Thank you for teaching and sharing😊. Just one suggestion. Possibly add a note on smoke detector warning. Smudging could set them off if they are not " Temporarily" covered or alarm company notified.

Using a feather and a bowl are not mandatory. You can use your hand or a small dish to catch any ashes that may fall. The most important aspect is your intention and the respect you bring to the practice. Feel free to customize it in a way that works for you. Happy smudging! 🧡

Thanks for your question, pteddy! I end my smudge with placing the bowl outside to let the sage burn out on its own and to allow the prayers from the smudge to rise up to the sky. Also, after smudging, we return the ashes of the sacred medicine that was used to Mother Earth. 😊

Should non-indigenous people be doing this? I'm only about 1/4 mohawk and because of a grandmother who was adopted out as a small child I don't claim this background because I didn't grow up experiencing life as an indigenous person, she herself never talked about it. I make cabbage rolls and perogies because my other grandmother was Ukrainian (and an amazing cook!) and she taught me how, but I do feel uncomfortable with smudging and other First Nations practices, it feels like I'm being a culture tourist or something.....
