I noticed since i started using more castings from my worm farm, ive had a lot less issues with fungus gnats. Looked it up on google and i guess there is a connection, something in the worms saliva that kills them. Good worms! ❤

I use the solo cup method and I plant according to the color of my cups. Usually red-Tomatoes, green - cucumbers, orange - melons, purple-peppers, blue - brassicas. I write the variety on each cup.

If you have issues with germinating spinach, try priming the seeds by soaking them for 24 hrs, drain and dry them for at least a day or 2 prior to when you want to plant.

Kohlrabi, kohlrabi, kohlrabi!! It is soooo good! I’m quadrupling the amount I’m growing this year, because I eat one in one sitting. 😅 It never makes it to a recipe, I just harvest, cut it up, and eat it like apple slices. 😂

Wowww! I can’t wait to try them! I grew some last year but never ate them😢 I ended up putting them in the compost pile. I have some growing now. I’ll try them for sure this year. I wanna know what all the hype is about “kohl-raaaabi”🤣

I spent so much money last year to quick start my garden that this year I intend to pay down that credit card as fast as I can SOOO I am doing EVERYTHING I can to reuse everything to save. So I also save used tags. My son made me some raised beds in my shade room (I live in sunny AZ) so I found every empty pot, big and small, dumped them into a huge tub and added perlite, mushroom compost, some of my homemade compost and a little extra fertilizer. Then dumped it all into the new beds. Some of those pots were years old just sitting around or pots that had plants in last season. I feel living in the low desert that raised bed gardening over container gardening will be better for the plants. Our summer comes early here. Our winter has been so warm that my lettuce has all bolted so fast. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us and teach us! Love it!

All the broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi seeds look the same because they are - they're all the same species (B. oleracea) that has been bred over thousands of years to develop these wildly different cultivars! Broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, cauliflower, and kale can all cross pollinate. I thought this was so fascinating! (Also something to keep in mind if you're trying to save any of your own brassica seeds and plant them near each other!).

Have you tried a shade cloth? If you put all the bolt-prone veg in the same spot, maybe you can use a shade cloth to cover them once it starts getting hot. Commenting early on, not sure if you addressed this later on. Also, I think I watched so many of your videos, I thought i was subscribed 😮. Well I am now. Lol

@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead you're smarter than me. I just start too many plants and keep buying containers and compost to accommodate them. I cringe when i need to thin out by cutting the weaker seedling, so i just pull it and find somewhere to plant them. And I try to hold them until the bitter end😅. Happy gardening!

Virginia zone B although they keep calling it zone 8A. I sow my greens right in the bed at the end of February then thin them out. I use barrels that I got off of FB marketplace cheap, fill them with water, and use them for thermal heat in my little greenhouse. Do you have the space for that?
