You can have engines with higher than 12-1 compression, but can't use pump gas and have to use higher octane race gas (around 110 octane compared to premium pump gas which is 93 octane) as octane is the rating for resistance to detonation and you could run low octane gas but you'd fuck up your motor. That's why racers convert cars to run on E85 instead of normal pump gas because E85 is around 110 octane but is hard to find and you need expensive E85 fuel lines, fuel pressure regulators, and carburators/fuel injectors meant specifically for E85.

Guys I know what you can do next. Make z-dampers! They were outlawed in F1 racing but they are pretty simple and I know you guys could make them. It's basically a shock absorber but instead of a pressurized tube it's a giant screw that has a weight threaded onto it. So the faster the shock compresses the faster the screw spins up the heavy weight. This way the car is unrestricted by the device at slow speeds like going over big humps in the road, but at fast speeds like when you are racing it's very hard to spin up the large weight quickly so it acts as stiff resistance. It's such a cool device not only because it works so well and was banned from F1, but also because there is an electrical engineering formula that uses resistors, capacitors, and inductors or something like that and if you apply the same formula to car suspension the z-damper completes the missing 3rd piece from the formula. Because springs are like capacitors, the more energy you put in them the more they store. Shocks are like resistors because they resist change in motion in both directions. And z-dampers are like inductors. They fill a missing piece to a puzzle to make it fully solved. You wouldn't believe how good cars handle with the z-damper along with shocks and springs, there are videos of the F1 car that had it before it was banned and it goes over bumps and turns and the car stays perfectly level and flat.

My guess is part of the problem is the springs allow the crankshaft and piston to get out of phase which fsked the timing. Much stiffer springs might kind of work if the weld problem and horizontal flexing problem could be solved. It would be interesting if it worked because it might have increased the engine's tolerance for fuel detonation so compression could be increased or crappy fuel used. Not that I have any idea of what I'm talking about or anything.

It sounds like a cool and unique idea, I thought about it for a few minutes like maybe with this you could have a straight crankshaft since the springs would just be compressing, ditch the connecting rod bearings or not (if you used a straight crank) . But then I realized springs are really shitty in the long run and will wear out much, much faster then a solid connecting rod would. Also, this is important: Valve float is a condition where the engines rpm is too high for the springs to return properly (or the springs are worn and too weak) on the camshafts intake/exhaust valves. The same thing can happen with the springs on these pistons where they start floating and they probably would from all the power thats happening inside the cylinder. But still a cool idea. I havent watched the video yet so Im not 100% on the floating pistons idea.
