Guess the thing is with shooting a young bull is that every year older he gets is more and more chances to breed. When compared to fisheries, we are encouraged to put the big breeders back if possible (salt water at least, i have very little exposure to fresh so i'll leave that alone) From what i hear, its more important to go easy on the Nannies as they have a bigger impact on the overall population, which kinda makes a young bull the perfect freezer filler.

Yes, the meat got wasted. We can only carry so much in the helicopter, the meat from the bulls tastes bad, it's risky to traverse terrain like that with heavy loads, a variety of factors... We are not up there meat hunting

The old bull theory is protecting the sport its allowing more bigger bulls for more shooters later on in years to come thats what I take from it anyway correct me if im wrong
@joshjameskiwibushman3 жыл бұрын
So what above the nannies that give birth to a bull that will grow big, or a young bull? Or a kid? All these animals could produce a big bull. Do we not shoot any animals so that someone in the future can shoot one? And what if we do shoot a big bull, someone else could have shot it. Seems like a bit of a oxy moron to me
@BobJones200013 жыл бұрын
First way to get bigger animals is to have less of them, personally I almost exclusively shoot young animals, they taste better. I have taken one trophy, it is a strange thing to me that I shot this bull because my trip was running down and I couldn't get to the nanny group. At 13 inch many would love it but it still hangs on the wall simply as a reminder to me of that day and to push harder to apply myself to bring home the best meat rather than an older animal. We all hunt for different reasons, but in the end it is the most human thing you can do besides fight with the guy that looks different to you
@Vulvaetix3 жыл бұрын
@@BobJones20001 Awesome mindset man!! Hunting should primarily done for the meat, a trophy is nice of course - but I think it shouldn’t be the main objective. Hunting is not a sport, at least not here in Austria, Europe. (Home of them Chamois..)

Thanks so much for stopping by. Your positive comments have encouraged us to go and find some more ice goats so we can also teach them some lessons. It's a learning curve ye old life. Charlies ( Ugly ) Angels On the issue of the age of a bull from my learning from an old boy years ago from an indigenous race of people who hunted with spears, it went like this. The Biggest Boy is usually the King and has had a great life with many Females and Children to his history. It is his place to protect his kind and there will always be another to take his place. He will often stand and face his fate with that instinctive knowledge and pride. A swift death is then required out of respect for that knowingness. Leave the Women and Children alone. That was the Law I was taught in Hunting.
