Since I live in Florida, and am a serious mango lover and grower of some of the best in the World, I can attest that this mango Ataulfo, will not even crack into the top 50 mangoes there are in a taste test. You need to try a Dot, Orange Sherbet, Lemon Zest, or a host of others, to know what I mean. Gary Zill who developed most of the best out there, lives on the East coast of Fl and I have sat down with him and talked about his mango types while sampling fruit at his farm there. You would be blown away with these fruits if you come down in prime mango season and tried a handful or more of them. You cannot buy them in the store, but you could order some online if you look for the groves that sell them.

I'm an American living in Mexico. Some friends gave me some of these yesterday. Before coming to Mexico I never saw these. I came here to see how to cut and eat them. Glad I did. Yum.

Yes, Ataulfo mangoes are wonderful in the late spring, early summer. They must be from Mexico. Any South American mangoes are a huge disappointment. Equally as good are the summer Kent mangoes from Mexico as well! Then later on, the Keitts. But Kents left to ripen for several days until they 'just give' are exceptional for a store-bought mango. Of course, Florida mango growers scoff at our store-bought mangoes, but most of those wonderful varieties, such as Carrie, Sugarloaf, Lemon Zest, etc. etc, just don't hold up to shipping. Plus the cost of labor and land would price them out of the market. US cannot complete with Mexico in that regard. I wonder though. If I knew a really good variety of mango, picked nearly at perfection, was available, would I pay $3 or $4 for one? I just might!

I have grown and eaten hundreds of Keitts for I had the tree. While a good mango, it is not a great mango that will make your head spin. Carrie is good, but after 20 plus years, I pulled out the tree, root and all and replaced it with a newer, much better and consistent variety. Carrie still has a big following out here and is a good fruit if you can pick it before it goes to garbage which is literally almost in 1 day. We are spoiled out here in Mango land. I have grown over 30 mango types in my yard, and have sent them packing for various reasons. Have a top 5 that are beyond belief great now!

I agree with the person from Florida. I will give them another shot. Those mangoes taste horrible. I never had a good one. I avoid products made with them. Maybe for people who lack experience in mangoes, they are good. I find them slightly bitter or bitter. Not sweet. Unfortunately, mangoes from Mexico are often picked too early. They don't give fruits a chance to develop to their natural sweetness. There are so many other mangoes that I would recommend before this one. I am not a plant specialist, but I specialize in food ...lol especially things I love like mangoes.

I like the sugary taste, I don't like it being sour, and even I don't like that sweetness mixes with sourness like alphoso. Is this variety sweet?

Ataulfo mango is from México, A Mexican farmer crossed until he had a sweet mango.

So sweet dude. I hated mangoes before I tried these. If you let them fully ripen they are nothing but (as the name implies) honey. When they’re greenish, they are sour… but some patience will leave you with my absolute favorite fruit on the planet.
@zachanderson92792 жыл бұрын
They can be sour depending on how long you let them ripen, but a fully ripe honey mango has no sour at all, completely sweet and absolutely delicious. I literally eat 3 of these a day if not more, that’s how good they are.

Those champagne mangoes have the right colour, but they didn't look wrinkled at all. You seemed to enjoy the taste enough, though, eh? No need to wait for wrinkling, then, no?
