Hi. I've set four drowners with footholds, lure and castor mouds . 2 Dukes #3, 1 vintage Oneida Victor Jump #4 and Victor Long spring #4. When I checked them next day I found 3 traps sprung and empty... What's going on? Have You an idea?

Well it could be a couple things. Could be that the trap is not bedded well. I’ve had a few like that before and from my experience it was either the pan tension was too light or it was a back foot on a smaller trap and just didn’t make a good catch. One benefit to big traps (ts85, mb750 etc) is that they will encompass a beavers back foot, but they are heavier to lug around. Front foot catch is my target everytime. Also you can put the pan tension pretty high on a beaver, at least 5 pounds. That will help with toe catches and misses.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

@@plainsmenoutdoors3095 thanks. I'll try. But only Dukes have adjustable pans. These older vintage Victors don't. And I'm affraid these pests are now well educated and will avoid smell of my lure. I have to try so called hail Mary sets. BTW, in one trap I found catched ...frog :). Hind foot catch.

Update from the front line. Another two misses... 5 misses in a row in total. No catches in footholds at all. In vintage Victor #4 catched... beaver's nail or claw, don't know how to name it. But fortunately 2 snares connected. 2 pests less. Even trail cameras miss beavers, only some ducks had been recorded messing around traps. I wonder could they fire some of them.

@@TheStonedstone yes those pesky little ducks will set off traps, that’s happened to me before too. Awesome about the snares! Snares are the best!
