Where is the location exactly, appreciate the response
@Lex-ov5zk4 жыл бұрын
@@menelek16bc Won't be able to access it, the show got special permission from the Mississauga Golf & Country Club to fish this part of the Credit River. It's both good and bad i guess...since the part of the river that flows through the course is probably the best stretch of the Credit (freshwater ecosystem wise) given how natural and practically untouched it is. But we'll never be able to fish it unless we're willing to cough up ~ $50K in membership and nominated by a current member of the club haha!

^^^ referring to the area with the two bridges and golf course. The public access area looks like Erindale Park to me

Cany you access the stretch of river in the golf course if you wade down from erindale and stay in the river/or below the high water mark?

Sort of like the effects in deep sea upwelling when warm water passes by and or fills the area. (hydrocushion) Yeah, if you slow down and listen you can learn a bunch.

I generally use a 9-12 foot leader depending on the clarity of the water and depth.

i would not, too many phosphates in the water from peoples lawns
@benjimolina6959 Жыл бұрын
@@newflyfisher There is misinformation in your statement about phosphate/phosphorus leaching from home lawns. Most fertilizers applied are now P free in Ontario and even more so in the United States. Phosphorus availability is dependent on the pH of the soil and the presence of positively charged nutrients. Cations such as iron, aluminum, manganese, magnesium, and calcium can bind to P, rendering it unavailable. This occurs most frequently in situations where the soil pH is outside the optimal range of 6.0 to 7.0. In acidic conditions, the H2PO4- is more susceptible to fixation with iron, aluminum, and manganese. In high pH situations (southern Ontario), phosphorus is unavailable due to insoluble complexes created by formation of calcium and magnesium phosphates. The best way to improve phosphorus availability is through pH optimization. The same reasons that make P unavailable for plant uptake keep P from leaching through the soil profile into groundwater reserves. Phosphates (P combined with oxygen) are quickly removed from the soil solution in the soil. Consequently, P does not pose a threat to groundwater reserves from leaching. In established turfgrass areas, the runoff potential is quite low due to the dense nature of turfgrass and its fibrous root system. Off-site transport of P tends to be associated with sediment erosion from newly established areas and runoff from hard surfaces. Phosphorus can be carried in an eroded soil (silt and clay primarily) and organic matter sediments. Phosphorus also may be carried by wind erosion and later deposited into lakes. Living plants such as trees, shrubs, and turf areas around lakes can help stabilize the soil against wind and water erosion. In addition, they act as vegetative buffers to help removethese fine soil particles from the air, trapping both the soil particles and any associated nutrients. To prevent offsite transport of P, avoid applying fertilizer to frozen soils, paved surfaces, and when heavy rainfall is expected. To prevent runoff loss, water all P fertilizers into the soil

So the credit river steelhead salmon aren’t saltwater bearing steelhead salmon but still the species as steelhead in saltwater vs rainbow trout which the steelhead in freshwater is a sub species of rainbow trout
@thehorror71354 жыл бұрын
There aren't any steelhead in the Credit River.Those are migrating Rainbow Trout. A steelhead is a trout that migrates from sea water to a fresh water river to spawn.
@jimsomerville3924 Жыл бұрын
That's anadromous fish behavior, not the definition of steelhead, which I think is loose to begin with.
@Winters1864 жыл бұрын
The credit river has Rainbow trout from a fresh water lake. Steel head are from the Sea and migrate in into a fresh water river. Please get your facts stright .
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj3 жыл бұрын
steelhead is just a nickname, not a proper term for a different species... resident fish give birth to sea runs and vice versa. These fish share the identical genes.. They only have different life histories, Lake ontario is GREAT lake, it 100's of miles, has its own tides,thousands of shipwrecks, and is connected to the sea. Only 100+ years ago there was seals and one of the biggest atlantic salmon populations on earth there..... The fish do massive migrations,get the same size and get the same ''steel'' camo... Lets be honest. The salt isn't what makes them special, its the predators in the sea. Sharks whales etc make the pacific steelhead physically stronger. That and the fish being native. Having 10 000's of years of generations is a special thing
@thehorror71353 жыл бұрын
How could these trout be called Steelhead if they don't come from the sea. They come from Lake Ontario, which is fresh water. Even your own definition at the beginning of the video contradicts this.
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj3 жыл бұрын
steelhead and rainbow trout are the same thing. They give birth to eachother all the time... Its just a nickname to say hey this fish migrated Lake ontario is connected to the sea, it used to have its own seal population +some of the biggest fully native altantic salmon runs in the world. (only a century plus).. Its 100's of miles of open of water (theres over 25 000 shipwrecks in the great lakes) and has its own tide...... yes the fish never go to the sea , but they have the same genes, live in massive open water. Reach the same weights ( a 27 pounder was caught this year in open water) and do massive migrations.. They aren't like resident trout and the main difference is they don't face predators.... West coast people who think lake ontario is like a regular are eager to look down on them,,,, but i doubt they truly understand what lake ontario actually is (basically a inland sea) and i doubt they would look down on the wild atlantic salmon in the same way,

It’s not a steelhead it’s a migratory rainbow trout

Connor Tinline so what are salmon called that have been introduced from the PACNW into the Great Lakes? I’d assume you have a special designation for them as well right?
