The 1st Snakehead Ibever caught was literally in 6" of water. Threw a frog up onto muddy shore and dragged it into water. Fish exploded on it right when it entered water! 14.5 lbs! I fell back in love with fishing again. So glad they are here.

So educational! Here’s a question for you, do you think Carp spawning and rolling around in that same deep cover that snakehead love this time of year drives the snakehead out? If so, where do they go? As you said they’re easily spooked
@KambotroutFishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nick 👍 I’ve rarely caught snakehead in areas where the carp are rolling. When that’s going on, I think they may push out a bit into deeper water around the edges of grass beds or other structure, but it’s not a pattern I fully understand yet.

@@KambotroutFishing I saw on another video that you were looking for places to fish. If you ever feel like coming down to Stafford, I'm 5 minutes from Aquia landing and 5 minutes from Crow's Nest - both excellent snakehead locations (I've been told). We could give you a place to crash, if you were so inclined.

This is priceless educational information from an expert snakehead angler. Thank you so much for posting this seminar Kambo because I was not able to make it in person. I am very conflicted between Berkly X9 and PowerPro Super8Slick V2. Both are excellent choices

Do they target crab like striper do? Will they also go for chicken neck? Last fall something was going nuts in the bush eating chicken necks very fast. Didn't seem to be cats
@KambotroutFishing2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they key-in on crabs intentionally, but they’ll def eat them once the crab has molted. For Chicken necks, I’m not sure. I’ve had turtles, eels, and catfish go after chicken necks, but haven’t seen a snakehead do it yet. Wouldn’t put it past em though. At the end of the day, chicken necks are just good protein.

Thanks for putting this info out there. Somewhat of a beginner so I'm learning and planning to do to Blackwater this weekend. Is there an in-depth video like this for fall snakehead fishing? What color of the X5/X9 do you use when snakehead fishing?

You ever catch snakeheads on Rapala jerk baits
@KambotroutFishing2 жыл бұрын
I don’t often use them, but yes. In deeper water I’ll use them, but I tend to move away from treble hooks as the grass grows up throughout the year. In rocky streams and rivers though, they should work pretty well year around.

Just found out about Snakeheads literally a day or so ago. It was my understanding that this is an extremely invasive, exceptionally prolific, ambushing species with no natural predators. As such it is also my understanding that the standard protocol is to kill any that are caught immediately and freeze them. It appeared that you were following a catch and release protocol. I am curious as to why. I may have been mistaken and am not judging your actions if this is the case just curious. New to fishing and trying to learn. Thanks in advance for any information and thanks for sharing.
@sonoman00ify8 ай бұрын
I release plenty. Pretty sure they can't make a law to kill something. Snakeheads aren't thinning other fish out. They actually add food fir other species. Their offspring are eaten, and they have multiple spawns per year. I only keep them if I'm gonna eat them or give to friends.
