Thanks for showcasing parts of NZ not all get to see. Kiwis included. Ignore the people who say yr showing secret spots . Nothing is secret in NZ😂. Did you do any canal fishing in previous episodes ? Come again sometime, the trout might be even bigger 🤝🏽👏🏼👍👉🏽💥🐟

Thanks a lot for the encouraging and nice comment! Tuva had one big canal trout take her fly in episode 1. Can’t even remember if we put it in the video 😅

You guys are awesome, my new favorite fly fishing channel!!!!! this ones for Tua: I learned this the hard way when I first started catching big fish on the fly rod... I lost many fish when I didn't them on the reel immediately. Your first job once you have the line tight, is get that "spaghetti" on the reel, don't be afraid to even walk away from the fish to get line off the ground, then quickly on the reel. The line is always a problem until it's safely on the spool, a big fish will always hurt you if you have a bunch of line management issues. Let that reel drag work for you as soon as possible! Hope this is helpful, you do a great job!!!!

Thanks for the comments and good advice! They are easy to break off when fighting them through your fingertips, we have both experienced that the hard way! Thanks a lot again

Yes, they are, frozen tears are unfortunate after loosing a big fish, but we learn from them!!! I remember all the big one's I have lost, but not all the big ones I have caught...I actually think they are the blessing that keeps one coming back, and getting better at the craft, they are truly a blessing in disguise!! Cheers!!@@slowrisemedia

Have you tried a braided loop at the end of your fly line ?.
@slowrisemedia
@slowrisemedia 6 ай бұрын
Haha, like one time 10 years ago and it came off 😅 the manufactured loop on the line is pretty slick, we like that. But a nail knot is perhaps even slicker

Beat us to it! It’s a big river sweetheart?
@slowrisemedia
@slowrisemedia 6 ай бұрын
The river is like 5km to fish. In New Zealand it works so that if you are first to the river you should have those 5km to yourself. That’s why we go behind him, and not walk upstream of him. We were to late.

Your videos make me smile SO much! Thanks for that! I'm heading to NZ for the first time ever on Sunday... for almost 4 weeks... camper van... both islands. Taking a fly rod/etc... going with wife and 10-year-old, so will not get too many opportunities, but I will try to get a couple fish (early mornings on my own... evenings where we park/camp). I'm assuming I will find some fish? Interested to see your Norwegian videos too... I finished high school there... 94-96... Kristiansand and Stavanger. Cheers!

What an amazing comment! That made us both smile too while driving up north. We are sure you will get the opportunity to catch some amazing fish! What is amazing is that there is big trout in almost all streams, rivers and ponds in rid island. Really incredible! Even the smallest of streams are worth exploring

Nice! Great camera work. I also found a lot of other anglers this time in NZ, even in one place where we had never seen another angler in the fifteen years we have fished there!

Maybe it has become more? But to be honest we don’t complain. It’s so much water to fish. So much good water. That’s how it is, it’s totally fine. It only sucks the moment you have hiked 1 or 4 hours to get there 😅

I'm enjoying your videos, and like you, I love the slow rise takes! I've never seen a fly rod like the ones you use. What is that fly rod?
@slowrisemedia
@slowrisemedia 6 ай бұрын
So glad to hear that you enjoy it as much as we do! The fly rod is from a European brand called Arctic Silver Flyfishing. They are quite unique we like them a lot. The purpose of tge unusual handle is that the blank can bend inside the handle (its hollow)

At 3:12 or so, I tie a butt section in, so I can take more time with the nail knot to make it super smooth, and I glue it, which makes it even smoother, and then you definitely don’t need to worry about the tag end. A blood knot is then applied to the new leader.

Hey bud no-one here weighs fish in kilos great filming though! intrigued by the erm, bumblebee I remember being at a sidestream/spring creek next to a big river and there were loads of bumblebees floating down but the trout avoided them - didn't eat 'em!! ...caught two six pounders - oh sorry 2.75144 kilos...on a small nymph and a cicada!
@slowrisemedia
@slowrisemedia 6 ай бұрын
Haha, thanks for that! Well we use kilograms so it makes sense to us haha. Interesting! I have never actually seen a trout eating a bumblebee when I think about it. But I haven’t seen one earring a cicada either 😅 2,75kg is a damn good fish ;)
