I know you’re going to resist this advice but do yourself a favor a stop implementing the kitchen sink style food plot. The forages you have mixed don’t provide diversity they just compete against each other. Pick a forage and stick with it. If you want diversity split your plots in half with a different seed on each side.

Rich, thanks for the input. I view food plots as what they are, a supplement to proper habitat management. Food plots should not be the primary source of food. We promote natural food sources across the property as a whole. Also, on our properties we promote planting diverse plantings of warm season and cool season plantings on separate plots across the acreage. The varieties in this mix complement each other perfectly. The maturity dates of the clovers work together to provide food longer into the growing season than other typical cool season plantings. Of course there are plenty of other plantings and designs that work well, and may work better for a particular property. This is just a demonstration of one option that works very well for keeping forage in a cool season plot longer into the growing season.

@@buckhavenlandsolutions539 I expected you would respond that way. Unfortunately people have been misled by the big seed companies. If you’re happy then go for it. I like to get the most out of my forages I plant. People have been influenced by the unscrupulous hunting industry with advertisement and so called hunting programming . Guys in high pressure states think hunting out of a box blind on a food plot is the way to go. Nothing will change their mind because their favorite pro staffer does it. Food plots are no different. Everyone thinks soybeans are king and the big seed companies marketing garbage blends are the way to go. It is what it is guess.
