I’m glad you mentioned the similarities to Batman. Spring Heeled Jack does actually remind me of a Batman villain- the Scarecrow. He was all about fear, scaring people and was a tall, imposing figure, which is interesting. Great research and video!

Yes. And the acclaimed writer Philip Pullman had that idea as long ago as the late 1980s, in the form of his children's graphic novel entitled Spring Heeled Jack (which of course does not mention Batman for copyright reasons. But the parallels are obvious. And Pullman was obviously inspired by some of the later "Jack" related penny dreadfuls.)

This has been the most in depth video of Spring Heeled Jack I've heard, great research! It's complex and I changed my mind whether he was a supernatural being or human, still not sure but he does sound rather alien, a bizarre case for sure.
@eeriesvault4 ай бұрын
It's on odd one. I am leaning towards "human", with the majority of attacks seeming to fit with that. I think the ghostly versions and animal versions might have been subsumed into the lore by way of the penny dreadful stories and reported in the papers as fact. But who really knows?

Not sure if you consulted Mike Dash's paper on Springheels--it's online- but take a look if you haven't. There was also a Springheeled Jack active in Baltimore, Maryland in the Highland Town area in 1941. This was reported in the Baltimore papers. It seems he got around. You also did not mention that Todd Slaughter portrayed Springheels Jack in the movie The Curse of the Wraydons. Take care and a many thanks! Jesse Hlass

Could even be a case of extreme 'hysteria' as people do like to elaborate and add to odd claims, even today you can see this in videos and cgi that some people post up. Just my two cents here, but I don't think it to be entirely out of the realm of possibility that Jack was indeed a member of the aristocracy, and was in concert with others, in possession of an unknown, exotic technology which they had acquired from a prior, much more technologically advanced, older civilization, and that this technology is what enabled Jack to do these seemingly inhuman, supernatural things. This technology could have had some form of holographic projection also, which enabled the appearance of various life forms, in an exaggerated context, thus contributing to the fear factor. I believe it is possible, though admittedly theoretical on my part, that this was meant to test the prototypical form of this reverse engineered technology....This seems to be rather outlandish in terms of theory, but I trust, is no more outlandish than Jack himself.
@rackthejipper53043 ай бұрын
I was thinking that if Jack actually existed, he could have been a magician who had worked out ways to perform illusions on random people. For example, the breathing of flames could have just been the spewing of alcohol being lit by a flame, which would explain why he asked for the lit candle and was carrying a lit torch.
