Your fruit readiness information is super! (I think if someone is watching me at the grocery store though, they may be entertained and think I’m 🤪, especially when I follow your cantaloupe checks! Love it all and it works!) Thanks!

Your enjoyment was infectious! I appreciate the information: I look forward to enjoying more mangoes because of this video!

you can put them with bananas because bananas release a lot of ethylene gas so it helps ripen them faster

Thanks. I would love to hear about how to handle the harvest? I guess freezing in those trimmed slices would be best, as you can use them long or cut them smaller.

I wrap each mango in plastic wrap and put them in the fridge. They last a few weeks like this. Then I take them out and let them ripen on the counter.

I moved to Florida one year ago and have a mango tree. I didn't get any last summer, the birds and squirrels ruined them. How do you know when to pick them? I was SO looking forward to eating them!
@FoodChainTV7 ай бұрын
Tip: If birds and squirrels are going after your fruit, it's likely they're just thirsty. So, put a bird bath or a baby pool filled with water, or a bucket or something near your fruit trees and they should go drink that water instead of trying to get water from your fruits. Mangos are ready to eat when they turn from green to their ripe color. Different types of mangoes have different ripe colors. So, you have to figure out what kind of mangos you have, and what color they're supposed to be when ripe.

Only imported mangoes are available where I live (NYC). These are dipped in hot water upon import which robs flavor. On a trip to southern Florida I found out how good a fresh mango tastes. Florida mangoes stay in Florida I suppose.

Yes, some mangoes have a longer shelf life than others, and some are more fragile than others and bruise easily. It really depends on the variety. A general rule of thumb that kind of applies is that the higher the sugar content, the shorter the shelf life. So, that plays a role as well.

How do you tell which mangoes are stringy and which are not?
@FoodChainTV2 ай бұрын
You'll have to taste them all! Alphonso and Kent Mangoes tend to have less fiber in them. Also Glenn mangoes, like the ones I grow, don't have much fiber.

Sometimes I will buy a mango and it has the right color and feel, but when I cut into it, there's like brownish spots on the inside, almost like it's rotting from the inside out. How do I avoid those types of mangos?
@FoodChainTVАй бұрын
Well that can sometimes happen when they store them too cold and they freeze or almost freeze. The mango essentially dies, and starts to rot from the inside.

Put it into a bag with apples, that will ripen it faster.
