The ruched loafers you’re showing look to me to be what I would call drivers. I realize that drivers have a sole than runs a little bit high at the heel, keeping you from damaging the back of your shoe at the pedal. I have always worn drivers as a comfortable run-around shoe that is just a bit more polished than a sneaker. I must be really old, because I seem to have at least one item from each category in my closet that is coming back in style. What goes around comes around. Totally agree with you about wearing the loafer you like.

Hi Kay, I have learned from you (thank you!) that I should think about the season before we get to it, but here in England our winters especially over recent years have been longer and springs colder (while our autumns are warmer and wetter), then suddenly we get some hot days and we're into summer clothes, so for me spring fashions have usually been a bit adrift from reality. I'm still wearing my wool berets. You gave us advice a while ago to try to get used to seeing ourselves in hats. I was going to give up but with your encouragement I persevered and last Sunday a younger lady at church complimented me on my beret and said not everyone could pull off wearing them but clearly I could! I was SO amazed! Thank you again!

I’m a fan of many of the trends for spring. I do have a few favorites. I love wearing a boho dress in the spring and summer. Pink is one of my favorite colors so I can’t wait to add a few more pink items to my wardrobe. I’d also like a pair of silver sneakers, they are adorable! There are no “wrong” styles or colours, just “wrong-for-me” styles or colours. I know myself well enough at 70 years old to know what suits me and what doesn’t. For example, some shades look chic and wonderful on some gals (chocolate brown, yellow, anything with a greenish undertone) but look awful on me. On the other hand, I like black, and the “jewel” tones suit me very well, but might be a bit overwhelming on someone else. How lucky we are to have and make choices. You do you!

You look so pretty in the green outfit. I’m actually very fond of my barrel jeans. They are petite and are the perfect ankle length. I wear them with ankle boots that fit under the hem in the winter and look forward to wearing them with ballet flats, loafers or sandals in the spring/summer.

Oh how I love hearing your say you are going to take a pass on some of the trends. Yes! Every year some of us say “NO” to a trend and it is a good encouragement to hear you say no to a few things that aren’t a good fit for you. Some no’s for me are wide leg pants (not a good look for an apple shape), trench coats (it never rains here and so that is never on trend where I live), half tuck (again, not a good look on an apple shape), and ruched loafers (I just don’t like that look). A surprising “yes” to navy (as a life long wearer of black, I find myself eager for the softer look of navy this year). Thank you for searching out ideas and sharing them with us.

I will definitely be wearing soft pink. It’s one of my best colors. I will also enjoy wearing navy. It has always been a good neutral for me. The barrel jeans look great on you because you have the height to balance them out. But for older women (I’m 74) who have lost some of their height (used to be almost 5’ 2”, now only 4’ 11” - thank you degenerative scoliosis!) they are far too “concentrated” in the curve of the barrel to be attractive. So I must stick to the straight leg. As far as loafers are concerned - keep ‘em coming!!! I absolute love them! They are so comfortable, plus I just consider them a casual or dress casual classic. My first round with barrel pants/jeans was 1981. lol. They were simply called “ baggy.” Loved them then; love them now. The mocha color won’t work for my coloring at all. I need clear colors with yellow undertones. Will embrace the pale pink with a lean toward salmon. Just bought F & E color petal which works beautifully. This video took a lot of time on your part, and I really enjoyed it. Spring is on the horizon.

I just got a trench in from Quince and absolutely love it. Just the right weight for me - not too light, not too heavy. And the construction is most impressive. It has lots of nice details. I really like the idea of a new style of jeans. I feel my jean collection could use a new item. I love a slightly wide pant that’s got a slight crop. I’m short but my legs are long and it balances my looks a bit. I am all in with the slightly fancy blouse. I saw one I like on the Chico’s site, I’ve got to go in store to see the color in person. Agree with the loafers. Personally, I think it's just a way of the shoe companies to get us to buy more. Rouching in, buy those. Rouching out, buy those. Rouching back in, so now we need to buy those in new on-trend colors. Next will be back without the rouching. In new on-trend colors, of course. It's how they stay in business.

