Thanks for the review Neil but here are my thoughts : Yes, the weight will be less, but sil nylon will offer much less resistance to thorns and campfires and is noisier than a Dutch or US army poncho. The white logo on the sil nylon doesn't help with stealth camping and 40-45£ (50-56 $/48-54 €) isn't for everyone these days. I'll stick with my old trusted army poncho. ATB!

That first 600g hatchet is what I'm considering getting for chopping up logs in to smaller pieces pallet slats for kindling to get fires going, I like the idea of the wooden handle. I'm trying to de ide between that and the Fiskars Norden N7. I'm sure I couldn't really go wrong either way but is there anything else that sort of size you'd recommend? Thanks for the informative video, cheers

Just a very quick question, do you think taking a Sharpie to the white branding would damage the poncho?
@kokopelau69546 сағат бұрын
I think I will stay with my u s military poncho. Stronger and it fits my woobie for a sleep system. Also works great as a shelter. U.S.$44.99.

Nice one Neil! I’m looking for a compact light shelter to fit in my Helikon essential kit bag- “emergency/get home/edc bag” This has made it onto the shortlist. Looks certainly spacious enough for one person. We consider what we carry as we get older because we are wiser… hopefully 😜 Bushcraft for beginners sounds great! Encouraging for newbies. Cheers mate 👍🏻

We would slide off the roof of the house in the winter using plastic contractor bags. Didnt keep us warm but it kept us dry in the snow.

This looks just the job for me! What size did you get? Bit worried about it trailing on the ground but looks wide enough to do the job for me🙂 My current sea to summit one is just not wide enough. Belt looks good too. How did they get it so light??
@simonwillis690215 сағат бұрын
Hello Neil, as always a great review. The poncho is quite Diddy, just large enough to get the job done, certainly a better idea having sewn loops vs eyelets. Liked the selection of shelters you displayed giving a good view of what is possible. Merry Christmas to all at Green craft towers!

I could certainly have made good use of this when I walked the Camino de Santiago earlier this year. Having a waterproof that was both light and effective , and covered my rucksack would have been a god send. I shall be looking to acquire one of these.

Thanks a lot for testing and the review. You made a good review i use the Dutch poncho's as well, i will look into buying one of these as it sure is small and light! Have a good Christmas and all the best for you and yours for the new year coming

Thanks for the review! The whole knife seems to be something loke a Skookum Light. I hope the great guys over at BPS one day decide to produce an affordable thorough Skookum clone.

I have one in the mail it might arrive tomorrow. First time I saw it I knew it was going to be a great knife but unfortunately it was only selling on Amazon USA and I'm in Canada. Recently it became available, I ordered one right away and a few days later it was out of stock. It's sold like hotcakes. I was never a big fan of Mora knives simply because of all the plastic. But when I came across BPS knives I was impressed by the quality style and price.

I thought as responsible wild campers or bushcrafters the last thing anyone would want to do is put the residue from balloons into the earth, not to mention potentially breathing in the toxic fumes from them.

Just fyi the vaseline will degrade the rubber balloons over time so if you're gonna make these for the long term emergency situation it's best to use the fingers of a nylon glove 👌

A bit of fun I suppose, but I'd rather just carry some barbecue fire lighters and a bic. The ones I use are smaller than what's shown here and weigh less, but burn just as hot/long. They're also much safer as they can't accidentally ignite, whereas the ones you made could. Safety first!

I made a few of these, they work great. I made mine just a little different: I did not cut the bottom off I just made a few holes around the bottom. I used craft felt I was using at home instead of insulation cause I don't have that.. Whoever came up with this is a genius. I can take this to the park to make water for coffee: we are not allowed to pick sticks up from the ground so they can't complain. I normally use my Firebox it is just a bit more sophisticated. :) Thanks for sharing I am always open to seeing how others make things.

Do the matches draw moisture over time and become too damp to work? Interesting to find out.
@Mat-kr1nf7 күн бұрын
If you used non-safety matches, the type that ignite on sandpaper, you could paint the match heads with nail polish.🤔
@jasonprairie99687 күн бұрын
Most all matches, with the exception of "life boat" /storm matches, will and do draw moisture over time if not waterproofed. Don't forget the strikers as well.
