I'm kiwi, of Maori decent (& Irish) who grew up with tales of the Taniwha & have had an experience of my own. Supposedly in earlier days we had fairy-like beings who taught Maori how to weave fishing nets 🍃

I'd recommend the "documentary" New Zealand : Skeletons in the closet. It may not be true but is definately fascinating to think about 🙂

I have a fairy 'encounter' story😀 When I was about 11, my best friend (let's just call her Sarah) and I were obsessed with fairies and gnomes. We had these little gnome figurines that we would talk to constantly and we often played games about going to fairyland. One day, I went to Sarah's house for a sleepover. We decided to make fairy traps (which was a common thing we did), to see if we could catch one. I will point out though that the traps were harmless and usually just consisted of an old shoe box filled with shiny items and a bed. (We wanted them to fall asleep and stay there until morning). I actually have a video of us making fairy traps on my other youtube channel (which is called Aqua Fairy) and I think the video was called something along the lines of 'Fairy Traps at Sleepover'. Anyway, we made the trap as usual and we left it in her bedroom. We kept the window slightly open so that they could fly in. Then she came with me to her guest bedroom because we didn't want to sleep in separate rooms. We chatted for a while and talked about how cool it would be to catch or at least see a fairy. Around half an hour later, when we were almost drifting off to sleep, we 'woke up' to hear what I can only describe as jingling bells. They sounded like the type that you would hear on Santa's sleigh. We both turned to eachother and gasped in excitement at the thought of a fairy being nearby. I am two years older than her so in my head I was thinking that it could just be someone carrying something that had a bell on it but when I peered outside, no one was there. After a few minutes, the noises stopped and along with my joy, I couldn't help but feel a little creeped out. Just when we thought that it was over, we both saw darting lights outside the window. They were in the colours of green, orange, red, blue and gold. Sarah and I watched them in silence for a while, mesmerised. After that, the jingling sounds started again (louder this time) along with the flashing lights that looked like bright, glowing orbs,, before finally all the activity stopped. In the morning a fairy wasn't in the trap, but a few things looked like they have been knocked over. I am 14 years old now and Sarah is 12. We don't see each other much anymore as we go to different schools and she has new friends. I miss her terribly. I doubt she still believes in fairies, but I do, and I often think about that magical night, where for a few minutes, we both saw what seemed to be fairies.

I think this might be one of my favorite True Fairy Encounter videos to date, the one with the Gancanagh was somehow beautiful and chilling at the same time. (Also I just recently found your channel and I'd just like to say thank you for doing what you do; I've exhausted pretty much every source for fairy folklore be it audio or video, so thank you for uploading regularly AND for narrating these stories

The time has come Our guide has entered. Lead us to the sacred place Where all the fairies come to travel Across the veil 'Tween time and space. Have no fear My fellow wand'rers. Listen close and listen well. The time has come To travel onward The thinning veil will not long wait. - PS: I haven't forgot about sending that story of my hubby's fairy encounter. Life has been crazy busy, but I hope to find some time soon to send it to you. I will be including pictures from the actual location. I cannot wait to hear what you think. As always, I cannot wait to see what you have for us this time. Please post more videos soon. I love your work. Your are by far my favorite scary story narrator on KZbin. It seems so strange (in a good way) listening to tales from where I live! As a pagan, I've had some strange experiences with, what I assume, to be the fae folk. As someone who needs to experience things to believe in them, it's been my strange encounters that have led me to believe that there is more to this world than what most people believe

Thank you, Scary Fairy Godmother, for the great, inspiring stories again! I love your channel. I'd like to thank you for including that story with the male/male romantic fairy encounter. All the romantic fairy stories seem to be fairly heteronormative. I guess maybe I'm not as safe from the Ganganagh or sucubi as I thought. If there's other Queer fairy encounter stories, that might be a fun category for a video. Thanks for being inclusive. Love your channel! 🌈
@ScaryFairyGodmother
@ScaryFairyGodmother 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm not sure if I'll be able to; these stories of fairy encounters are quite rare as it is, heteronormative or not, which is why I can only really do one video a month. But if I ever do gather enough stories, I will. If you ever have an encounter or know anyone who has, be sure to send it my way. :)

Oh dear...Taniwha is pronounced Taa-nee-faa. The 'wh' is like the english 'ph'...it makes an 'f' sound...Maori is Mah-or-ree but said fast, so it almost sounds like 'mouldy' with a soft 'd'. Also, the mythology classes Taniwha as giant monster like beings who turned into things like mountains, big rocks, other landmarks etc, according to the legends.