I totally agree. And I would bet money on the fact that 999 people out of 1,000 wouldn’t even notice if my loafers were ruched or not. Similarly, I have several men’s shirts in my closet (including Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger, some from charity shops with the labels still attached) because they are well-made and give me the slightly relaxed fit. How many people would even notice that the buttons are on the “wrong” side? And who cares if they do? 🙂

I would like to make a suggestion to older, petite ladies like me, who like to wear an elongating vertical line and v-necks, but don’t like to show too much neck. Button up shirts with the top couple of buttons undone, Johnny collars and even polos give you the vertical line without revealing too much skin. I love a popped collar and sometimes a small silk scarf, but however you do it, you still get the vertical line and less skin. If you tuck the shirt in, or at least the front, you get longer legs and a waist. For a petite, these things can matter. I love your channel so much. I know you are taller, but I never feel like your style suggestions aren’t inclusive. Keep it up.

Love this video. Do you ever look at Johnston & Murphy for shoes? I also buy from Lands End and find their clothes somewhat on trend but also the shoes are very comfortable. I like the idea of the gathers in the loafers because I have a wide foot and sometimes have to buy shoes a little longer to get the width and then the shoe will slip. I avoid loafers but the gathers might be a game changer for me. Hate the barrel jeans but I got a pair and they’re ok. I’ll stick with skinny jeans because I can. Some can’t. Or shouldn’t. Haha. I agree about Lands End but their jeans are nice. And their bathing suits. I’ve been thinking and I know what I don’t like about barrel jeans. I was a second daughter and had to wear hand me downs until they were too small and when my ankles were showing badly that’s when I got bigger jeans. I hated wearing clothes that didn’t fit and that’s what they remind me of.

I was not a barrel denim fan. BUT I pulled out some casual pants I bought a few years ago and tried them on. They are barrel shaped. Not an exaggerated barrel, but I guess I have adapted without realizing! Still, I am not planning on adding more barrel shaped pants. Great video, Kay!

I love skinny jeans on others. I adapted them to slim fit jeans for me. My legs are better looking in those. I’m still thinking of bootcuts I may get the cut crop tiny bootcut ones for summer. Hi Kaye. Love watching the trends, even if I am a very slow adapter😂. I struggle with jeans of all shapes, they just are not comfortable, and I guess at my age comfort is key. I think it is the case with all woven fabrics, so chinos etc. do you have any other suggestions? Also i note from the comments your viewers are quick to express opinions, that is good, but… a few months ago there was a barrage of comments of folks who did not like the half tuck, and I haven’t seen you wear it since. Has it gone out of fashion? I struggle with the front tuck as I have a pronounced belly, as well as a herniated belly button so I liked the half tuck. Any comments. Thanks for the video.

No, that partial tuck is still a good style hack and I wear it frequently. I tend to do a full tuck a lot, too. Viewers can complain all they want about the partial or front tuck; it’s not going anywhere and I will continue to wear it. It’s a great way to define the waist and get better proportions.

Purse charms feel a bit juvenile or cluttered to me, but I love barrel jeans, wide leg, boot cut and well…all jeans! And I just bought sculpted straight legs jeans. They are not skinny, but a slim silhouette. I have boho, suede and fisherman options in my closet. Glad I didn’t purge too deep!

Hi Kay…Interesting video. I have not been able to find belts in the stores in my area. I do like the coastal look for summer. I think I’ll pass on the boho look. I remember it from the 1980’s. I like navy for spring and soft pink is nice idea. I’ve always liked polka dots and associate them with “fun”…spring and summer.

PS I HATE Barrel Jeans. It makes our legs look as if they are deformed by Ricketts. Won't buy them or wear them and I suggest ALL ladies should give them a pass. The only attention they draw is because other folks think there is something "wrong" with your legs and therefor they will stare a little bit longer, or take a second glance. Ignore the influencers who insist it is a MUST have item to complete your wardrobe.

How would you wash anything with feathers? I own a pair of barrel jeans. But I haven’t worn them out in public. I wear wide leg jeans. But my favorites are straight legs. I have loafers, but all the ones I have aren’t very comfortable to wear. I tried to wear my black patent leather loafers around the house. And they hurt my feet. I have wide feet. So I changed into some boots. And they were comfortable. I like the shorter tops with my high waist jeans. I’m overweight and don’t look great with my shirts tucked in anymore. I love the green pants and the striped shirt. I might have to buy those pants in blue. I’m most sure I can carry off the green.

Ahh, I would love to. But I’m personally just not very successful with shopping Walmart for fashions. They always seem to be out of my size and I just give up trying.
