It's that time of year when your gear needs to be flexible, adaptable and, ideally, not weigh too much.
This is what is in my pack this season, tried and tested and it's not going to slow you down as it weighs in at 22 pounds.

Personally I wouldn't stick my first aid kit in a secret zip pocket under my bergan hood. Who is going to know where that is? A rule I was told was always use the casualties first aid kit as you might need yours at a point very soon. Therefore first aid kit clearly marked on an outer pouch with a cross or crescent; whatever your persuasion. Anyone worth their salt on Jackdaw would have told you that (ie. Use the casualties field dressing not your own)

I safety pin a double sized SOL Mylar sheet to the poncho liner, because it stops convection from stealing my heat away, and reduces conduction with outside temps, and either cold or heat via radiation away from me as well, when used as a quilt or cocoon for the hammock. Shiny side is always facing out. And it can be used for over head shade or to keep night time dampness away, and can also act as a heat reflector behind you. For cool temps, the Mylar can be on the inside of the poncho liner, but for Cold Temps below 40F I place liner next to me with the Mylar side as the outer layer. I stick some clear packaging tape to the Mylar before pinning it to the poncho liner. SOL Mylar sheet is quiet and tougher than the cheap stuff.. It will add about 3 or 4 oz and 20 degrees of warmth to your kit. I don’t pack a bivy, just a large 55 gallon drum liner bag with my poncho. And I also bring a light down jacket, watch cap, and 2 lb duck down sleeping bag to be used as a top quilt down to the 30F. For Colder temps I bring a wiggys 20F sleeping bag. And I either bring leather moccasin slippers to sleep in or down booties depending on temps to keep my feet warm. My 2 outer layers will consist of a BDU or flannel shirt, and either a fleece or wool Jacket.

Like your teeshirt, mate. That's a sweet logo / design. Anyhoow, how about seeing if you can get them on antibacterial baselayers.

I would like to suggest that you research the Grayl Geopress water filtration system. I find it the best water treatment system available, at least right now.

Spot on! Have been using it for almost four years now. Initial price and replacement cartridges are a bit pricey but, you can't fault its function! Rgds Si

Don't worry Neil, I'm 100% sure you could knock one up in your garden shed from Ray Mears old underwear and a pair of Lofty's old socks! Long live Asparagus with Orange Au jus!

Questions Neil. Having a double-layer hammock is the "sleeve" you use for your mat at an angle; so that you sleep head left-feet right(or visa versa) for a flat lay? Where can I buy the survival scarf please? I have modified my tarp by tying shock cord loops to the existing loops to help excessive wear and tear; plus it helps keep the guylines taut which in turn keeps the tarp taut. I now place my sleeping mat inside my bivvy bag with my sleeping bag, as I kept sliding off the mat if I slept with it outside!
