firmware fuckups and shit quality.

Higher voltage doesn't necessarily mean faster. To go faster you need to draw more power. To draw more power you need a bigger battery pack. You can arrange a battery pack with cells in parallel and series for higher voltage and less current, or higher current and less voltage (W=VI), the resulting power available remains the same. If you want more power then you will need a bigger pack.

The new higher voltage wheels need to be treated with extreme respect..Something that riders need to be very aware of is that DC Voltage at higher values..ie 120 volts and up at higher amperage are literally lethal and can very easily kill someone. Frankly, 168 Volts is very stupid. Some years ago I worked on a vintage 140ft motor yacht that had a 120 Volt DC electrical system..sadly we had a crew member very seriously injured by taking a shock from the system. Treat these wheels with great respect, especially when working on them.

Great video, and thanks for bringing up controversial topics related to the deluge of disorganized designs that are new to the market. {tl;dr. I'm more interested in USED wheels because of this... even though the V14 has potential.} The wheel company that gets my business has "non-proprietary" swappable batteries, non-proprietary pedals, no pads whatsoever (most people just get custom pads anyway) and maximum aftermarket shock/suspension compatibility. If these companies cannot collaborate in order to grow the industry and overall customer base, then it's unlikely that any of them will succeed in the long term. Until then, I'll continue to support the EUC community by purchasing only used wheels. Wasting money on incremental evolutionary changes only creates an environment where consumers will stick to their tried-and-true wheels; mostly because their batteries are model specific, which is neither profitable for the manufactures, nor financially sensible for most riders. A video (or fifty) on the cost versus value of USED wheels would be welcome. This type of video (which has dozens of subject possibilities) might be valuable to the EUC rider community. We all have wonderful stories about how giving and grateful our relations have been with people within our community; and this type of diversity in content may encourage loyalty that would encourage use of affiliate links, when the 'design-volatility' in the marketplace subsides and buying a quality, long-lived EUC becomes more rational. {The V14 is a step in the right direction but it should have had 8 battery modules insted of 4, and the suspension should have been hydraulic in the forks AND linkage in the rear- making the first dual suspension EUC. Lastly, there is a good design rationale behind having two independent suspensions for the same wheel... basically the system can be set up to optimize use for two distinct ranges of use; one for drops and sharp hits, and the other for plush street cruising, for example.}

Wat about practicality? I absolutely love to see to what extremes people can take an EUC but for acceptance by the general public I believe we still haven't seen the perfect EUC. * The first big obstacle, to be accepted by insurance companies. Perhaps it is better for now to avoid the need for insurance completely. Perhaps it will be generally accepted If an EUC is seen as a nothing, as roller blader or to a normal person without any devices. That might be possible by keeping the speed of an EUC below the fastest typical speed a healthy young person can sprint, which is about 15 mph. Yes I know this is slow compared to what is possible, but it's quite fast compared for a person running 2 miles to the train station every morning. * The second obstacle would be safety. For what I can see the only way an EUC can be made safer is by making the wheel bigger as well as lighter. Even suspension would help with navigating pot holes and bumps. Most importantly the motor in the wheel will have to be designed/tuned not for speed but for power at low speed. An +18 inch wheel built as light as possible with lots of power and suspension to overcome bumps, but tuned to coast no faster than about 15 mph, that's what I would love to get.

Just something you should change, the statement that you have managed to waste another 15 minutes of our life, I don't like that statement. Yeah I know it is supposed to be sarcastic and funny with a comic effect but damn, my brain doesn't take it that way. That is the con in almost all you videos, otherwise great work on euc content.

A $7k US tax-credit is available at 7.2kWh battery, which is only double Sherman's battery. This rider wants to go touring on EUC, but as big as Sherman is to Taiwanese, it's still way too small for US. This rider pushes Sherman Max's weight restriction and only gets 70mi (~100km) on its tiny 3.6kWh battery - insufficient for touring. Scooter weighs 220lbs (100kg) and has to be picked-up occasionally, so why is 220lbs too heavy for EUC? Everyone knows 3.6kWh is best-in-class, so why not produce a 7.2kWh, tax-certify and sell it for $9k? Who among us wouldn't pay $9k (with uncle-Sam rebating $7k) for such a EUC? Leaperkim would then double their per-unit Sherman-profit, plus an extra $1k on each unit. It's win-win.
