“Best to practice your pickup-lay down on a river when the water is flowing down stream”? Great video

At around 10 minutes, just as he enters the “casting lab”, he’s talking about translation and rotation during the cast while the guy in the background is casting with 100% (maybe 97%) rotation of his wrist and nearly no translation. Quoting “Hugh”, “There are no rules in fly fishing”

DWR should be avoided at all cost. They are from "forever chemicals" and we do not want to put more of it into our environment. Thank you.

I don't think many trout can survive in this river. They have stocked more than 20,000 trout every year for more than 30 years already, but it is still very hard to catch a decent size one. A good time to fish there is after opener they just released the stocking trout. Those little fish are eagerly eating dry fly. Just bring a 2wt or 3wt fly rod with couple dry fly you will have a lot of fun. Don't expect to catch a big one unless you want to bet your luck.

The original supplier was Reelflies.ca but they don't sell them anymore. However, Rainys have these: rainysflies.com/products/rainys-tube-popper?_pos=17&_sid=2812107b6&_ss=r and also this musky fly: www.theflyfishers.com/P/2369/BalloksNorthwoodsNinja

HAHAH "Catching trout.... is fun." That blooper killed me for some reason. Love the video and the bloopers. Glad you all don't take yourselves too seriously. Getting out to the beautiful views and enjoying yourself is the best part. Catching a fish is incidental at that point.

Sunday 4/28/2024 - Michigan trout opener this coming weekend (Saturday). My buddy is working so we delayed it a week. 25+ years. Same guys. Same jokes. We fish the small streams. If we catch 2 or 3 8-inchers (or better), it's a good weekend. But, several years ago, at another stream, on the trout closer, we slayed the brookies (a catch of about a dozen 10-12" brookies amongst three of us). One of these years (before I die), I want to hit N. Ontario or Newfoundland & Labrador. Great video. Thank you. sw

I watched a video of The New Fly Fisher at the Palisade Lodge in Victor Idaho but I can't find that video. The guide explained the new system of trout catch and release to get the native cutthroats back. A thing was put in the hybrid trout nose and if you caught one of those they would mail you a check. There was no limit on hybrid, browns or rainbows. Great video but when I went back to the KZbin link it was a different video. I hope this rings a bell.

People that care for the health of native waters DON'T dump invasive species in them. That's literally the opposite of conservation.

Thank you for saying the obvious, and Dick Vincent proved when you really care for the water you don’t stock at all, you let the native species be.

Hi, it was so nice to see that someone took the trouble to mow the grass on the bank of the river and get rid of all the bushes behind you. I learned this casting technique by placing a bucket on the Army parade ground and casting from the edge into the bucket. The way to do it in most rivers is to hold three or five loops in your left hand and cast with your right hand whilst standing in the river waist deep. Get the picture? Cheers mate. Harera

Barbless is an absolute winner in my book. You will hook yourself at some point, no matter the skill level! Besides, the survival rate for catch and release is better, when combined with best practices of fish handeling, or rather, the lack of handeling. Tight lines! :)

I would like to say to everyone who say those are not steelhead, I would say when steelhead were implanted in grate lakes years ago at what point did they cease to be steelhead and pacific salmon cease to be salmon just because they have introduced into the great lakes?
