Gorse specifically is the single most important plant for reforesting, bioremediating our fucked stripped eroded hillountry. Use the marginal stuff to provide innumerable ecological and thus economic benifits. Hard to farm steep stuff anyway. Need proof. Hugh Wilson banks peninsula.mas a farmer you know the importance of pollination. Best bee nutrition on the country. Fuck all quality pollen in most kiwi "weeds" some intelligent council's up north are recognising it, and protecting gorse blocks. Read a few books and get up to date on a top legume that'll grow places bugger all else can.

It's this type of ignorance that's perpetuated by cockies fathers and mothers everywhere, backed up by sales reps selling herbicides, and also the f.witts at our agg. Universities that claim there's only NPK and water and sun needed to farm. Disgraceful. Part of why we have the "third worst degraded soils in the developed world". -U.N. FAO. Not that un can be trusted much. After graduating one of said universities by a bees dick. After walking out on the professor who told me I wasn't allowed to ask (intelligent) questions. Fucking shameful. Regenerative agg is the only way forwards. The opposite of the negligent, cruel malpractice intensified farming that's developed in most of the flattish bit of NZ over the last 20 years.

Josh, you have often (as in this video) criticised DOC's use of 1080, based on your experience. And yet DOC presumably has their own rationale for using 1080. How about making a video sometime where you get together with DOC people, and talk about this issue. I'd like to see DOC's side of this issue.
@Motumatai34 жыл бұрын
To understand DoC's stance you have to go way back to their inception. In 1987. Initially they were called The Dept of Conservation and Recreation. For all of about 2 weeks. That's when the ideologically driven bureaucrats went spare and had the Recreation bit dropped. Those types live in a fantasy land of Native or Nothing, conveniently forgetting when it suits them that they live in a very comfortable world BECAUSE of a whole bunch of non native stuff. Our forefathers were wise enough to import a variety of game animals to ensure EQUALITY for the common man. Something missing in the Old Land. Yes they stuffed up in a couple of areas. But I'll forgive them. If only the Bloody Govt would relent and allow valuable food types like rabbit and hare to be sold. Only stopped back in the 1950's cause of a ruckas kicked up by farming types wanting top $ for their permitted farmed animals.

Doc signed a 50 year contract with the supplier of 1080 for a specific weight per year They probably would never of signed it if they had actually tested it first They could spend the money on lawyers but it's not in their budget to do so So here we are, stuck with them using a poison that was untested when the supply contract was signed That's the real reason why they continue to ignore the damage the 1080 does I've meet several doc workers that are against it, but no matter how much they say it will never change

Yup. And leaves it open for pest species to move right in. Gotta be a better way

1080 is used in high pest areas. Pests kill our birds. So it stands to reason that bird life is lower where 1080 is used, as these are the high pest areas.
@joshjameskiwibushman4 жыл бұрын
drumonin I’ve been rafting the landsborough river for over 20 years and hunting the tops in the catchment . The bird life was flourishing up there until the aerial use of 1080 started. This in turn caused rat plagues - now there is very little birdlife remaining in this area. Yet DOC are claiming the catchment as one of their success stories. I have witnessed the decline of birdlife in this catchment and many others over the years that have Been treated with 1080. Yet in other areas that have never seen a lick of 1080 such as the majority of private land around kaikoura - the birdlife is astounding. I believe unless 1080 is applied yearly, the rats population bounces back more stronger than before (this is fact ) and the birdlife continues to decline.
@tjdawson89423 жыл бұрын
@@joshjameskiwibushman I'm just still trying to understand what the DOC has to gain from this "conspiracy", why would they want all their hard work, to not work ? like what do governments have to gain from mandatory vaccinations .
@joshjameskiwibushman3 жыл бұрын
@@tjdawson8942 1080 only works if it is used consecutive years in a row. It causes rat numbers to explode, if it is used sporadically, the rat numbers build to higher levels than pre 1080 and the birdlife dwindles. This is a proven fact. DOC have good intentions but the New Zealand Backcountry is too extensive to aerial poison every year. There in lies the problem
