Four days and three nights backpacking in Dolly Sods Wilderness the last week of April 2024. Day one I hiked the Red Creek and Big Stone Coal trails to Lion’s Head. The next day I followed Big Stone Coal west to the Breathed Mountain Trail where I camped near a beautiful bog and stream. The following day I hiked via the Red creek and Fischer Spring Run trails to Rohrbaugh Cliffs. Finally the next day I hiked to FR19 and picked up my mountain bike cached in the woods and headed back to the Red Creek trailhead. It was a beautiful trip in the southern half of the Dolly Sods. The Dolly Sods is a high plateau within the Monongahela National Forest that features diverse landscapes including wind swept plains heath bogs, spruce forests and is similar in character to regions of eastern Canada. Forty seven miles of trails crisscross the Sods making it a paradise for backpacking and exploring.

Dolly Sods has been on my list for a few years and I picked this video to see what the area is like. Yes that was a ramp you picked. Awesome view about 10 minutes from the end! great hike!

Nice! Hiking those trails never get old.You are right about that campsite on Breathed Mtn being a good hammock site. I have camped there a few times. Thank you for sharing your trip.

Great trip and video Michael! It is nice to see places again that it appears I will never see again except through the videos of others. My knees won't hold up to backpacking anymore. Thanks for letting me see these places again. I have traveled all of the trails you used in in this trip! As an avid ramp digger, I can say you were holding the real thing in your video.

Glad you were finally able to get out again. Nice views of those more remote trails. I've been avoiding the Sods due to the crowds but I'll have to check those out next time I get back there. Great photos too. You got the perfect angle on Lions Head.
